The long-overdue King of Fighters: Orochi Saga may finally have a release date: 10/14/08. It's supposed to contain KOF '94-98 as well as some bonus features.
First of all, awesome. I originally thought this would only contain KOF '95-97, and that the only way to get '94 would be to buy SNK Arcade Classics (which I do own, but it sucks for those that don't want to buy that). But nope, it appears to have '94, as well as '98. And because of that, this is the most games on a SNK fighting game compilation yet.
Let's just cross our fingers that the release date holds. P.S.: No word yet on a Samurai Shodown Anthology release date, though.

If life is not fair all you have to do is MAKE IT fair

Both of those games are dream matches. They're going to be out of place in any theme based collection.
Separation of the Elements is an illusion.

What's more, KOF '94 already appears on the SNK Arcade Classics Collection. My understanding is that the "Orochi Saga" begins with KOF '95.
Cartoons aren't "just for kids"...but they're not just for adults either. They're for everyone.
I don't think the SNK collections are going to negate the KoF releases, since obviously the Metal Slug collection had titles released on the SNK Arcade collection.
I don't think it's an error; where else are they going to put them? The main event is the Orochi Saga, and the others are extras.
Bad news. Looks like the game has been delayed until 11/25/08: http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Prod...oduct_id=72595 ; http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/data/943399.html .

*******it.
Apparently that was an error, because I got a copy tonight at Gamestop.
And it DOES contain KOF '94-98, much to my delight. The downside? In-game loading times, a la Metal Slug Anthology. Aggghhh. I wish the team behind some of the previous SNK compilations did this one, because then we wouldn't have this.
Otherwise the games seem to be arcade perfect, with none of the choppiness present in some of the games on SNK Arcade Classics.

Between stages. It's not nearly as painful as the loading times for PS1 KOF '95, but still pretty pointless, especially given the PS2's capabilities. Like I said, if you've played Metal Slug Anthology, it's the same kind of thing (luckily it doesn't stop to load if you move the cursor to a different character on the character select screen like on MSA... that would be REALLY bad, yeesh).

I got it today. It was pretty sweet, though KOF '95 is a b**** of a play; I got knocked out after only winning one battle, with difficulty at 1. '98 is bliss, though, as I get to play the Sports team with Terry instead of the bearded guy! Yay!
Reports are in that this collection ISN'T a translation of the Japanese KoF Orochi Saga collection released a couple of years back. Up until all of the SNK fighting game collections (Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, World Heroes) released here in the U.S were simply translated from the original Japanese releases; this time however a new collection with a different interface and options along with (possibly) different-quality emulations of the games was made for the U.S. From what I've heard there's no option to play with arranged soundtracks (WTF), no color edit and some glitches in the ports along with the aforementioned loading times (which never occured in the SNK compilations developed in Japan, aside from picking a game that is).
I'm assuming that this second attempt at a KOF Orochi Saga collection was handled by the same people who developed "Metal Slug Anthology" and "SNK Arcade Classics Volume 1", and we all know how flawed the emulations on those were.
