    Top 25 Greatest Prime-Time Cartoons...as decided by IGN (uh-oh)

    Like This Thread!
    http://tv.ign.com/articles/736/736051p1.html

Whenever IGN makes LISTS, their picks have a range of "kinda got some stuff right" to "hideously wrong in every sense." Their latest leans toward the former, but in a place like TZ, there's plenty of room for debate....because this time, they're arranging together their favorite prime-time animated cartoons. And they mean that by absolute definition (Powerpuff Girls is on this list).

Note: is anyone really surprised by #1?

    24. Aqua Teen Hunger Force
    21. Sealab 2021
    19. Venture Brothers
    18. Powerpuff Girls
    15. Spongebob Squarepants
I declare this list as being "teh suck".

Also, I was totally shocked by #1.

What episode is that from? I've seen it, I just can't remember.

Not to crap on The Jetsons or anything but didn't that show pretty much become popular on the Saturday Morning circuit, which they stated aren't featured on the list, after lasting only one season in primetime?

Simpsons being #1 isn't a surprise. I'm not too sure on if the order seems correct among the high ones, but they do belong... that is, 'til I get down to about #8. 'Ren and Stimpy' is debatable as a Top 10. I don't think 'The Critic' is worthy of Top 10 at all. 'Home Movies' isn't either, but I'd put them closer to the Top 10 than 'Critic.' I also think 'Clone Wars' got in because of the connection to 'Star Wars,' but that's just me... I didn't like it, but I'd probably leave it there anyway. Any of the the 11-15 can sub for the aforementioned trio, save for 'The Maxx,' which I don't seem to remember seeing... oh, MTV in '95? 'K, then I definitely haven't seen it, so I don't know.

'Powerpuff Girls' probably would've been a bit higher if not for the post-movie seasons. Ironic that 'Venture Brothers' and 'Johnny Quest' are back-to-back. I'm surprised 'Aqua Teen Hunger Force' wasn't higher, above 'Venture' and closer to 'Space Ghost: Coast-to-Coast."

Finally, if you're basing 'Sealab 2021' on Season 1 only, then yes, it deserves to be in the Top 25. Any more of the series, and I've gotta say no.

Venture Bros should be higher, along with Spawn.

Futurama, Flintsons, and Simpsons seem appropiate for the top 10, though.

PPG should be at least in the top 10.

Seriously. Powerpuff Girls. This was a mild entertainment show at best. Come on.

Aired here last night, the one where Homer gives a course on successful marriage but reveals secrets about his family so Marge throws him out.

It's one of the best animated programs ever made.

The animation and artwork was simple (a throwback to animation's golden age), the writing was top-notch (for the most part), and had Beatles jokes throughout the series' run.

If you ask me, that's nothing short of genius.

"Duckman" didn't even place. Why should I care?

As far as I'm concerned Simpsons deserves the number 1 spot.

I'm skeptical on even calling Clone Wars a TV show. More like a TV showette. Anyway, I might put it on my top 40, but definatly not in my top 10.

The episode that Simpsons picture was from is "Secrets of a Successful Marriage".

Selection isn't TOO bad. Justice League's a good show and all, but I hope that JLU also influenced their decision.

This list is screwy. They say "primetime" cartoons, but the Adult Swim stuff never aired in what would be considered a Primetime slot. Have there even been 25 primetime cartoons in history? The inclusion of the AS stuff makes me think they really meant to say "Top 25 Adult-oriented cartoons", but in that case why is PPG, Spongebob, etc, in there? And if you include those, don't you have to include Avatar? And then what about anime, is that just not being considered at all? Why not just say, "Top 25 Cartoons"?

This list makes no sense, because I have no idea what is eligible, and therefore what could have made the list but didn't.

That's what I was about to say. Venture Brothers (and soon to be Aqua Teens) is the only Adult Swim show to air new episodes during the primetime hours, which are supposed to end at 11PM. Everything else premiered after 11PM, so they shouldn't be considered primetime shows but late-night shows.

And then what about anime, is that just not being considered at all? Why not just say, "Top 25 Cartoons"?
They're saving the anime for a different Top 25 list.

Already mentioned, but I just noticed 'Daria' isn't on the list anywhere. I figure that was MTV's second most popular animated series of all time (behind 'Beavis and Butthead'). So how does it not get a mention?

Also, another vote for 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' needing to be on the list somewhere as well.
