Matinee has a "Sin City" Frank Miller feel to it. Which frankly I like. It's dark, yet down to earth. It's not Black or white....just in between ^_^!
Now, is there a story for this character?
Hi all!
Recently I've had the pleasure of working on The Valentine Chronicles with author Paul L. Mathews, and I'm proud to present an ongoing showcase of some of the artwork I've created there.
First of all, one of my favourite pieces--a bodyguard called "Matinee":
Feedback and critiques are, as always, very welcome!![]()

Nice work. There is a Frank Miller quality to it which I like. She does look like she'd fit in in Sin City. Good job. Keep it up.![]()

Hello again!
Now, I know I've posted these before, but what good is a "The art of the Valentine Chronicles" thread without pictures of the eponymous heroines?![]()
My lords, ladies and gentlemen, I give (again!), Tatiana and Katarina Valentine!

And here we have Tatiana and Katarina's uncle, Ivan.

A retired mercenary, Ivan has tried to leave his old career behind him, but now he discovers that isn't at all easy...
More soon!

Again nice work. Tatiana and Katarina look nice.Interesting background on their uncle. He does look like someone who I wouldn't want to mess him. Hope to see more from you.

I love the first image. That's probably the best thing I've seen from your hands (and given your general level of professionalism, that's some feat!). Love the suggestive contrasts, the proportions and the in-your-face aggression. Great stuff.

Thanks, JLU Dude! Striking, aren't they?![]()
Rich praise indeed, James--thanks! I've been trying to up my game recently, and it's good to see it's apparent. Thank you.
Which brings us nicely to the latest image: Ivan's cyborg dog, Stalin!
Once part of a pack of similiar combat models colloquially known as Pavlov's Dogs, Stalin is the only one left in one peice. As an absolute coward, that's just the way he likes it!
More to follow!

Great work! Excellent job on Stalin.![]()
No problem, Frozen. Pretty good job on the cyborg dog. Interesting choice of name, too. Keep up the good work.![]()

Hey!
This week, we have a trio of sketches:
All three of these are prospective illustrations for the next installment of the Valentine Chronicles: an Ivan Valentine tale entitled Russians.
As you might expect from sketches, they are very much works in progress, with all sorts of mistakes and dodgy proportions--but that's the charm of a sketch, right?![]()
As ever, any feedback is very welcome.![]()

Wow, I notice a lot of you guys have really clean, tight pencil work here. I rarely do that anymore--it's too tough for me to be that clean. I usually pencil very scratchy and loose, and then tighten things up in the inking stage.
I am heartened to see a dodgy-looking hand in your second pic. It's good to see I'm not the only one who struggles with making a hand look good. Your Baroness hand looked great, though.
Those are some damn cool sketches Frozen, dig the details you made, especially the first one with the wall made out of skulls. Awesome job indeed.

Good work.I concur with Leaping Larry Jojo about your lines being clean and tight. Interesting idea on the wall of skulls with the first one. Nice job on the mood of the second one. It looks like they augring.

LOL. Larry, I struggle with everything... :0D
I'm glad that comes across. The two characters are, indeed, arguing in that scene. Thanks!
Okay, this week we have--further to the sketches I posted earlier--the first finished pic:
I'm actually surprised how well this has come out, considering it was mainly "inked" using biro!It does seem as though the older I get, the less precious I am about both the materials I use and how "accurate" my work has to be. Has anybody else found this?

Nice inking and coloring job. It being mostly in black and white really helps to create a creepy mood. Excellent work.![]()
