Open Dreamcast

Well it looks like whether Sega wants it or not the Dreamcast is basicly open, as in anyone can program for it without Sega even knowledge due to the fact hobbyist have already cracked it wide open.

I've noticed on DC fourms that unoffical emulators, apps, and fan made games have already found their way onto the DC and that is not all a demo scene seems to be popping up on the DC. Yes people are showing the DC's power and their programing and aritisic skill with nice demos.

Ok so lets recap, you can buy a keyboard, mouse it comes with a modem and get a nic card for it, with a bit of modification you can put a HD and floppy on it and you can write for it (you can even write code on it) without answering to anyone (well offical you can't with contacted Sega but...). Hmmm the DC seems to do what Indromeda set out to do but Indromeda never got out of the gate and I don't thing it could even compete with DCs hobbyist scene.

I am so glad the DC won't have a problem like the Jag and 7800 had hobbyiest are still trying to crack them with only some success.

Well there is DC Tonic

Games on the disc:
Cool herders: Cartoony party game.

Tryptonite: 3D top-down space shooter

Burritro: 3d demo showing off this guy's programming skillz

Ganksoft demo: Teaser video showing stills from their upcoming puzzle game, Marbol.

Ghetto Pong: Early beta pong game that runs slow as hell

MP3 Jukebox: Amazingly well-done program that lets you swap out the demo disc and pop in an MP3 CD and play them flawlessly.

About this CD: Details on all the included games set to a morhping background of the guy's Dreamcast with different coloured casings.

You can download it but it is 80 megs and requires either DiscJuggler or Nero to burn it.

The same guys also made a Pac Man emulator that has Pacman, Ms. Pacman and Crush Roller. They also ported the game engine Sierra thus you can play early Sierra games on your Dreamcast but you need to also burn the data files as well which you have to get your self.

HA! I love it! Sega has had no idea how to market a console since the Genesis, and now that they've abandoned the Dreamcast, it's gonna wind up the most democratic console ever made. Beauty!
Now, we just need somebody to put up a primer on how to program the machine (i.e. how to design a game, actually write the needed code, etc) along with the necessary equipment. It may never actually see a Wal-Mart display case, but then again, that may not be a bad thing...
Also... No, I haven't a clue how to hack a DC, and wouldn't even know where to begin. But to actually have a tool that powerful...

Well all you need is a computer and software to complile it into code the Dreamcast understands.

Well you don't need to hack it, All you have to do is download the image and burn it onto a CD and let someone else worry about that.
