    Cliché pairings

    Like This Thread!
What pairings have been done hundreds of times?

Pessimist and optimist - The pessimist will constantly suffer through life while the optimist goes around completely carefree.

Innocent idiot and jerky idiot - The innocent idiot knows nothing, except how to be a nice and moral person. The jerky idiot is oblivious to the fact that he's an idiot, and is annoyed by the innocent idiot's stupidity. The jerky idiot often ignores any good advice the innocent idiot gives him, and lacks common sense.

Well, there's an innocent idiot and a jerky idiot in Catscratch - Waffle and Mr. Blix. FWIW. And as for pessimist/optimist, there's the pessimistic Squidward and optimistic Spongebob - although, since Squidward never gives up on thinking he's an undiscovered genius, I guess he can't be too much of a pessimist, can he?

BTW, Wussycat, you do come up with the most interesting threads. I really enjoy them.

Stupid Person and Evil Person- duos where one character is somewhat good natured, but hopelessly stupid and the other character is at least somewhat intelligent, but is also pure evil. The evil person often dominates the stupid person. (ex: Billy and Mandy, Ren and Stimpy.)

The Normal Girl and The Popular Boy- The girl has a crush on the boy and it turns out he likes her too, for a short time anyway. Things never work out, and The Girl always ends up with her best guy friend who has had a crush on her since the show started.

Mature girl and immature boy - The mature girl is much more intelligent than the immature boy. She is always calm and collected whenever she isn't angry or stressed out,
in contrast to the immature boy being more outgoing. The immature boy has bad manners and disgusting traits that the mature girl dislikes. It's very common for the immature boy to be sexist and/or chauvinistic.

The Idiot and the Jerk/Smart Guy

e.g. Ren and Stimpy, Pinky and the Brain, Cow and Chicken, Billy and Mandy, Zim and Gir, Hubie and Bertie.

    The Boy/Girl/Boy or Girl/Boy/Girl pairing.
In just about every show (animated or live action) staring a kid in Middle School or High School has the Main Boy character's two best friends one boy and one girl, and vice verca.

Having a diverse taste in animation, is a heck of a lot more fun then only liking one type of cartoon in my opinion.

Regular Boy/Obnoxious Girl - The girl treats the boy (the title character, usually) like something she stepped in and can't quite get off her shoe, but she secretly loves him. For some reason, the viewers are invited to support these kinds of pairings...but I know better.
I feel that a big problem with today's society is that we don't listen to our fellow man -- especially when I'm talking.

    Good Cop / Bad Cop
Good Cop / Somewhat effeminate Cop...
    Normal Person / Wacky Idiot
Talk Show host / sidekick that laughs at anything
Oh, no, no. I’m not in the group yet. No, I’m afraid I just blue myself.

"Toonces, the Driving Cat / the cat who could drive a car, He drives around, all over the town / Toonces, the Driving Cat!"

I guess Toonces can drive. Just not very well.

People and their beloved pets, they come on, they do little stunts, they do little tricks... This is only an exhibition, this is not a competition. Please, as always, ladies and gentlemen... no wagering.

Idiot Hero and the Sane Sidekick(s)- This is common one, and can also be reversed, usually the Hero is such a big idiot that the sidekick does all the work and doesn't get the credit for it. Inspector Gadget, The Tick, and BoBoBo-Bo B-BoBo are examples

Hero/Bad Guy love relationship- two people from different worlds trying to have a relationship while being caught up on their jobs and still remembering their duties.
Technology will be mankind's downfall someday.
