    Like This Thread!

    Full Version

    Spoiler:

    Spoiler:
    Synopsis
The dark knight Cecil, stripped of his command of the Red Wings, set out for the distant Valley of Mist. Together with Kain, commander of the Dragoons, he would pursue a faceless quarry―and a chance for redemption. The advent of the airship had marked the realization of mankind's most ancient dream. But man is a creature seldom sated, and he was quick to dream anew. With the unparalleled might of the Red Wings, Baron's military soon reigned supreme. Why, then, does its king now seek the Crystals? And why have fearsome monsters suddenly begun to overrun the once calm land? If the Crystals know, they share no answers―only their pure and silent light.

    Like with FFIII. FFIV will have the following;
    • Full 3D Exploration
    • Top Screen: Map + Location of Treasure Chests. Screens suggest that the treasure chests note that if the item is a weapon or general item [support, healing item etc...]
    • Half of the game contains cinematic scenes as well
Hover, unlike FFIII DS. FFIV will contain full voice actors. Actors who have did animes in the past.

    Release Date
    July 22nd

Or the SNES version that we got.

Im accually looking forward to playing this, because i played the game on rom long time ago, and i would like to finish up what i started. I got to the part where Cecil turns from the dark knight to the white knight. I think i accomplished that in a few hours or so...

To those that don't have the remake yet...I must warn you....they've stepped up the difficulty. Heck, even random encounters will give you a hard time. Even some bosses that didn't give you trouble will, too

Heh, Cid's mouth looks like it's painted onto his beard in the scene where he's yelling at Kain.

Other than that, it looks pretty awesome. I probably won't be holding out very long before I pick this game up. This always was one of my favorite FF games.

I agree with Ryusuke. First off, mobs hit harder, so watch your character's HP. ESP with your casters, even with Rydia in the back row, she was getting whooped until I leveled her up. Remember those little Goblins that were just fodder? Yeah, they hit pretty hard now. But I don't find the bosses that much harder. I think that's because of my playing style I heal the best I can before the boss fight, and just go all out on them.

Thankfully, exp. is good, and leveling isn't that time consuming. At least for NOW. I'm currently in Damcyan area, about to hit the Antlion's cave.

Also, money is harder to come by. Mobs don't drop a lot of money at ALL. So getting items and gear you need might require some grinding for money. I just went through a couple of caves to get to Damcyan, so I've got a good little nestegg.

Other than that, I really adore this remake. It reminds me a lot of FFIX, just in the way of the look of the game, or FFIII, since it seems to use the same game engine. A lot of characters have redone skills that make them more useful. For example, Edward's Birdsong albilty is WORTH using!

The music is note-for-note perfect, and is better than ever. Seeing what your lead character is thinking is a GREAT touch, and yes, you can swap out the lead character on the fly by pressing Y, and then seeing what their thoughts are.

The story is the same, with a redone script, and some REALLY good voice acting for the cut scenes.

It's almost like playing a whole new game.

I recomend this remake for the old school Final Fantasy fans looking for a new experince with that nostalgia bomb feel, kind of like what FFIX had. I also recomend it for new school Final Fantasy fans who want to see the roots of the series.

I don't know, I'm glad they put so much effort into the remake but it sounds like a chore if you have to grind to break even in a fight. I found the freaking GBA port to be fairly challenging, moreso than FF VI. I'm a bit on the fence for this one, not sure if I should commit.

Out of curiosity, how're the dungeons in this game? Do you need to be VERY careful when entering or else you'll find yourself in the middle of a dugeon with 2 potions, 2 MP, 12 HP, and a dead party? (Like in Final Fantasy 1 and Dragon Warrior games)

I really like it when dungeons feel more like desperate survival struggle than a write-off, but every Final Fantasy after 6 toned down the difficulty to the point of near unplayability for me, including some of the remakes. (I'm looking at you, Dawn of Souls)

The answer to that is yes, IF you are underleveled. I went into the Underground Waterway that leads to Damcyan Castle and got rocked by my first encounter which was 3 Tiny Mages and a Sahagin. The Tiny Mages cast Fire, Thunder, and Blizzard like CRAZY, and killed Rydia, and because of money issues, I had TWO Phoenix Downs. Since I had saved just outside of the cave, I reset the game, and did some money grinding, which got me levels, and now I don't have much problem at all. The dungeons are just like the old version's map-wise, but now with tougher mobs.

So, you WILL have to be careful, and heal often, but it won't be a brutal beat-down unless you are just REALLY rushing through the game.

    Also...

As long as you don't rush, and fight nearly every encounter, grinding shouldn't be THAT much of an issue. After doing the Underground Waterway, and The Antlion's Cave, I've got a good 7K of gold.
