Ok guys, I just picked up my copy at Best Buy for $50 since I already reserved it there. I've been playing for an hour now and the AI in the game is so incredible. Well thats enough for now. Time to slay some more Imps.

If you've seen the new Penny Arcade strip.... that's basicly how I'm feeling right now. My computer (the one that can run it anyway) is packed up in a box somewhere at the house I'm moving into.

The best I could do was spend the day at my friends house and watch him. No, he didn't let me try, but I did a lot of backseat gaming.

    From what I've seen...

The multiplayer isn't that much fun. Hopefully the SDK tools will be released quickly and a mod can fill in that hole.

The best part of the singleplayer is Super Turkey Puncher.

Having no use button was a dumb idea. Basicly it's to keep you from killing certain friendlies I guess, but you can still set big flame machines things on this one guy who's trapped in a room. He yells something like " NOO, YOU EEDIOT" satisfying nonetheless.

VO wise, so far I've noticed Phil Lamar, Dee Baker, Nick Jameson, and Steven Blum.

More Impressions once I finally get it -_-

Edit: I forgot to mention the lack of monster hordes is =(

I touched a sealed copy today at Best Buy. Then I cried afterwards when realizing I can't run it.

    OUch that bites.

If anyone else is playing this game, please make a mini-review and post it here. I would like to read more of such posts, cuz I am still not sure I should buy the game yet...

    Thanks in advance.

I'm getting mine tomorrow. I've heard it's had problems with ATI cards. MY X800 BETTER RUN IT!

I'm running an X800 Pro on an AMD-FX53 processor with a gig of ram...SO IT BETTER RUN! I paid too damn much for my rig to not run anything lol. (Going to college makes such a good excuse for blowing some of my $ super machine :P)

I've got a 9800XT w/ AMD 64 FX-53. So far it's playing great on the highest settings without any problems. Then again I guess that's because my fan is so fricken huge.

Thank God, my laptop would explode if I put Doom 3 in it, but I want to play it more than anything.

My Athlon 64 and 9800 PRO are at the ready. I bet I can get it going at high on 1280x1024 with nice framerates. I might even turn on AA/AF, but that's something I'll look at when I actually play the game and deem it possible.

Ok here is my review of what I've played so far:

Graphics: Blows your fricken mind! Wow. Just wow. I know Halo 2 can't, but possibly HL2 can top this. Everything right down to the core looks so realistic. Even the hands of the character looks real. Almost everything is interactive and the bullet holes in the walls are fricken cool.

Lighting: Best I've seen in any game period. Tron 2.0, Riddick, HL, Halo, Deus Ex, nothing can top the lighting effects in this game.

Weapons: Chaingun, Rocket Launcher, Shotgun, just a few of the many weapons that can leave quite a stain on the wall. The flashlight is your best friend in this game. Without it, you're dead.

Sounds: Remember all of those creepy voices or noises you heard in Silent Hill games and kept you at the edge of your seat? Well multiply those by 30x and you'll have a general idea about the enviroment around you.

AI: These are some vicious muthas. They'll come out of anything and anywhere. Dodging, straffing, lunging towards you, hiding behind corners or boxes. They do it all. I won't give out any details, or else it may ruin the moment of supprise The unfortunate part is once you know where all the guys are, you'll see a pattern and memorise where and when they'll arive on screen. Then again you'd have to play through the game about 20 times to remember all of that.

Multiplayer: Very poor. Downright boring maps. I understand that ID didn't want to focus on that aspect for now, but I wanted something more than what they offered for levels. Thats ok, atleast thats what the free level editor is for.

Overall this is the scariest game I've ever played in my life. I recomend you play this alone with all of the lights off with the volume cranked up on your surround sound speakers. Even though I haven't fully beaten the game yet, I give this a 4.8 out of 5.

Hey Nin, can you try it with headphones just once? I don't have 5.1 and I would like to know how good it would be if I just used headphones instead of my 2.1's.

And as for the AI, is it as ruthless as the AI in FarCry?

well at least you have headphones my crappy stereo speakers blew and now I have one speaker that thinks I'm runnign stereo so I miss some sounds...one speaker..yeah. The bastard, that's it's name. Don't have Doom yet..so hopefully I can beg my mom for my headphones for college early.

and the AI in farcry was good but DOWNRIGHT CHEAP. Sometimes man, you'd be hiding so well and they'd see you hiding in a cliff with a sniper rifle...it was cheap. I hated and loved the AI. I want a tough AI that has a REAL stealth system, the one in Farcry , I thought was actually quite poor. You could NOT sneak up and knife someone, they'd ALWAYS turn around.

    Doom3 > *********

If you have an ATI card then download the new catylist beta. I'm pretty sure these are the one's with the rewritten opengl drivers.

There is no 24-bit HD audio, hardware mixing, or EAX effects so any Audigy 2 ZS action you have going on goes to waste.

I finally got a go at it, but spent most of my time examining cones and other stuff yelling and strangling my friend about why they're not bumpmapped. So what if they are? I couldn't pass up watching two nerds beat each other up even if I was one of them.

I've been hearing that most people are getting 5.1 systems even though it will support up to six channel audio, which I'm greatful that I only have to upmix one speaker to suit my needs.

Did that already. Sound quality is incredible with headphones. Depending on your rig, you may have to reverse the sound to get accurate results.

These guys have a better stragity and an idea about the surrounding area than you do. So you can expect some Marine tactics with the zombies and some suprising moves by the creatures of the night.

BTW I just found this while searching one of the rooms:

Great. I was really hoping that headphones would work, because my speakers just don't do any game justice.

As for drivers, I'll wait until the new Omega drivers come out. Omega>Catalyst. ATI even said it themselves.

I just played this over at the local gaming center and all I have to say is wow! The game looks incredible the lighting and detail is out of this world. The game also retains the frantic action from the old DOOM games, but now with a story and a hell of alot more scary. I played for about an hour and my jaw was just on the floor the entire time.
