    Efeminine Males in Western Fiction

    Like This Thread!
We have seen them in Eastern Anime. Do they exist in Western Cartoons? And I mean characters that have done it more than once. To be honest, I thought Double D was female when I first saw Ed, Edd, n Eddy.

I'm pretty sure it's his look and voice combined. It took me a few episodes to actually realize that he was a boy.

It was more Jimmy than anyone else on EEnE that just screams "effeminine" in my book, he does something that the other boys in the cul-de-sac than the other don't do, that is when he isn't getting revenge on the Eds. Double D, I just wrote off as a major unathletic nerd.

We mentioned Edd because he looks kinda like a girl, and many actually mistaken him as such until later. I forgot about Jimmy, who is the deal effeminate here.

It was mostly his voice for me. When I first saw him, I thought his hat was acutally his hair!

Some people claim that when the show first appeared, CN thought the hat was his hair also and put his hair as "tall and greasy" on his bio. But it's just something I've heard.

How do you mistake Double D for a girl when the show is called Ed, Edd and Eddy?

Well, it's pretty easy, believe me. I thought I was crazy when I remembered I thought that...until I saw that many others also thought this. And you should see the Japanese dub! He really does sound like a girl there.

The one that always springs to mind is the guy Mira Nova was supposed to marry. Also Zurg wasn't far from effeminate when throwing tantrums instead of planning to enslave the Universe.

This is a no-brainer: Vernon from the 1987 Ninja Turtles series.

And then there's Him from The Powerpuff Girls.

Of Course! How could I forget about HIM? He wears makeup and does aerobics, for God's sake!

And yet an anime called Cowboy Bebop had a female Name Edward Wong. Like Double D, Viewers were confused about her sex.

Kagetsu, you actually care about Miguzi?

Nermal from Garfield. Though in Western animation, making a dude "girly" is usually done to make you hate the guy. I don't know if this applies to anime, because they have different ideas about masculinity and femininity there.

I don`t think anyone who saw garfield thought nermal was a guy.

That was clearly a female voice.

Nermal is a thin line frankly. He's like Tweety; although they're male, part of their shtick is that they're insanely cute, and many "cute" traits are predominantly feminine, so those characters have always had a puzzling ambiguity.

Without access to PM, I can't really say much about Miguzi here. It's off topic. I'm pushing the "envelop" with this post.

    But yes, for reasons.
