    Burnout: Revenge Talkback

    I got in the mail in an orange Gamefly envelope yesterday. I hate to say it, but I think I like Burnout 3 better.

    Being able to "check" same-direction traffic with impunity really messes up the delicate balance between realism and playability. First, the mind just recoils when you're able to slam full-on into a minivan going thirty when you're doing eighty and take no damage, and moments later nick a guard rail and total your vehicle. Second, the right-hand lane is now a "safe" zone, and the great thing about Burnout 3 is that there WERE no safe zones. And third, the fact that you can earn boost by checking traffic unbalances the game by rewarding you for something that carries very little risk.

    This is not to say that starting a huge chain reaction collision that flies down the street in front of you doesn't have its attraction, and if Burnout 3 didn't exist I'd probably be singing Revenge's praises right now. But the fact is that Burnout 3 DOES exist, and it's a much better game at a much lower price tag.

    I dunno, that's just my first impression. Anyone else gotten the chance to play it yet?

    Man, there is some cool things going on in this game but there's a handful of things that keep it from being beter than Bunrout 3 in my mind:

    - No overall menu to access certain race types in one Player mode. I want to ONLY play Crash mode, or revenge mode, or crashbreaker mode etc. I hate having to sift thru their bizarre organization system to find the levels I want to play

    - "realistic look" makes it harder to see what's going on. I like it a bit more arcadey

    -Loading times. OH GOD THE LOADING TIMES every time you screw up one of those damned "burning laps" you have to re-start since there's no point in continuing the race if you screw up once, but it seems to take more time to load than to actually play the race. Does it really need to re-load the stage EVERY SINGLE TIME!? isn't the whole reason for the "retry" option is to save on havng to load up a root menu and then re-select the stage?

    - Crash Mode startups: that bar is annoying, I have finally gotten then hang of it, but I still don't like it

    -Crash-cam has been tweaked to add more drama to the crashes, but it actually removes alot of the sence of destruction I had palying the first one, those cars FLEW, man!

    -Crashmode camera doesn't show you all the cool carnage, and even when you try to position the camera so you can aim your car before a crashbreaker, the damn camera shifts again forcing you to do a quick mental re-orient (sometimes it's impossible) what's the point of allowing you to move the camera if they're just gonna move it when you REALLY need it.

    -Timer in Road Rage sucks! I used to live for Road Rage, it was the perfect "pissed off at the world" cure

    -"Burning Laps" need to die....NOW as do flimst F1 style cares

    I agree, but I still instinctively avoid traffic, even when I'm playing traffic attack where the object is to smash the other cars.

    I don't really like the musical selection in this one either, I had more fun turning the music down and playing Crashmode levels with my brother crnaking Matrix Relaodad OST in the background ^__^
