The beauty of Halo is in the multiplayer. I don't know anyone who really plays the game by themselves unless they were just practicing to play multiplayer.
I never did get what was so appealing about the game. It was pretty boring in my opinion. I didn't think the graphics were all that great either when I first played it. I couldn't get into this game at all. The part I really liked was that there was no such thing as a game over. Some stuff was good in it, but I just didn't get much fun out of it. It wasn't really innovative or anything except for the 16 players thing. Other than that, we had seen most of the stuff before in other games.
Did it catch your eye or not? What did or didn't?

I don't get what's so great about Halo either. It's not bad or anything, but it's not the best first person shooter of all time either. That honor goes to the original Unreal Tournament (PC/Mac, NOT the PS2 version). I do admit that the networking/multiplayer options in Halo are a huge step up from earlier tries on consoles and the graphics are quite good, but it's too slow paced for my liking and most of the weapons are fairly standard. The level designs are fairly bland compared to UT as well. I don't mean this to be a Halo bash, because it IS a good game, but it's not the greatest game to walk the planet.

HALO has a good single player campagin, but its really only fun with co-op. The real beef of the game is the multiplayer and thats why it is so appealing to so many people. It's easy to pick up and play and it's fun. Im personally not a huge HALO fan, but I like the game and will pick up HALO 2 on release day.
I realy don't care all that much for shooters in the first place so it's kinda
annoying when you start talking about games and all somone says the ENTIRE TIME is " OMG HALO" or "OMG HALO2 !!!1" ad that's the only game they ever
talk about in my experience.... it gets old fast. No matter how good a game or even a show is for that matter... obsessing about it and slamming anyone who
talks about it is just dumb and rabid...(see sig quote)
I like a show called last exile TONS but i'm not gonna go psychopath on somone
who says they don't like it...
Rabid fans = make games look bad
I have a gamecube so i'm just gonna wait til Metroid prime 2 is out
it supposedly has multiplayer, which I'd be curios to see how that's done

As already stated in this thread, it's all about the multiplayer. It's a great game to just sit around with your friends and play. I personally love being able to play multiplayer on the missions. When the hype for Halo first started, I also found myself questioning what could be so great about a simple first person shooter. But, as soon I picked it up and played, I found out why.
"You get the other guy on the ropes. You keep him there. You mangle his ears. Fill his eyes with blood. Pulp his kidneys. Grind up his ribs. Don't let up. And if he still won't hit the canvas--you go on and bleed him to death."- Frank Castle
I also don't get what's so great about, even in the multiplayer. Maybe its popularity is just from the fact that there's a lack of good FPS games on consoles, but I find it to be pretty average. =\
I also dont think Halo is very good or deserving of said hype. Though, I will never understand FPS fans, they seem to be in a world all their own. I like FPS games alright (I like UT2K3, and will buy UT2K4), but I don't understand the rabid fans.
I found Timesplitter 2's multiplayer to be much more entertaining than Halo's. I guess the warthog is what makes it so fun and the fact you can shoot a rocket at it and blow the person off...but after the first 10 or so times, even that gets boring.
I played it on the PC...while it was fun, it just repeated too much. Going through the same buildings over and over (well ok, maybe not, but I sure went through alot that LOOKED the same).
Whenever I hear people talk about Halo 2 though, it's not about the multiplayer...so if it was the multiplayer that made Halo, then why aren't people pining for more multiplayer details on Halo 2?
There are so many FPS's on the market, I don't see how any of they can floor anyone anymore.

I agree with everything you said. Though, the first time I got the game, I did play campaign first. After that, I just played to practice for multiplayer.Originally Posted by Eidan

Yeah, it's the multiplayer. And the best part is, the more the better. Did 8 person LAN yesterday - so much fun!![]()

I don't care much for this game either. The graphics were not even that outstanding besides the videos they released for it 2 years before it came to X-Box. The single player story is tedious and boring. The guns are average and the aliens ones are poorly done. Multiplayer is only fun on the big maps because of the vehicals. This game should be a failure for that alone. However the people that supported X-Box brought up all of the hype and kept it alive. The novel was also a big help.
Red Vs. Blue is the major reason now why Halo is so popular. I discovered it before anyone and didn't find it that exciting at the time. Then they post it at IGN and EGM, then millions of people swamp the site every day and it's impossible to download one episode now. Besides someone else used that with Tribes 2 a few years ago and nobody mention the site that Red Vs. Blue took their idea from. Counter Strike and Unreal Tournament are dying to have something like that done, but only the future will tell.
Bungie should've stuck to making another Marathon. Atleast that wouldn't disapoint us.
These are the fans that are deep into the story of Halo and the other that read the novels. Right now they're more concerned about the story because they know the multiplayer will be great.Originally Posted by Bird Boy
Halo was decent. But it doesn't compare to the SP story of Goldeneye, Half-Life, or Call of Duty, and the multiplayer isn't as good as CS or UT. It's got a good blend of both, though.
