In Honor of the Transformers Movie: Which was your fave TF series?

    Like This Thread!
This is actually spawned from a debate I'm having with a certain other member of TZ. Basically, what was your favorite TF series?

Basically, this stems from an argument I'm having with a certain other member (whom I shall not name and I hope doesn't go flaming this). Basically, he says Beast wars stunk. I disagree: I know that a number of fans love BW. So, I'd just like to see how it fairs with TZ, as well as the other Transformers series.

    Answer truthfully, please

    Cybertron, no question.

And no, Beast Wars wasn't that good.

Heh, glad you decided to make a thread after our debates. Gives me a chance to talk about all of this in public.

    Quoted for freaking truth.

Cybertron was hands down the best Transformers series. Easily captured all the best aspects of the franchise.

Oh... and if you want reasons why I don't like Beast Wars, well... there's just something about it.

Can't really explain, it was just too freaking different to me.

Beast Wars for me. G1 was before my time by a few years.

It's a bit amusing how the people who decry BW can't actually provide reasons why they didn't like it.

Beast Wars still is my favorite TF series. Yeah, it broke the mold with the animals thing, but that made it so great. The characters were awesome: Optimus Primal channeled the otiginal Pop OP to a T, Cheetor the youngester of the group who grew up throughout the series, Rattrap, the wisecracking bot who came through in a pinch, Rhinox the token big guy with a soft spot for nature and Dinobot. Dinobot was easily the best character in the series. loved his interaction with Rattrap and his death scene was second only to Optimus Prime's death scene in the movie.

The bad guys were also easily likable: this version of megs was less about power and more about being sly and devious. Tarantulus was a better traitor than Starscream any day. Waspinator was comic relieve, but you never got tired of him getting slagged. Black Arachnia was my second favorite character, just for deviousness. Actually, I loved the fact everyone had thier own agenda and Megatron knew it. He just let everyone do thier own thing, only intervening when it conflicted with his own plans. It wasn't a "we're all evil, so we'll follow you obediently. It was more of a "we'll follow you for now until we find a way to stab you in the back" deal.

The whole alien arc throughout the show was awesome, yet it was lacking since they didn't get a chance to finish it the way they wanted. The being in the past thing was awesome, cause it tied in to the original series: when BW Megatron blew up the original Optimus Prime's head, my inner fanboy fainted numerous times. Always looked forwards to all of Megatron's schemes to gain the upper hand in the war. Ravage showing up was another awesome moment.

The first season was sort of weak, but the final two made up for it. Compared to other series: the original is feeling dated, so I can't really watch it anymore and most of the later anime series are too, well, generic. they had no umph and reused too much animation. It was ok, but it wasn't great. Cybertron was definitely better than Armada and Energon, but I wouldn't say it was the best.

Beast Wars, on the other hand, blitzed me with a TV show and a matching set of shiny toys right when I was smack dab in the center of the target demographic. No points for guessing which one I went for.

I don't care if I didn't figure out the dialogue was aped (heh; aped) from Hamlet until 8 years after the fact, I still loved it.

    Beast Wars!

No other Transformers series had the heart or sophistication mixed with just enough slapstick to keep it from being trite. =)

Well, I should say that I haven't watched a TF show since the one that had Kicker in it.

I have to be honest and say Beast Wars is first, followed by the classic G1/G2. Until I see some arguments against it I don't have much to add to Funkatron's comments at the moment, aside from that Beast Wars Megatron has to be the best version of the character. G1 Megs is awesome but BW Megs had tons of cunning and unhinged ambition to match. The third season was by far the best due because of the G1 ties and everything coming together at the end. The series finale with Megatron finding the Decepticon flagship was a very good idea.

Unfortunately they had to tarnish that continuity with the pretentious and disgustingly bad Beast Machines, I refuse to acknowledge any of what went on in that show. Transformers as pro-nature hippies = no thanks. Unlike Beast Wars there was just about nothing to identify it as a transformers show.
I would suggest that it's not the medium, but the quality of perception and expression, that determines the significance of art. But what would a cartoonist know? -Bill Watterson

While I've heard good things about Cybertron/Galaxy Force, I haven't seen enough of it to make a proper judgment. The same goes for G1, although the movie is 80's cheese at it's finest. So, Beast Wars it is. Dinobot's death remains one of the saddest in cartoon history: "Tell my tale to those who ask it. Tell it truly, the evil deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly. The rest... is silence."

For your information, I gave a reason.
You gave a vague indication as to why you dislike something. You're entitled to your opinion but I expect more of an explanation than that before I buy into it. :P

G1 and Robots in Disguise for me.

I mean, aside from Side Burn chasing Kelly's red sports cars, and the bungling failures that are the Predacons, RID gets my vote for the funniest TF Series there is. When he chases red sports cars, Side Burn's the Autobot version of Brock!

Beast Wars! Honestly, it was just the first Transformers series where I could easily tell all the characters apart. Partially because I've always liked animals more than cars and partially because I was really young when the previous shows came out and there were a whole lot of characters.
Saturday Morning is not just part of the week. It's a state of mind.

My favorite Transformers series would have to be Beast Wars, as it had a nice mix of action, comedy, and drama.

It being crap with annoying characters and a lame story, not to mention overly cheezy writing?

Look, I can't speak for others, but it's been what, a decade since I saw Beast Wars? I'm not exactly in position to write up an essay critiquing it at this moment.

I can remember hating it. I remember the characters annoyed me, and the dialogue made me groan.
