"Spider-Man: Web of Shadows" News Thread

    Like This Thread!
    From Gamervision:

Fans of Activision’s Spider-man video games will soon have something else to be happy about. Activision has just announced the next game based on everyone’s favorite comic web-slinger, which will be called Spider-man: Web of Shadows. This shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise, given that Activision hinted at a new Spider-man game earlier this year, but this is the first information we have received about it.

Not much else is known about Web of Shadows at this time, but we will be following this game as it develops. Gamervision has also been informed that Activision will be showing off a “Marvel-based video game” at this weekend’s New York Comic Con, so perhaps it will be this mysterious new Spider-man game. We will be talking to Activision at Comic Con and taking a look at the game, so stay tuned to Gamervision for more info.
    Looking forward to it!

    Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

Didn't know they were making a new Spidey game.
    Trailer

    Info.

Sorry, Tobey - Spider-Man: Web of Shadows isn't based on the film franchise, it's based on the web-slinging comic book legend himself, giving the developers at Shaba and Treyarch a great deal of leeway in crafting an entirely new plot. In a nutshell, New York has been invaded by something very bad, resulting in a cataclysmic event that has rocked city leaders to the point of declaring martial law. Other heroes are gathering uptown to protect civilians, while villains are grouping downtown to repel the aggressors. And Spidey? He has to sort it all out, of course.
From the trailer they look like symbiotes or something like that.

Its about time we got another Spidey game that isn't based on the movie and Ultimate universes.

I saw the trailer and it looked good. It'll be nice to have a game based on the comics this time around. I just hope that the more realistic web swinging from Spider-Man 2 is brought back rather than from the 3rd one.

Sounds like they're branching out a bit too - apprantly you met up with both heroes and villains from the Marvel universe.

I relish any oppertunity to whoop ass as Spidey, hell, I really enjoyed the Spider-Man 3 game, which everyone else seemed to hate.

Let's have some A list villains this time please!

This is a Spider-Man Reign game!

I loved Spider-Man 3 in every aspect. I have both the GBA version and the PC version. My brother has the PS2 version which I enjoyed a lot.

Is this new game going to be a sequel to "Spider-Man2: Enter Electro"? Or is it a separate game?

I'll have to agree with that

comics made Spidey who he is and it's time to go back to those roots!

Well honestly I'm hoping we get a really awesome game out of The Spectacular Spider-Man and not one that was just phoned in but I suppose Ultimate Spider-Man is close enough to that for now.

But this game... This is going to be epic. I can't wait to see what the developers can do with this much freedom.

I thoroughly enjoyed Spider-Man for the N64/PSX/DC. Now they can do a lot more with a comic based Spider-Man than they could back then. So this has the potential to be awesome.

It's been rumoured that there's going to be a presentation about this game at New York Comic-Con, which may divuldge more information.

I hope we get alternate costume like the original Playstation Spider-Man game had. Symbiote and Ben Reily suits please!

10 days and the countdown continues
    http://www.seizecontrol.com/

    At least for the US

    EDITED NOTES:
..10 Activision Spider-Man games, 11 Activision games involving Spider-Man since the start of the millennium
    ..What is that black stuff?
..Daily Bugle & not the DB. I wonder if Peter is married in this game!!
..Since this game is comic based; if in the costume select screen there is a symbiote selection it won't make Spider-Man stronger & faster, he'll only have infinite webbing

According Kotaku the game gonna have some of Spidey villains that have never appear in a game before. The only ones I can think of that haven't appear in game are the Jackal, Kaine, Spidercide, Gaunt, Judas Traveller and Tarantula.

    Give me an "M"...
    Give me an "O"...
Give me the whole word at once...

I wanna see J.M.S's Morlun in this game, he's one of my favorite Spider-Man villains. Who agrees with me? Who wants Morlun as well?

Morlun would be AWESOME to have in this game! I absolutely loved the "Coming Home" storyline.

I'm guessing this new spidey game will be free roam like the other ones, so the gameplay functionality is really what's worrying me right now. Spider-Man 3 had it right in terms of getting the scope of the city right (making the city look alive through number of cars, people, lights, crimes, etc), however, I feel that the realistic swing system in Spider-Man 2 is still the best. Both Ultimate Spidey and SM3 screwed it up by making it much simpler for those that complained about not getting the controls right. It was a very accomplishing feeling to get swinging down right in SM2, and I really preferred the jump charge rather than the double jump, which makes no sense at all.

The Spider-Man game for the original Playstation is probably my favorite Spider-Man game. Even the sequel Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro was a good game. Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage for the SNES is a close second for my favorite games. This new one lreally ooks interesting I have to admit.

I did see Ultimate Spider-Man for Gamecube for $20 and I'm on the fence about picking it up.

Tinkerer comes to mind, but nobody really cares about him.

They could be talking about Hydroman, too. He only had one appearance in a video game, and it was pretty forgettable.

It appears to me you prefer comic based games over movie based ones in the case of Spider-Man.

I have played the movie-based games, too. I liked Spider-Man, thought Spider-Man 2 was better and found Spider-Man 3 to be the worst. But then again I have played a lot of the Spider-Man games beginning with the Sega Genesis and up to the Wii-version of Spider-Man 3.
