Networks you wish would experiment with animation

    Like This Thread!

Well, we've got the obvious: Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Fox...but what about some other networks trying animation?

My candidates are USA and MTV.

I think USA should try animation because, well, "Characters Welcome" (more like "Crime Detectives Only" at the rate the network's going), perhaps a revival of USA Cartoon Express.

I know MTV used to do a LOT of animation (Beavis and Butthead, Daria, Clone High, Aeon Flux, Celebrity Deathmatch...) but they kind of had a falling-out with it. They tried to experiment with Good Vibes and the Beavis and Butthead revival but Good Vibes failed and the Beavis and Butthead revival...just disappeared. No idea why, people seemed to like it.

MTV needs to do more then revivals and Family Guy-level humor for animation if they're going to experiment with it; they need to pick up some original animation too. I think the 3 Dog Band pilot could work on MTV with some minor modifications, and I wonder if they'd still be interested in doing Deadtime Stories...

An animated drama series from ANY network would sound nice right now.
Tropes that are ruining Western/European Animation (and any animes involving school):
    Spoiler:
    1. Twins and/or Rich Kids as antagonists; Bullies in general. 2. Annoying jerk sibling characters and/or General sibling characters who hate each others' guts. 3. Hidden Caucasian male dominance (usually subverted to be female in anime, which can be equally as bad – and a real turnoff in general!).

It would be interesting to see HBO experiment with animation again. Spawn was highly acclaimed after all.

The reason why was that MTV had a changeover that prevented it from getting another season. Mike Judge had said 2 days ago that he's trying to find time to pitch the show to another network as he hinted he has the rights to the show now but he's working on his other show now (Silicon Valley). He hasn't ruled it out so possibly expect another (Maybe permanent, this time) comeback.

I agree. MTV specialised in animation and I think that was part of their charm alongside music videos. I don't see a reason not to experiment with animation. Disney Channel almost phased animation out altogether until they saw what a success Phineas and Ferb became and now they have Gravity Falls (one of the most popular shows on the internet) and Wander Over Yonder and many more are in production.

Showtime should consider experimenting with animation. The last animated series I've seen was The Busy World of Richard Scarry although I mostly watched it on Nickelodeon's Nick Jr.

Thought Showtime's last animated series I can think of was "Queer Duck" (which aired as a companion series to the US version of "Queer As Folk"). I wouldn't mind another animated series starring LGBT characters (a rarity in US animation), though would prefer non-stereotyped ones...

I think so, too, especially since Comcast has been working at a fever pitch to get TV animation utilized, especially for NBC Universal, and resurrecting the Cartoon Express programming block on USA would be a significant step in that direction. At the same time, animation studios can pitch their concepts to Comcast in order to utilize TV animation. If that happens, I can see the Cartoon Express programming block being resurrected for Sunday mornings(the FCC's E/I mandate restricts NBC's ability to put animated TV entertainment on Saturday mornings), namely from 7:00 a.m. to noon It's definitely something worth looking into, especially for accessibility reasons.
Like it or not, I never apologize for being a fan of whomever they may be.

It would be interesting to see how USA would use animation. While their original cartoons from the 90s (Itsy Bitsy Spider, Problem Child, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Savage Dragon) werent well-recieved, it would be nice to see them put out a good series (and with less limitations, technical and storywise, than in the 90s they have a lot more to work with).

How about BBC America? That would be perfect for revivals of 1980's British produced cartoon series Dangermouse and Count Duckula, both which aired on Nickelodeon in the USA.

MTV use to be nearly the equivalent of what the UK's "Channel Four" did with animation in the 80's and 90's, at least in giving indie artists a shot at doing ID's or shorts that played on the network (at least Liquid TV could be seen as a launching pad for a lot of it). Some often told me that much of MTV's interests in animation during that time was more a alternative/underground thing they tapped into since nobody else did, and perhaps that was really the only reason any of it got out in the mainstream at all than confined to film festival or other remote screenings.

Of course if I had to pick a network, mine would be PBS, if only for what PBS use to mean to me way back then (for anyone who stayed up late nights to watch "Alive from Off Center", that was some good TV).
