Man I'm getting tired of hearing this during ads for just about every CGI animated film that comes out nowadays. If someone who farted on the set of a Shrek film works on a new CGI film...well then...we're going to hear "From the makers of Shrek" in all that new film's advertising.
Case in point: "Flushed Away." I just saw a commercial for this film and I'm shocked Dreamworks honestly still thinks saying "From the makers of Shrek" is going to get people into the theatre. I really don't think it matters any more. More fitting would be to say "From the makers of Wallace and Grommit" considering "Flushed Away" is so deeply rooted in the Aardman style.

They're still lugging "Director of The Addams Family.... Get Shorty..... and Men In Black" for Barry Sonnenfeld. Those films are going on 10 years old.
It's going to happen. They want to remind people of past success, no matter how old or how long ago it is. Shrek was huge, and I can see why theyre doing it. Getting old? Probabaly, but it's a film a lot of people saw and are familiar with.
Oh hey the guys who made Shrek made this movie let's go see it it must be good.
At least one phrase has been retired....
"THIS IS THE BEST ANIMATED MOVIE SINCE THE LION KING!!"
I don't want it back either.

Saying "from the makers of SHREK" does more than enough to keep me far away for the film being promoted.

You think Shrek's overrated too heh?Originally Posted by Michael24

Well, I personally was annoyed with the whole "From the makers of SHREK" bit myself when it was clearly a Park/Aardman production. They should've used "From the Academy Award winning producers of Wallace and Gromit: The curse of the were-rabbit!"
Besides, the whole trailer showed it was pure british humour. How does Shrek fit in with british humour?

Yeah I too was very unimpressed by it. The fact that Fiona turns into an ogress sorta defeats the whole point of the ogre getting the girl if you ask me.Originally Posted by Michael24

Not to mention that I personally felt that it screwed over Monster's Inc. for the Academy award.![]()

Neither did I. And I don't think the creators were so keen on it either, I think that's why she turned back into a human for a while in the second movie. You have to admit, she is better to look at as a human.Originally Posted by Dr.Pepper
Anyhoo, I think the reason they say "From the makers of Shrek...", is because people aren't going to remember the studio's name. People seem to care more about what they did, instead of who they are. Pixar movie commercials do the same thing.

Because people that post on message boards know these things when it comes to studios and what not. The average joe that doesn't stay up to date on entertainment topics only knows what ads tell them. Shrek and Madagascar made millions extremely quickly, so they milk that.
Years from now, hopefully, we'll remember more the Pixar movie than stuff like Shrek and other that are filled with pop-culture reference that will be then dated.Originally Posted by tb4000
They may make millions quick but I get the impression that Pixar flicks have more staying power and stay on the screens longer.

At least they keep their plugging up to date by refering to a more recent movie. Shrek is so old, compared to what's out now. The worst cgi movie today is at least at the level of Shrek, if not a bit better.Originally Posted by Dudley
Studios like to tout Oscar winners shamelessly.
For instance, you will never see another Ghibli film released in the states without hearing "From the studio that brought you the award winning, Spirited Away."
