This is the talkback thread for Marshall and Kennedy Update "Tintin" and "The Last Airbender" Status.
Looks like both films are gearing up to be filmed. "The Last Airbender" should be interesting to see.

You realize how hard it is to come up with an original idea for a film, right?
Plus, the last Tintin film that was based directly on the source material came out nearly 40 years ago, so I don't see why it's "unnecessary" to make the first new Tintin film in over 35 years.

An original premise is hard to come up with if that's what you meant by "idea", but an original intellectual property is far easier to come up with.
The one made in the 70s and the much older Tintin films weren't Hollywood adaptions like the upcoming Spielberg/Jackson trilogy.Plus, the last Tintin film that was based directly on the source material came out nearly 40 years ago, so I don't see why it's "unnecessary" to make the first new Tintin film in over 35 years.
Besides, I think Hollywood as a whole needs to come up with some original concepts that can possibly withstand the test of time rather than a bunch of blatant, soulless cash-grab adaptions that'll probably be forgotten within a few years from now.

If foreigners can come up with plenty of original intellectual properties, then so could America, esp. Hollywood. It's just that Hollywood is relying on all kinds of remakes, esp. ones based upon anime and other foreign media properties, for their tentpole/event-status movies at this very point in time.
I'd like to see you create some cartoon characters, develop their personalities, figure how they work with other characters, and basically form the world they live in. This is why it takes years to develop an idea into a series. Adapting someone else's material is much easier, since all of that stuff has been done for you.

I already did that. It'll never be made, of course, since I don't know anyone in the industry, but it's not hard to come up with ideas. I would hope the problem lies on executives not wanting to take a risk rather than lack of talent, since I made up about four different varying series. Still, maybe these movies will turn out to be good... though the track record isn't in their favor, obviously.
My reluctance for the Avatar movie is still up there (on whether it'll be good or bad), but I strangely have some inner hope for the TinTin flicks. I suppose it's just nice to see that guy get another break in the media industry.

I'm also kind of worried about the Last Airbender movies. I know that the creators are working with the people in charge of the movies as well, but I'm just not sure how well the different elements of bending will look in live-action as apposed to the artwork in the show. I could honestly see it go either way, but that would also require more information which they obviously can't get out at this point of time. So it's pretty much just a wait and see kind of situation.
You think that's bad? I've created an epic EIGHT series tale, each series using a slightly different genre of storytelling.
Which is why I've decided to go into writing novels as opposed to making these as cartoons (though, if all goes well, at least one of them might be one day)...

I read the recent news in here of who`s subjected to play in the film, but my above comment was made before I read it. Since I don`t know any of them (some being unknowns, of course), I can`t say how they will do. Though I am a bit irritated on the lack of Asians actors thus far.
