Do the Bart Simpson

Apparently this song has since dropped off the map, despite being played on radio stations across the country the summer of 1990. I only have one somewhat bad copy of it...and can't find any more info on it.

It has original lyrics, but is mostly clips from the first season put to music. Used to play this all the time back in the day.

Anyone have more info on it?

It was called "Do the Bartman", actually.

The Simpsons' writers made fun of the song in one episode. Milhouse gets an earring and all of the kids on the school bus are admiring it. In an attempt to turn the kids' attention himself, Bart tries to start a rendition of "Do the Bartman". Naturally, everyone just looks at him as if he's gone insane. Then Ralph Wiggum says "That is so 1991!"

This one was way before Do the Bartman. Had to of been within that first thirteen episode season and totally different lyrics. I'd upload it, but links to uploaded content is probably forbidden

A youtube and google search showed up nothing for 'Do the Bart Simpson'.

No, I too clearly recall "Do the Bart Simpson"---a distinct song written before "Do the Bartman", back during the first season of the Simpsons (and its heavy reruns) when the Simpsons were red-hot. The song had as the refrain "Do the Bart Simp-sonnnnn" mixed with sound clips of Bart saying "Ay Caramba!" and Homer saying "D'oh" repeatedly. It was all over the radio during the summer of 1990.

It fell by the wayside once the second season, as well as the first CD "Simpsons Sing the Blues" came along, giving us actual original Simpsons song material. Guess since it's a fan-made song (and per Fox's heavy-handed crackdown on such stuff) IIRC, it won't be on CD anytime soon... hmph...

Yeah, both "Do the Bartman" and its' follow-up "Big Big Trouble" just screamed "Let's do a quick cash-in on the Bart Simpson merchandising phenomenon". I didn't like those videos when I was supposed to and I don't like them now.

2 Live Crew did have a song called "do the bart" around the same time but i dont think it had anything to do with Bart Simpson. Maybe a radio station just took that song and added simpson soundbites to it.

I found the song cheesy as well, but the fluid high-quality animation was awesome. If Groening had a Simpsons movie made during the 1990's on cel, it would probably look a little like this.

Wow, the song wasn't officially licensed? I didn't even think you could do that when clips form the show where included.

I had my recording from WPLJ in NY circa 1990 or so and they played it all summer at least....

But I doubt it was just a locally played song

It was probably a rap group that recorded it unlicensed during the height of the Bart Simpson craze and a local radio station played it. It might have been a local artist. It's not like Fox execs were quick to take action against bootleg Bart products; remember when there were bootleg T-shirts being sold in kiosks and such? I believe that is why in Simpsons merchandise, Bart's shirt is blue, it was to distinguish the real merchandise from the unlicensed merchandise.

Nah, it was national---I was living near Chicago in 1990, and it was all over the Windy City's radio stations. :-p

I think the "Deep Deep Trouble" music video had the best animation of any Simpsons production EVER. PERIOD.

I concur with the animation comments on "Deep Deep Trouble" (directed by Greg Vanzo, the founder of Rough Draft BTW), a surprisingly decent song to listen to. I'm still surprised this was probably the earliest thing Anivision, the off-model Simpsons overseas studio (Remember Matt complaining about the pupils in the commentaries? It was usually their episodes he always pointed that out) ever did on the Simpsons. What hadn't they turned something out like THAT before their demise in season 10?

Heck, I think it's better than "Do The Bartman"'s video, and that was also a feast to behold animation-wise (can't complain on Brad Bird man)!
