C&C - The Simpsons - "TreeHouse of Horror XVIII" (Nov 4,2007)

    Like This Thread!

If that scared you, then don't bother tuning into The Simpsons next Sunday, as they return with JABF16 Treehouse Of Horror XVIII. Three spine-tingly-dingling tales of terror are to be told over the course of just 22 minutes! That is, we hope so. As long as the writers don't put action over halloweeny horror, these three segments should work out well. Just how scary do you think they sound?

"The frightfest begins in “Mr. and Mrs. Simpson” as Homer and Marge leave for what appears to be an ordinary day. But Homer is living a double life as a secret agent, and he is assigned to eliminate Kent Brockman. When a mysterious woman blocks Homer’s shot and tries to kill Brockman herself, Homer finds that his competition “hits” a little too close to home.

In “E.T. Go Home,” Bart and Lisa come to the aid of Kodos the space alien, who’s hiding from the government. Kodos asks them to help him obtain a long list of devices so he can reconnect with his home planet, but his intentions prove to be anything but friendly.

In the final Halloween scare, “Heck House,” Bart, Lisa and their friends spend Halloween night pulling pranks on unsuspecting people in Springfield. But when they go too far, Flanders decides he’s going to spook them straight. Transforming the church into the “Heck House,” Flanders is filled with supernatural power and subjects the children to his wrath of seven deadly sins."

All three segments were written by Marc Wilmore.

And the promo that I'm sure has been the core of all your nightmares over the past few weeks!

Of course. That's sadly predictable at this point. The outlook for the third segment doesn't seem very positive either.

But this is a Treehouse of Horror episode after all. And those have been pathetic for years.

I miss the days when the Treehouse of Horror episodes had wraparound segments, i.e., Bart and Lisa telling stories in their treehouse, Bart, Lisa, and Homer having nightmares from eating too much candy, or Marge telling spooky stories at a Halloween party. That's what the ToH episodes need to get back to using to tie the segments together.

I guess that was easier to do when the episodes were a little bit longer. Nowadays these "Halloween" segments go by incredibly fast. Nowadays wraparounds consist of a lame opening (usually with a tacked on Kang and Kodos appearance) where someone complains about how late the episode is airing.

They're actually using Kang and/or Kodos for something besides a quick gag at beginning and/or end of the episode.

Pretty good opening and first segment. Kang getting killed right as he came out of the portal was pretty good along with some other jokes.

The second act was good, but just felt out of place for a ToH, maybe it's just me. However, the third act was really, really good. Between Skinner getting hit by a bus for looking at a Playboy and the seven sins, including Homer mentioning that he turned into spaghetti earlier.

Overall, much, much better than last year. My only gripe is that it didn't air last week or on Halloween evening.

The blood in the champagne tower gag was great because the guy didn't make some lame comment after he was shot, unlike 99.99% of the characters on the show, such as Skinner at the end of act 2.

EDIT: Wow, lame. They used that same song in a musical montage years ago in the Jimmy Neutron movie. And it was much better there.

Yeah yeah yeah, Harry Plopper again.

I'd heard Plopper was going to be on the show this season. Too bad it's not an in-continuity episode.

Edit: Wow, that ending was lame, even by the last few season's standards.
