I see this all the time, especially concerning He-Man (which I found pretty flakey) and the like. Fortunately, few folks wax poetic about Care Bears, Get-Along Gang and other such horrors (The Little Clowns of Happy Town--arrghh! could any kid really enjoy that?). Action adventure shows, no matter how lame, tend to stick in the mind and heart far longer than the cutesy kiddie filler. I like that.

Yes, that scares me, too. Every generation thinks the cartoons they grew up on rocked and frowns upon the cartoons of the next generation, for the most part. I mean, there are cartoons in every time I can find that I enjoy, but I do think that more animation in the 80s sucked than ruled.

It also scares me that in the future, these kids will be moderators of sites like this and will be running Pokemon and Digimon message boards!! AAAAAHHHHHGGGGHHHHH!!!!

I dread that day. Thankfully some of the cartoons of our day, such as BATMAN, ae considered by MANY generations to be some of the best stuf fout there. Hopefully when today's kids grow up, they'll realize that all those Pokemon and Digimon shows were just 20 minute commercials.

I am sure every parent (and animation company) feels that way about cartoons! If people can grow up and think that He Man and and GI Joe were really that good, and if I can grow up thinking that Land of the Lost and such was good, the kids today will grow up thinking those cartoons are good.

Now, what gets me is all these adults today stocking up on today's Star Wars toys, as if they will ever be as valueable as the old toys. If you want to invest in toys, get the crap toys that kids are interested in today and you will be able to sell them for a mint when they grow up and get all nostolgic.

Yeah, my rents have a bunch of old junk in the basement from their childhood. There are alot of cartoons that I'l always big, even those from before my childhood. But every generation has their bad cartoons.

I will never look back and say that action man man, max steele and digimon were ever that good. It would just be a lie, although I will tell the youngens about shows like BB, PATB, and other goodies of the day.

The thing with Batman is that it's got a number of established elements like a hero with resources, a vehicle, sidekicks and colorful villains developed over the years. Early episodes of Gargoyles featured the use of a custom motorcycle and helicopter that both became toys.

That said, I think there's a more agressive attempt to sell things through Digimon than with Pokemon. How can you sell more of a particular digimon? Involve 2 characters of the same sex and add in something like "love arrows", "hearts beating as one", etc. Which I like. But then they have to pander to traditional values and you get a crap crap crap ending. I'm hoping they don't pull that on the season 3 kids b/c Takato and "Henry" are cute cute cute.

Better yet get the toys that get pulled off the shelf quikly like Racoons, War Planets/Shadow Raiders after 20 or so years they will be so rare their worth will go up.

You know, I remember back when I thought shows like 'Space Ghost', 'Land of the Lost' and others from the early 70's thru the early 80's were just great. But I watch them now and just laugh at both myself and them. Sure, when I was 5 years old and would kick back to watch 'Herculoids' it WAS the greatest thing out there. But now...well, hopefully the current generation of 'pokekids' will feel the same way.
BUT...a couple years ago I got my 13-year-old nephew hooked on the original 'Jonny Quest' and now (he's 16) I've got him hooked on 'Invader Zim'. Plus he's always sat and watched 'Batman' and the others with me as well. So at least there's 1 kid out there who didn't get sucked-up into the whole 'Poke-Digi-Max Steele' craze.

I don't invest in such things. Maybe I should, especially considering how much the old Star Wars toys can go for, but I just can't bring myself to get into it, to keep up on the latest toys and stuff. But if somebody can, I think they got a good thing going!

Man, they are still the greatest thing out there...if you want a GOOD LAUGH! Herculoids is kinda painful to watch now, but Space Ghost is still awesome, if only because it is so unintentionally funny. I really would buy episodes of that on DVD. And Land of the Lost...well, that show was really good for the budget it had. And did you ever notice that they had a lot of quality talent working on the show? Many talents that worked on the original Star Trek series worked on Land of the Lost. I think the stories were good, if somewhat campy, and were fairly intelligent for the target audience. I got the DVD from Rhino and hope they put out more.

Nope.

We had our crap toons in our youth, and don't anybody tell me that Transformers was less aggressively marketed than Pokemon. I spent tons of dollars on Transformers trading cards, stickers and toys as a youth. If Transformers were hot now, I don't doubt there would be dozens of video games. Don't anybody tell me that My Little Pony, with half a gazillion hair colours and different pedigrees and skin colours was any different than Pokemon or Digimon.

Hey, I liked Transformers and He-Man and Voltron, but guys...they sucked. In fact, Voltron sucked even worse than Pokemon. That's not an opinion, it's a FACT. Pokemon at least has SOME variation in stories, and not every episode ends the same way. I watched 20 episodes of Voltron recently, and they had less character development than 5 episodes of Pokemon. Voltron also lacks the savvy pop-culture references of Pokemon, and the dialogue translation is purty bad.(Okay, Form Blazing Sword was the coolest nonsensical weapon ever, but STILL...) Even Keith's "And I'll Form the Head!" line couldn't win me over 20 episodes of sheer sameness.

He-Man is just as bad. It's an action show undercut by bizarre talking animals and a general Smurf cuteness that just seemed wrong.

I mean, I can understand it if you hate cute animals and think robots and he-men are generally "cooler looking" than critters that make weird sounds, but there's no denying poor plotting and poor dialogue. And they were AWFUL!

That's not to say I don't like them. Heck, I like pro-wrestling, so it just goes to show I have a fondness for junk. But DO I know junk when I see it. And 90% of the cartoons we loved as kids were pretty much junk.

Parents that go, "I'd never let my kid watch that show because it's SOOOO bad," never fly over my approval radar. As long as I don't have to watch the show with the kid regularly (maybe once to scan for content--make sure it doesn't have racist or discriminatory messages, etc.), then they can go ahead and watch it till they get sick of it.

Your are right... The Pokémon games are generally good but I just find Monster Rancer better oh and they are both far better then the crap Transformers game that came out for the C64.

Yhea but sometimes you'll have to sit down and watch it with them. I find hiding a minidisk player on you while you watch is a good trick you can lissen to cool tunes while pretending to have interest in the show.
