Ahahahahahaha!
I'm so happy I was never looking forward to this game. It's Half-Life 2 all over again.
People all over the internet are going insane over this. Unfortunally for everyone that is dling this right now, they've failed to understand what they need in order to play this:
-A modded X-Box
-An X-Box burn converter
-A CD-R/DVD-R that can fit the huge amout of gigs this thing takes
-Speak fluently in French
In fact........does it really matter once these things come to mind?
This happens ALL THE TIME, the only reason people are making a big deal about it is because it's Halo 2. I mean Street Fighter AC for Xbox has been leaked for weeks and it doesn't come out for a while, but no one is talking about it. Alnmost all GBA games are leaked up to a month before hand, it just happens. it doesn't really matter in terms of sales or release or anything. Again, people just care because it's Halo 2.
Very true and to be honest if I come across the download for Halo 2 I will download it and yes I am going to buy the game, but why not play it early.Originally Posted by Opaque

My two cents on the issue is that even though you do need a lot to play the bootleg game, it is certainly not out of the question for most Halo fanatics.
Seriously, I'm sure you all know that this thing is the second coming of Jesus in Spartan form to a lot of people. My room/house mate, for example, has a $30 reserve for the game and taken 3 days off of work for it. I believe his exact words were "By that Saturday, my eyes will be bleeding. You might as well buy the Ren and Stimpy DVD and enjoy your last few weeks of television."
Not to mention that the biggest Halo freaks usually are technologically blessed. DVD-Rs and god only knows what else. And it's in French? Who cares? People play the game to play the game.
Bottom line is this game WILL be downloaded by an ass ton of people, but not me.
It's nothing with my morals or ethics or anything, it's not even the no modded XBox situation.
I just think Halo sucks.
"In an universe where nothing that we do matters, the only thing that matters is what we do."
Maybe it's just me, but 80% of rabid, frothing at the mouth Halo fanboys are the one with the crazy XBox mods anyway.
My ultimate dream:
Millions download the leaked game, realize how crappy it is, and a day later, millions of preorders are revoked and Microsoft sells maybe, 3 copies of the game. And 2 of those owners use the game as a coaster and use the DVD case as a case for a copy of NesterDC.
Don't let yourself get caught up in the hype.
I wasn't too fond of the original Halo (though it certainly has some very inspired moments), but it looks like the sequel may improve on a lot of the problems of the original. There's nothing wrong with taking fanboys down a peg, but I don't think it's fair to judge this game just yet.
I thought there was a lot of potential in the first game, but it failed to come together to form the excellent game everyone claimed it as. So now I'm excited to see what Bungie can do with the game now that they have more time, money, and knowledge of what works and what doesn't.

Well speaking as one of the few X-Box owners in America who HASN'T modded it (Originally Posted by Nin-Nin69

I don't keep track of it but isn't Halo 2 supposed to be Live! ready?
If so, I expect millions to be sold regardless of whether the bootleg is out. No matter how pitiful it is compared to many PC games, it will still be considered one of the "best" FPS' simply because it's on the consoles.

It is palyable on Live, and that's exactly why this leak doesn't matter at all. Everyone is going to buy hard copies. The only thing that could cmoe from this is early story spoilers and plot reviews.Originally Posted by Mog
you'd have to be an idiot to dl halo 2 now. we're less than a month away... why ruin the experience by playing a ****** version instead of the real (and better) thing. I've had Halo 2 reserved for years, literally freakin years... so I have no problem waiting another few weeks for it.
on a related topic, I have no problem with people downloading other games. but this is Halo 2 and a leaked copy at that.
This is the "real (and better) thing." That's why people download it. The only difference between the leaked versions and the hard copy is that the real copies allow you to play on Live!, which is probably the only reason anybody will want to buy it.Originally Posted by prozzak

Dang it,they only leak games I'm not looking forward to.
I had no idea... since I can't play LIVE anyway (dial-up), maybe I should just dl it and save my $55. it's crazy what the internet can do for you these days...Originally Posted by Mog
I think the reason why it costs 55 bucks is because of piracy...
people always try to take the short-cuts and "save" money
but when the files and servers arn't 90%+ safe then some person can implant a bug or virus in illegal freeware much more easily
hence the people who download it end up spending more in getting their CPUs fixed because they tried save money on one game...
in other words it's gonna comeback and bite you on the ass...
and it's mostly China's and Korea's fault....being the hives that they arr
...That has never happened to me.Originally Posted by Artimus Gigan
But anyway, I'm not going to download it, even though my E: drive could easily fit it. Why? Cause Bungie is flipping out. They have a right to, but I think anyone who downloads it is asking for a subpeona. Especially if using bittorrent.
Plus, you can't play pirated games on live anyway.
Oh, and Nin-Nin, whats an xbox burn converter?
Here's an article from Gamespot about Bungie's reaction.Originally Posted by atf487
Empty threats? Perhaps, but considering the game is only a month away, I don't think it's really worth the risk.It should be noted that players who download the game illegally could face a maximum penalty of $100,000 per instance for copyright violations. "We consider downloading this code or making it available for others to download as theft," the statement continues.
"Microsoft," the post says, "is currently engaged in a full-scale investigation" to come down hard on "those foolish enough to partake in this piracy."

Since the PS1 was being modded, certain compaines such as EA, Capcom, and SquareSoft were putting burn detectors on their games at the time. So if you were playing a burned copy of Resident Evil:Gun Survivior on a modded PS1, the game would identify the burn and give you a message to contact Sony and report.....well yourself.Originally Posted by atf487

So people started creating special coding for the games when they burned them. This way the message wouldn't popup. Knowing full well that Halo 2 isn't officially released here yet, there still is no coding to the game. So it's hopeless.
