Eh, they could look a whole lot better, but they're not necessarily hideous. (That's just my opinion, though.)

I hope CN indefinitely passes on this - the viewers of that channel have suffered enough and the huge ire/hatred towards CGI in general (especially with taking old children's animation properties and desperately trying to bring them into the 21st century, which just doesn't work!) is only growing larger and larger with each passing day... And not just because of my parenthesized example, either.

Also, if those trash-heap movies are ANY indication, they don't deserve this, nor have they earned this - this is just one more battered children's TV franchise that needs t be shelved, forgotten, then trashed for taking up too much space in the garage.

Whoa, now wait a minute. Yes, it's possible that this upcoming series will likely assume that the viewer is only familiar with the movies, but I personally would never wish that on any franchise (well, not really). In fact, one could say that about any older franchise, but while bad treatments of classic franchises exist (I won't name names...), so do good ones (although I can't think of any recent ones off hand at the moment).* Anyway, who knows, maybe at some point in the future, Alvin and the Chipmunks will get a better treatment from some other person (or company), but yes, until then, we have this...

*To be honest, though, I'm not so sure about Ruby-Spears portraying Alvin (in their version from the 1980's) as the living embodiment of every human fault anyone can think of, with Brittany (one of The Chipettes) essentially being the female version of all that (something that DIC would continue when they picked up where R-S left off). I mean, it isn't that bad, really. Ruby-Spears were just being themselves, and I know they meant well, but still.
Cartoons aren't "just for kids"...but they're not just for adults either. They're for everyone.

Has there ever been a good, original, creator-driven CG show?

Well despite the fact that Alvin's design is terrible, look at the bright side, we may actually be able to get re-runs of the original shows if say The Hub or someone picks it up.
    I love classic cartoons!!

Alvin was never as chipmunky as Chip 'n Dale. The Chip 'n Dale designs are far superior.
What Alvin had going for him is his over sized shirt, which they trimmed.

What gets me is he's wearing pants. Everyone knows animal people don't wear pants.
I don't think he had pants in the movies. I'm not sure what he had on under his shirt in the 80's cartoon.
