Whoa that was unexpected. I wonder if Luke will appear too.

Wow; I'm guessing Lucas Arts is giving an o.k. on this to promote The Force Unleashed.

Well if they're going to have Star Wars character who wants them to go EU and have Jedi Master Katarn?

Well I guess if they include the main character from The Force Unleashed (which is suspect they most likely will) that counts as EU.

Heck lets go nuts with the cross overs: a Big Daddy and the Minute Man.
"Burning Man"? I think you mean "Burning Urethra" -- that place is a massive colony of venereal diseases being nurtured by their human servants. -zombie

I don't know if I should throw a brick at Namco or revel in such awesomeness.

And I thought Masters of Teräs Käsi was the only time Star Wars & fighting games would ever be made as one.

To ShadowGUN: Uh, if it's Darth Vader AND Yoda guest starring, Shouldn't it just be "The Force Still Burns In Soulcalibur IV"? Since you know Yoda's defintley not part of the Dark Side and it makes the joke funnier (since it's just replaces one word then a whole phrase). I'm just being technical just to let you know but it's just something I noticed.

Oh yeah I remember playing that game a few years back since my friend had it. Pretty good for an old Playstation fighting game. Though I doubt it would ever be the last game. I still think we're going to see a Wii Star Wars fighting game at one point since the wiimote is made for light saber fighting and the only way to get it all out at this point is with a full on fighter.

Thinking about it a few months ago when talking about Soul Calibur IV EGM mentioned that the "biggest boon to western gamers... pop culture "guest characters" this time around will make Soul Calibur 2's Span seem positlvey D-List". Then again most things seem fairly D list compared to Star Wars, espically two of the most well known shown joining the fray right away. So this isn't a joke. It is a definite reason to get Soul Calibur IV though. I do want the explanation of how Yoda and Darth are going to make it to the SC universe but more importantly just how balanced they are to the other fighters and if there's any more guests coming is something to also get excited about.
Instead of just using this new signature to celebrate a thousand more post, let me list of all the great things you can expect of me on this board for 2012:

...... The same talkbacks you saw me do last year but with new episodes.

.... What are you doing still reading this? Move to the next post already! .

Star Wars in Soul Calibur IV
First ever look at the Star Wars characters in Soul Calibur IV!
    By James Mielke, 01/09/2008
Soul Calibur and Star Wars fans gather 'round -- while haters grab a six pack of Haterade and their always-ready flamethrowers -- because Namco Bandai has finally released new info on the rumored secret characters set to appear in their highly-anticipated fighter, Soul Calibur IV, and 1UP has 'em first. In case you don't believe your eyes as they scan over these screenshots, you are indeed seeing the legendary purveyor of the Dark Side, Darth Vader, and his Force-wielding nemesis, Yoda.

Yes, we know what you're thinking. You're thinking "What the hell are Darth Vader and Yoda doing in my Soul Calibur sequel?" But how are these two any less logical (or illogical) than Link or Spawn (we'll let Heihachi slide since he's in Tekken)? You're probably also wondering "Where the damn is Luke Skywalker, Darth Maul and Boba Fett?" Well, Boba Fett doesn't really use melee weapons, unless you count that stick on his back that he never uses. But Luke and Darth maul make a lot of sense. While we can't answer all of these questions just now, we suspect that Namco Bandai still has plenty of stuff up their sleeve. Given their recent Ace Combat 6 shenanigans, we wouldn't be surprised to learn that additional Star Wars characters are paid-for downloadable content. It's unlikely that the company would go through all these negotiations with LucasArts to obtain the rights to only two characters, so expect more announcements as we get closer to SCIV's release date.

You might be praying to an assortment of gods above that Han Solo isn't given the carbonite boot in favor of Greedo or some loser from the Cantina scene, or that Anakin Skywalker and Jar-Jar Binks aren't added to the increasingly weird mix. Only time will tell if these characters do or don't make it into the game, but Darth Vader and Yoda have the obvious advantage of being fictional constructs, whereas some of the other possibilities would undoubtedly involve added likeness and licensing costs.

You're also probably wondering about how balanced a fight against Yoda, and his diminutive stature might be. Well, we never said Soul Calibur was perfectly balanced, and he's not that dissimilar to Gon, the tiny, manga dinosaur from Tekken 3 (PS1). All we can say is 'low sweep.' So, peruse these shots and start conjuring up your dream SC vs. SW match in the back of your minds (Taki versus Princess Leia? Light sabers versus Soul Edge? Yes, please!) Who would win? You'll soon be able to find out.

If only we could get Link in there, too. Then, we could have Link and Darth Vader fight.

The skeptic in me wants to say those images are doctored. Lucasfilm and Namco? Star Wars and Soul Calibur? Uh, okay, sure. It could work, I guess. Oh, and look, no shadows under the Vader model? And... and... the lighting in the Yoda picture doesn't look right! FAKE!!!

The fan in me is hoping those images are real. A crossover like this isn't unusual in the video game world, especially in fighting games. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is doing it, and that game is gonna be huge. So yeah, Star Wars + Soul Calibur... why not?

I'll wait for confirmation. But still...

    Whoa, nice!

Edit- Oh yeah, I forgot this isn't getting a Wii release. Looks like I'll have to wait a while for this one.

    ...really?

I pray to God this is a massive hoax. Who gave this the OK? It's the final battle between Siegfried and Nightmare, not Yoda and Darth Vader! GAH! I hope they can make up for this massive problem... or I may just pass on it.

Holy crap, I'm having the exact same feeling as when they announced Sonic and Solid Snake were going to be in SSBB. I hope this is real.

Okay, SC IV will be a great game. However sorry to dump cold water, but this is flat out stupid. When SC II had special cameos, they at least made some sense. But when Soul Calibur's entire theme is historical fantasy, how the hell does futuristic sci-fi fit in? It doesn't. There's no comparison with Smash, where crossover is the entire point. This is nothing but a cheap marketing gimmick.
I would suggest that it's not the medium, but the quality of perception and expression, that determines the significance of art. But what would a cartoonist know? -Bill Watterson

Damn right, certainly a hell of a lot more than Darth Vader. At least Spawn has supernatural roots and therefore a link to fantasy, even if it is a relatively weak one.
