Animation Domination: Family Guy - #5ACX04: "Road to Rupert" (Spoilers)

    Like This Thread!
Family Guy is back with all new episodes, to divide fanboys and fangirls throughout the nation (and Canada).

    TONIGHT'S EPISODE:
Brian accidentally sells Rupert at a garage sale. Meanwhile, Peter loses his license and must be driven around by Meg.

Family Guy airs at 9:00, right after King of the Hill.

    Talkback rules:
    - NO POLITICAL TALK. You can discuss the events in the episode, but the first sign of a debate over political issues will likely be targetted by the mods and dealt with.

    - The same goes for senseless bashing. Negative opinions are perfectly fine, but if you think you can just walk into a thread and say "Family Guy is just a rip-off of The Simpsons, F-----", then you can forget it. Spare it for one of the millions of "What do you think of Family Guy" threads that have been posted here long before you registered, and long after you leave this site. And long after this site crumbles to the ground. Robots will generate discussion when mankind falls.

Well... somebody's sure eager to get the head start on talkbacks, eh?

EDIT: I'll keep this closed until an hour or two before it starts, then I'll reopen it. Just for the future, that's usually when talkbacks in GA are started. We once had a problem with people posting Simpsons talkback threads a good day before the episode premiered, and it was getting to be a race to see who could make it first, and thus we had multiple talkbacks. That's why we have the unofficial rule. Thanks!

    EDIT 2: Back open.

    Oh yes, this will rock.

    Zack and Zeke

It's kind of like ET, if you take out all of the emotion and turn it into a silly webcomic that's updated on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Pretty good...barely any cutaways(though the ones they did were good), and a coherent story. I love Peter's attempts to amuse himself..."There is no Peter, only Zuul!" And My Black Son.

The whole Brian/Stewie thing has been working well this part, hopefully it won't go bad like it has so many times in the past.

My Black Son was a surprise, it sounded like a Charles in Charge type show at first.

    Spongebob!

    MEG SMASH!!!

And there's the token "obnoxiously long cutaway" for the episode.

    ...I've got nothing.

Stewie playing the Jerry Mouse part in Anchors Aweigh...genius. Stewie has honestly become the most likeable character on this show, ironic given what his original role as evil mastermind was.

As cool as it was to see Stewie thrown into An American in Paris (a rare long cutaway that actually worked out right) it doesn't come close to watching Meg beat some guy senseless.

The episode was pretty boring for me, though i did love the conclusion of Meg and Peter.

"Did we just hijack a car?"

The conclusion with Peter and Meg was great, particularly watching Peter cause havoc in the car.

A good episode overall. Even though that one "cutaway" (wasn't really a cutaway, technically) was really long, I found it genuinely entertaining. And very well-animated. Like, really. It reminded me of Fleischer. Also, if they had to digitally remove something (I'm not really familiar with the original), it was seamless.

I wish they did more with the Star Trek parody, though... there wasn't really a joke.

Some of the racial humor also seemed a little uncomfortable.

Did anybody else notice the cover of their straight-to-DVD movie during the scene where Brian accidently sells Rupert? I guess they had a few too many copies lying around the house. That's the only explanation I can think of.

Ya know I always did wanted to see the one scene with Jerry Mouse in Anchors' Aweigh, so I enjoyed this nice substitute for it. That said, I got a smile on my face when Peter and Meg actually ended on good notes, even if it's in secret (then again, God only knows if they actually plan to keep this as what little continuity they have *shurgs*).

I really enjoyed it. I thought I was going to be the only person who caught the "Untold Story" DVD, but not so. The "Anchors' Aweigh dance bit was great, but I knew it was coming (thank you FG blog). However, I would have liked to have had Brian do more than be a prop in the number.

Think what you want about last season, but Season 5 is really good.

I enjoyed it, for the most part. First time I actually liked a long cutaway. Also liked Meg beating the crap out of that one guy and Stewie and Brian hijacking the car.

Not the best "Road to" episode, but maybe it's because it wasn't as scenic as the other two? I don't know. I liked Stewie dancing and the skiing at the end (because Stewie's invention was so elaborate).

Maybe the main story felt a little weak to me because I liked the subplot so much. Meg can, indeed, kick butt when she wants.
