    "Groundbreaking" South Park

    Like This Thread!
Well I went into this with extremely low expectations and I am a South Park fan. That being said it wasn't too bad, at least they managed to make fun of themselves a little.

Now, with that being said. It wasn't that good either. I'm not offended by it, it just wasn't a very good episode. Not very many laughs. Also, it followed almost to a T an article I read in National Lampoon years ago about the F word.

I've counted South Park out before. I mean the day is bound to come that it's just used up all the funny it has. But it's proven me wrong before also. I think we have a few more funny eps coming before it's all over.

The "learn a lesson" ending was the best part cause they were totally making fun of themselves. Also, I like the way they didn't wait until the very end to say the word like you thought they would. They had said it within 2 minutes.

    South Park blazes new trails

Oh, Lawdy. I don't think I'd laughed that hard in a long time. For the first ten minutes I just sat and wheezed laughter until tears rolled out of my eyes. Another one of the Seven Dirties just stopped being taboo.
I like South Park because it's essentially social satire. It does what I like to do with my writing: holds a sociological mirror in your face and says, "You're a [expletive deleted] a-hole!" Everybody got into the act--students, teachers, the principal, Chef, folks on the street. Even Timmy the retarded kid managed to say it!

Of course, after about the sixtieth time the word lost its shock value, and the whole thing about Chef and the boys travelling to Vegas to find British people (WTF?) is about where the plot dragged for me. I didn't quite get the whole thing about cursing and the black plague being connected or the knights frozen in ice awakened by the spread of curse words. And Randy Marsh's assertion that after a while the whole s-word thing got boring was pretty spot-on. Plus a look at the double standard that dictates gays/minorities can use self-depriciating slurs but whites/straights can't. All in all, a solid B-plus effort from Parker and Stone.

I was reminded of the hoo-rah-hah over NYPD Blue using the "d"-word on air several years back...and now I've heard it tossed about on Felicity, which although it airs at 8 p.m. seems to be a show for older women and prepubescent girls!

I still think they missed a good joke by not having a caricature of George Carlin, though ("People who say four-letter words have lost their shock value just aren't usin' enough of em!"). But they did whack Drew Carey...

Yeah, that was my wife's favorite part! And you're right, there should have been some type of homage to Carlin.

So, it really cracked you up, huh? I think that most of my laughs were in the first ten minutes also, but it just didn't do it for me like the first couple Mr. Hankey eps.

So in conclusion, [the expletive], not very funny, a talking piece of [the expletive in quesiton], damn funny.

Oh yeah, the part where the teachers were trying to explain how the word could be used was hilarious.

You don't? I thought you did, especially since you faithfully watch Daily Show.

Exactly. "SELF-depriciating." It's not hurting anyone else when we **** say "****". When other people say it, on the other hand, it's usually meant as an insult. There are exceptions though. If it's a close friend who you know is saying it jokingly, it's ok. Otherwise, I don't see why you'd wanna say those words yourself anyway. What's the fascination?
