Rob Zombie's 'The Haunted World of El Superbeasto'

Has anyone else been excited for this film? It is a traditionally animated X rated comedy film in the vein of Ralph Bakshi or John K. Paul Giamatti voices the villain Dr. Satan, and Rosario Dawson and Brian Poeshen lend their voices to lead characters as well. Not to mention, the film is being directed by Mr. Lawrence (the voice of Plankton from Spongebob) and a slew of ex Disney animators are working on it. Here are some pics from Cartoon Brew of the yet to be released film...

To sum this up...it looks like a rockstar version of Mucha Lucha converted from Flash to traditional animation.
Lavender... it's not violet (blue wouldn't have it) and it aint royal. But it's still purple.

That one is going to be fun in fact I heard the animators from Disney are working on the film and Rob said they're excited to do something dirty.

Judging from that article, it seems that the production of this film had been derailed somewhat by budget cuts, leading to a necessity for overseas animation. I'm guessing the final product will vary wildly in animation direction.

I thought Rob Zombie said it was completed?

I finally watched it this morning and have no idea what to think. There were some big laughs but it was sooooo over-the-top and incredibly silly and I'm not sure if it was in a good way or not.

Me and my wife didn't even finish it. I don't even understand, I was so looking forward to it, and thought I'd be just the type it was aimed at, and yet I barely cracked a smile in the 20 minutes I did watch.

I'm yet another person who was very disappointed by it. Despite all the talented artists that worked on it, it just wasn't funny. It was way too juvenile. It seems obvious that a movie like this would be juvenile, but somehow it just doesn't work for me, unlike, say, "Step Brothers."

I'm bothered by the fact that Rob Zombie was even able to make it. There are so many people out there with great ideas for movies that don't get the chance to make them, and yet he got to hire a dream team of animation veterans like Jim Smith, Lynne Naylor etc, and actors like Paul Giamatti, and he squandered it all on such an unfunny script.

It's as if the writers thought that being dirty is funny by itself. Lines like "you're crushing my t***s" or scenes like the one where Dr. Satan is on the toilet aren't remotely amusing. And the character of Beasto himself was the most annoying of all. He was just so one-note. Okay, we get it, he's a sleazy perv.

The only part I thought was funny was the Schoolhouse Rock parody.

I have a review to sum up my thoughts on the movie, but the review is NSFW, as a precaution: http://myvioletsunday.blogspot.com/2...perbeasto.html

This had a lot of potential that was just thrown down the toilet. I think though that the movie is at least decently entertaining (in a mediocre sort of way) for a one time showing... but I could never watch it again.

^ I agree with your review pretty much to the letter. I am going to give it another viewing though because I wasn't giving it my full attention the first time. It could possibly be one of those movies you have to watch a couple times to appreciate it, but I don't really think there's anything below the surface.

Man, I knew the movie was going to be like that. Just by looking at the trailer, I felt like the film was trying to hard to be all up in your face of how edgy it is.

And I was hopping something better when I hear the name "Rob Zombie" name in it.

Looks, erm, very targeted towards the adult male audience.
    Made me uncomfortable.

I think I'll pass, but it doesn't look bad or anything.

I was waiting awhile for the film to come out, but when I saw it...I didnt know if I shouldve laughed or cried when I saw it. But my bro wasnt really keen on the film, he thought Zombie tried to hard to make his own ren and stimpy.

    this is kind of late

I saw this on Starz/VOD and watched it on a whim, and I soon regretted it. I saw some of the designs and figures and stores and I was sort of interested by the main character looking like a luchador since I'm a fan of wrestling and lucha-libre. I also loved Mucha Lucha.

Just because you can make an animated movie full of outrageous violence, sex, naughty language, and nudity doesn't make it cool, edgy, funny, or good.

Its really not funny. Some of the characters and lines are just so random and thrown in that they aren't funny. I get the similarities to Bakshi and things like that, but man it was just too much. None of it was really funny.

I think if you are a fan of Drawn Together you would love this show. Its the exact same type of humor.
