    Really Old Cartoons

    Like This Thread!
I would really like to see who remembers the older cartoon shows. I hope this thread gets really big and we all think about the good ol days and be happy. I just saw The Adventures Rocky and Bullwinkle and I'm feeling nastalgic (correct spelling?)

Ok. Who here remembers "The Popples"?

Holy moly. I remember that show also. I've got a few episodes on tape, but I can't remember where they are. God, has it been 15 years since "Popples" first aired?
I feel that a big problem with today's society is that we don't listen to our fellow man -- especially when I'm talking.

Thats one old cartoon! Popples are REALLY old. I only remember one episode: They go to a grocery store and ride around on the little entrace metal spinny doohicky and call it a popple-go-round. I actually have a stuffed popples somewhere...

Now who remembers a little show called "My Pet Monster"?

To some of us, 15 years isn't what we'd call "really old" ;-)

You want old cartoon shows? Try growing up watching weekday afternoon TV in the Chicago area circa the early 80's (pre-"He-Man"): the Little Rascals (there was a Sat. morning cartoon version as well at this point, which I watched; was part of the same show as "Richie Rich"), reruns of Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes (under the generic syndicated banner of "Bugs Bunny and Friends"---old 40's-era Looney Tunes), Woody Woodpecker, the Flintstones, the Jetsons, and the "Brady Kids". This last show was made in the mid-70's by Filmation, and was seen by me in reruns in the early 80's. Definintely a possible contender for the "Worst Made-For-TV Cartoon Ever Made" (and my not liking the Brady Bunch as is didn't help).

And since in my hometown we picked up South Bend Indiana stations as well, we also got: the Smurfs, Scooby Doo, and Bullwinkle (which aired with the original "Rocky and His Friends" opening and closing credits, with Rocky flying from one circus trailer to another).

Visiting my grandmother's house, on Indianapolis TV in the 80's I also got to see "Wacky Races"/"Stop That Pigeon" reruns (which didn't air on Chicago TV), all on the now-Fox-affiliate...

We also got cable early on in the 80's, and thus, we watched USA's "Cartoon Express" when it was all reruns of 70's Hanna-Barbara shows (Inch High Private Eye, Laff-a-lympics, Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Hong Kong Fooey, and apparently all the 70's-era "Flintstones" spinoff series).

I note that almost all of these shows probably ran without being edited as much for content (black and white Popeye cartoons, violent gun gags, the original "Rocky and his Friends" bumpers, etc.) as they are nowadays. Can't recall the last time I'd seen the aforementioned "Rocky" opening credits (it's always the "Bullwinke Show"'s ones)...

What are Popples, they sound familiar? Are they bears with freaky noses?

and I thought I was in to cartoons...

Popples were these wierd little bear things that could turn into balls and bounce around. Then they would turn into a bear again by popping out. They had all kinds of crazy adventures.

That is a popple. I hope the image shows.

I'm really high on Rocky and Bullwinkle right now after seeing the movie. It made me think of the first times I saw the episodes. I hope that isn't the end of them. They are awesome. Maybe I'll do some 3d work on them tonight.

    Ah, nostalgia....

I remember Monzie. Beastur was my favorite cartoon villain back in seventh grade or so--I even drew a pic of him for a school project once. I always liked freezing the tape right when he went through the portal to Monsterland--trippy color effects. Oh...and Alyson Court, one of my fav v.o.a's, was the voice of the blonde girl; she would later do v.o for Beetlejuice, X-Men, and even Daria.

I'm ancient--I can still remember when you could see a blackface gag or a character blow his frigging brains out in a cartoon! Gimme my prunes and my box of adult diapers, dagnabbit!

    Ah....

....the Smurfs. I remember that show. I also remember a coupla of the chars in the show, but nothing else....but I still enjoyed it. Anyone else remember these other than Brainatra and me?

Hm. All I saw was the Bullwinkle show. Oh, well. Still good though. Always remember this one line between Fearless Leader (name?) and a crony:

    Crony: Thank Goodness!
    Fearless Leader: What was that?!
Crony: Uh, I mean Thank BADNESS!

    Ah....classic dialouge.

I don't know, but I think the Smurfs air on Boomerang.

I don't even get that TV station; I will only get mad if they move Looney Tunes and Rocky & Bullwinkle there.

Knowing the goons at CarGOON Networm, Bullwinkle is headed to the garbage dump (aka Boomerang).

Sigh....you're probably right about Bullwinkle, Sven....they most likely WILL move it just to make more room for Scooby-Doo-DOO....heck, Boomerang may have been made so CN could move ALL its shows there but one....and air Scooby 24 hours a day!

You gotta admit that's a plausible theory....

Lessee, Rainbow Brite, check; the Littles, one of my favorites; the, oh those little blue guys, yeah; Popples, just barely; I think I remember all of these so far. I have one memory of the uncut Fresh Hare, from TBS of all places, back when it was WTBS (Useless Fact: as long as it's been on our cable system --- since the '70's --- WTBS has been on Channel 4 on our cable system; next door, on Channel 3, is KTBS; 2 TBS's next to each other). I also remember the Bullwinkle Show with the Bullwinkle opening parodied on that TTA ep. Wacky Races? Stop That Pigeon? Hey, throw in The Perils of Penelope Pitstop while you're @ it. My faves. Underdog, Space Kidettes, Roger Ramjet, Mighty Heroes (is this starting to sound like a thread from Termite Terrace?), Hector Heathcote, Deputy Dawg, James Hound, Sad Cat, Possible Possum, Hashimoto San, Heckle & Jeckle, the original Mighty Mouse, etc. Hey, while we're @ it, anyone remember the Great Space Coaster? Another personal fave. And you wanna talk Saturday morning network tv? I'm game. PandaMonium, Meatball & Spaghetti, Dukes of Hazzard cartoon, Pole Position, Mighty Orbots, Turbo Teen, Trollkins, Gillilgan's Planet, Saturday Supercade, Pac-Man. Oh! another mainstay of my youth: Gigglesnort Hotel. I know, not a cartoon; I threw it in anyway.

I wouldn't be upset if they moved all classic stuff to Boomerang once it was as available as CN. I would really like having 2 channels on Basic Cable, one for new cartoons and one for old stuff.

I don't think that they'll put Bullwinkle on Boomerang just because they don't own the rights to it and need to pay $$$ for it. They will be able to defray those costs much better if it's on CN, since CN is more available and so sponsors pay more for commercials on CN. Maybe they would do it if Boomerang became as popular as CN is now, but that's at least years into the future (if ever). Right now, they would drop Bullwinkle before moving it to Boomerang (Heaven Forbid!)

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggg ggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please, no. CNN is trying to court the Republicans. Anything is possible, especially now that FAUX News is basically the Conduit News Channel. scooby-doo, Conduit/Levy, Clinton bashing, whining on FAUX about a "liberal" biased media, shark attacks, more scooby-doo, inane celebrity stories, clones, Bush's stem cell "support," and of course: Bill O'Really (supporting the working man, that is if he contributes big buck$ to FAUX News)

The country is going down the tubes.

Hmm...I recall WTBS/TBS was sandwiched between...uhm....HBO and Chicago's WYCC-TV (Channel 20; PBS/"college credit"---its supported by the "community colleges of Chicago") on the cable system in my hometown...

    >>> I also remember the Bullwinkle Show with the Bullwinkle opening parodied on that TTA ep.<<<

That would be the opening from "Rocky and His Friends", the original name for the "Bullwinkle Show"...though I thought the TTA parody had some amusing bits, I never bought into its rather disparaging view of Rocky and Bullwinkle (esp. with that "dated sixties references" crack---like *they* should talk ["Gang Busters"/"Washingtoon"/"Vanilla Lice", anyone?]).

Never seen that show at all....

"PandaMonium"...ick. Saw that show at least once (having woken up to watch it while Mom was cleaning the living room carpet with one of those carpet shampooers), and didn't think much of it...

Trollkins I thought was somewhat amusing, along with "Pac-Man". Also recall the "Saturday Supercade". Also liked the Great Space Coaster (a live-action humans/puppets show that aired in the late 70's/early 80's in syndication)...also recall watching reruns of "The Banana Splits"...

Yes, the Smurfs are on Boomerang (I get it on my DirecTV). Also on weekdays this month (the selection of shows rotates every month) you can also catch showings of The Snorks, Richie Rich, The Hair Bear Bunch, Yogi's Gang, The Funky Phantom, Goober and the Ghost Chasers, Super Globetrotters, Atom Ant, and Secret Squrriel. Not to mention, the daily 3-hour block devoted to an H-B classic (this month it's Yogi, Huck, Quick Draw, Pixie & Dixie, and Augie Doggie).

Does anyone else remember the "Lion Witch and the Wardrobe" cartoon that used to come on all the time? Does Cartoon Network own the rights to it? I sort of recall seeing it air on that station, along with the "Phantom Tollbooth."

I really rember The Alvin Show, I think my favorite episode was the one with ostrich. I also loved Clide Crashcup and when he tried to invent a bed. I also recall Pac-Man, with the gangster-like ghosts. I think they were supposed to have personalities like famous 20s gangsters, but don't remember.

Someone (tried to make) a 'toon of 'The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe'? I knew there was an animated version of it.
for those who may not remember the title: think 'Narnia'
