    Shenmue 3 in the Works?

    Like This Thread!
Please, oh please God.... let this be true.

If it is true, then it looks like I'm not going to have much choice but to get an Xbox 360 as soon as humanly possible.

X-Box 360? Come on Sega! Give PS3 or the Revolution some more love.

In 2002, Xbox gamers enjoyed Shenmue II, the sequel to the first Shenmue title for the Sega Dreamcast. Shenmue II was developed exclusively (amongst the next-gen consoles Xbox, PS2, and GameCube) for the Xbox by SEGA-AM2 under the direction of world-renowned video game developer Yu Suzuki. Shenmue II was released on the Dreamcast prior to being brought over to the Xbox.
Not true. Shenmue 2 was made for the Dreamcast. Nobody in the states got a copy because they pulled it exactly 2 days from it's release and I sure as Hell didn't enjoy wating all of that time for absolutly nothing improved. Like most of us we were forced to import the UK version and play that. This was one of the worst decisions Sega made in it's history. They could've released the game, then had it redone for X-Box.

In the end I never bought an X-Box to this day to play a game I love with a passion.

Not sure what you are finding fault with here, as the article has no factual errors. As you stated, the game was released on Dreamcast, just not in Region 1. Anyway, I'm glad there are at least rumors of Shenmue III development; the first two games were wonderful.

Why? Neither of those exist but the 360 does; you can in fact hold a finished unit in your hand today (and pictures of a Microsoft staffer's kid doing such leaked all around the internet weeks ago). If they want it to get released as soon as possible they'll go with the system that has actually decided on its specs long ago and has development kits available.

    ...

Wasn't Shenmue III being touted way back in the day? I remember something about either an online game or some crazy fireball techniques.

There was news of a possible online game, but only the hope that Shenmue III was also in development, nothing official.

"Shenmue II was developed exclusively (amongst the next-gen consoles Xbox, PS2, and GameCube) for the Xbox" is a factual error, as it was originally developed for the Dreamcast, and then ported to the Xbox. It's only a semantic error, though.

As far as Shenmue Online goes, it may or may not still be in development (the developer that was working on it ceased work), but it was only planned for release in China/Korea anyway.

So this automaticly means Yu Suzuki should just put it on X-Box 360 because he can't wait another year? People can create the engine for the game and alter the actual coding later on to fit the specs of what console they're going to use it on. It's been done many times over by companies. Even before a console even had the acutal development kits started. Also I believe the engine for all of the Shenmue games was created with Maya so there shouldn't be a huge problem for them to overcome when their in their final stages. So I don't see why it can't go on Revolution or PS3.

Read the portion of the sentence inside the parenthesis. There is nothing false about the statement that among the next-gen consoles they list, that Shenmue II was developed exclusively for Xbox. This was more than a simple "port" to Xbox, as well.

My entire point is that "developed" is an incorrect word choice on their part, since it was originally developed for the Dreamcast. Amongst the systems mentioned in the parentheses, it was released exclusively on the Xbox, but it was never truly "developed" for the console in the first place. As I said, it's a simple semantic error.

Also: In what way do you believe it is not a simple port? From everything I've seen, the two versions are pretty much identical (and I have both of them).

I have them both as well, and you're right, they are pretty close. Here are the basic differences:

The DC version allows you to transfer saves from your DC Shenmue I (if you know how). That was obviously removed. The XBOX has some graphical "enhancements" made, if you can call them that, like the liberal amounts of motion blur they tend to apply and the light reflection effect they tried to go for. XBOX has the snapshots and the sidequests that are available with them, as well as the side-story mangas. The XBOX version adds English voice acting, whereas the DC version has the original voices with English subtitles (pretty much a personal preference choice).

Personally for me I was hyped for it when it came out for dcast then when I bought it........ugh. The combat was boring and it wasn't as open eneded as I was hoping for. If it was like a kung-fu morrowind then it would have been like the best ever. But the games in the Arcade were fun!

My dad was always wondering why I was looking for some soldiers... and I never played it after getting stuck at the beginning of disc 2.
