    Game shows in cartoons?

    Like This Thread!
Another poll thread, with another opening sketch-thingy...

    ---

(Open on: a game show set, with fiddle music playing...)

ANNOUNCER: It's time for "The Fanboy Feud"! Introducing the Justice League of America---Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and the Flash! (Shot of: the JLAers standing in various poses against a living room set, before walking out to the podiums) Ready for action! And the Simpsons---Homer, Bart, Marge, Lisa and Maggie! (Shot of: the Simpsons, also in similar poses to the JLA, before going to their podiums) On your marks---let's start... the *FANBOY FEEEEUUUUD*! (Audience applauds) With the star of "Fanboy Feud", *Braaaainatra*!

(Brainatra, wearing a cheesy game show host's suit, walks out onstage...)

BRAINATRA: Welcome to "The Fanboy Feud!" Let's start the game... (goes over to the JLAers side) OK, we've surveyed 100 geeks online. Today's question: name five things that fans online complain about in today's animation.

(The JLAers mumble among themselves, then...)

SUPERMAN: (Giving the group's answer) Uh, "excessive cookie-cutter CGI animated movies"?

BRAINATRA: Hmm, "excessive number of of cookie-cutter CGI animated movies." (Yelling to the game board) Survey *SAYS*!

(Out of a list of five categories, the #5 one flips over to reveal that as the correct answer; a "ding" noise is heard)

BRAINATRA: Excellent work, JLA! (To Batman) So, Batman, or should I say "*The* Batman", how're things in that "The Batman" show going? Do you still have a hankering for nachos? (Audience laughs; Batman keeps a stoic look, but glances toward a guy in the audience eating nachos, and gives a small sigh, and licks his lips slightly) OK, enough jovial stuff---back to the game. JLA, what else is a common complaint among online fans about animation today?

(The JLA converses again, then gives an answer)

SUPERMAN: Uh, "no Justice Society cartoon"?

BRAINATRA: Survey SAYS! (A "buzz" sound is heard). Oooh, sorry, that is not on the top five...

WONDER WOMAN: (Annoyed) Flash, you idiot!

FLASH: (Holding a pile of old JSA comics) What? *I* think we need a JSA cartoon... (gets lightly smacked by Wonder Woman)

BRAINATRA: OK, let's go over to the Simpsons family. (To the Simpsons) So, Homer, how's tricks?

HOMER: Oh, things are just fine, just fine...mm-hmm... (looks panicked) Oh, who am I kidding? We're trapped in the 87th season and those stupid writers are out of ideas! They want me to do an episode where I write open source software that deletes the Internet, gets "Desperate Housewives" canceled and somehow starts war between the U.S. and England, with special guest star Steve Jobs! I don't even know what "open source software" *is*! (Sobs) Oh, merciless Fox execs, why are you so cruel?! (Sobs)

MARGE: Oh, Homer, buck up---or do you want that baby with the football-shaped head to take over our timeslot?

    HOMER: (Weepy sounding) No... *sniff*.

MARGE: Then cheer up then. I'm sure that episode can't be too bad... well, at least not as bad as that episode where you had a crayon stuck in your brain... or where you trashed the town and moved it five miles down the road... or the one where I got breast implants... (makes her "murmuring" noise) Well, let's just play this game.

BART: Yeah man---our show's just as good as ever.

    LISA: No it's not.

    BART: Yes it is.

    LISA: No it's not.

    BART: Is!

    LISA: Not!

    BART: Is!

    LISA: Not!

BRAINATRA: Very well---name something that fans online complain about cartoons today?

HOMER: Hmm... let's see... (sniffs) name something those Internet nerds argue about... uh... (hears Lisa and Bart arguing over whether or not their show's going downhill)(Annoyed) Hey, knock it off you two! We need to come up with an answer! (Bart and Lisa stop arguing) Uh... oooh, I know! "Not enough Woody Woodpecker cartoons"! Because Woody's... funny. Not "Woody-on-'Cheers'" funny, but you know...

MARGE: Oh, *Homer*... maybe we should come up with a different answer?

BRAINATRA: (Quickly spoken) Sorry, too late! (to the board) Survey SAYS! (A "buzzer" noise is heard) Sorry, Simpsons... (back to the JLA's side) (Hears a bell ring) Yikes---only time for one more response. JLAers, if you can name something else that fans complain about cartoons, you'll win the prize!

SUPERMAN: Hmm... (Batman whispers something into his ear) I know! "Superman's not as realistic as Batman and therefore isn't as cool"! (realizes) HEY!

BRAINATRA: "Superman's not as realistic as Batman"... for the win! (It comes up on the list at #3, with a "ding" noise. Bells go off and lights flash) And with that, it looks like the JLA *WINS*!

    (The audience applauds)

SUPERMAN: (Annoyed) What do you mean, I'm "not as realistic"?! You run around in a bat-costume fighting some stupid *clown* and can jump from rooftop to rooftop without breaking your legs! Where's the realism in *that*?!

BATMAN: (Also annoyed) Well, at least it's more realistic than someone who can fly through space without needing to *breathe* and fights some "super-genius" who's apparently too dumb to cure his own baldness!

(Superman and Batman continue to argue, getting the other JLAers involved; over on the Simpsons side...)

BART: Nice one, Dad. Maybe if you named a cartoon from *this century*, we'd have won!

HOMER: Hey, don't talk that way about Woody!

BART: Why, is *he* going to be a guest star on that "war between US and England" episode, too?

HOMER: Why you little--- (Homer chokes Bart; Marge and Lisa sigh, while Maggie sucks on her pacifier)

BRAINATRA: Well, guess this show *did* live up to its name after all. Thanks for watching, folks; stay tuned for "The $25,000 Fan Site" and "What's My Favorite Line?", next on most of these Toonzone stations. (Waves at the camera) Good night, everybody!

(Pan out to see the JLAers still arguing, while Homer continues to choke Bart, as the theme music plays...)

ANNOUNCER: This is *Braaaainatra*, speaking for "The Fanboy Feud", a Mark Goodson Internet Production!

    ---

Today's question: what cartoons have shown or mentioned game shows?

    To start:

    The Simpsons:
    - "The Springfield Squares", a parody of "The Hollywood Squares", has been seen several times.
    - The Simpsons went on a Japanese game show in that episode where they go to Japan.

    South Park:
    - A game show appears in the episode involving the cow cult/Cartman tries to ride a bull.

    The Flintstones:
    - Barney goes on the game show "The Prize is Priced", a parody of the original 60's primetime version of "The Price Is Right". During the episode, another prehistoric game show is mentioned, "Beat the Sundial" (a play on the early television game show "Beat the Clock").

Think a few Kellogg's commercials during Yogi Bear's original run show him parodying the late 50's game show "What's My Line" (with Huck as the host).

    Looney Tunes:

    - A Looney Tunes short is entitled "What's My Lion?", a play on "What's My Line".
    - The short "The Ducksters" parodies the radio version of the game show "Truth or Consequences"
    - The short "Wideo Wabbit" parodied Groucho Marx's game show "You Bet Your Life"

In House of Mouse, there was a Goofy short that featured a game show called "Smarty Britches"

Also, in "A Pup Named Scooby Doo" there was an ep where Shaggy and Scooby were on a game show where kids would fish for letter in a word or phrase. Not sure what it was called, however.

In "Maya and Miguel", the title characters appear on a game show which vaguely resembles American Gladiators, only for kids.

In animaniacs there was a game show episode with Aristotle where whenever he said the secret word which was "yes" he'd get bashed on the head.

In the FOP episode "Apartnership" there was a "Dating Game" parody.

In Jimmy Neutron's "Win, Lose or Kaboom!" the whole episode revolved around an intergalactic game show.

Great sketch, Brainatra. The answers given by the JLA were especially funny and all too true...

Rocko's Modern Life had an episode in which Heffer plays (and botches) a series of game show parodies (Family Feud, Pyramid, Wheel of Fortune).

Re: TV Game Shows In Cartoons

In one episode of Ducktales, this was when Donald Duck was serving in the U.S. Navy, Donald's nephews made medal for him. This medal was actually small mini TV. When they turn it on TV Medal for him had, the TV channel had "Wheel Of Fortune" on, with a female duck version of Vanna White turning the letters. The answer words the spelled out "Ducktales".

Kim Possible had a Hollywood Squares parody in the "Dimension Twist" episode - featuring Drakken dressed kind of like Aquaman, and a parody of the Queer Eye guys. It ruled.
