And, just in case you've missed the live-action opening that's been popping up around the internet, FOX is using it as the opening to tonight's ep.
Homer wins a trip to Fox Studios, where he inadvertantly enters a Trading Spouses-type reality show, where he switches Marge with an overbearing wife, while she gets a milquetoast, brow-beaten husband.
This episode is somewhat special, seeing as how Ricky Gervais(of BBC The Office fame) guest stars as the husband, and he also wrote the episode.

Weird quote of the moment
YYYYAAAAAYYYY!!!!!
I was three of the movies before they were dubbed.
I'm going to punch the next person who says "milquetoast" in the face.

This premise sounds somewhat similar to "Helter Shelter" (i.e. the family competes in a reality show), but I hope it ends up better than that episode. We'll know in an hour, won't we?
Izzy Mandelbaum: How 'bout that, huh? The WORLD'S greatest dad. My son made it for me.
Jerry: That's very nice.
Izzy Mandelbaum: The best in the world! Which means I'm better than just number one.
Jerry: Well, I don't know how official any of these rankings really are.

That intro is so awesome.
I can't be the only one that hates what they did to Moe. He's the worst as worst. Worse than Homer and Sideshow Mel combined.
"Hey look it's 2 and half men. You can see the emptizness in Charlie Sheen's eyes". That was probably one of the best quotes this season actually.

The first act was very bad (although Homer's slow-motion jump to the couch was pretty funny -- especially when the sandwich appeared in his hand). I mean, that setup for the Simpsons appearing on a reality show... that's all been done so much before. They can't keep pretending it hasn't. It felt like "Wow, we're making fun of reality shows -- FOX'S reality shows!!! Amazing!!!!"
But the rest was fairly good. I especially liked Homer's "TV show report" -- that was hilarious. "When I woke up, Letterman was talking to Alias." I also liked the cutaway to the guy's son and housemaid at the bar; at first I thought I wouldn't, but the "It only gets worse" line was well-timed.
Not great, but they're getting somewhere. I'd be lying if I said the ending was unpredictable, though. Selma was a twist, I guess.

It's really notable that the first act was terrible (thanks to Moe, Homer, and Sideshow Mel) and then it got better.
Yeah, didn't see Selma coming.
of course, the intro was way better than the episode
the first part dragged on for too long, it should have been something over quick, the rest of the episode just went by in a flash, and nothing really happened, i expected some predictable jokes but nothing it just ended.
The episode ran out of steam in the middle of the second act for me. The first act was hilarious, I disagree with most of you. But when they began to focus on Marge & the British husband, I had little motivation to keep watching. It just kind of went nowhere. And some of the reality TV stuff has been parodied numerous times before, though I DID like the line where the camera man ran out of tape for the heartfelt speech but had plenty of nasty material from earlier.
Oh, but the live action intro is still wicked cool.

You know overal, I'd have to say that Gervais was the best part of this. I could defintley see him writing his own segment with Marge. The dry old british charm with stuff like the three genies and even the song don't seem like normal Simpsons writers stuff. Which is probably a good thing since the other side of the ep with Homer and kids dealing with the other wife weren't funny (except for the Itchie and Scratchy Cartoon and Homer's CSI Miami report). Other funny things included Lenny annoucing his TV, Dan Canstella at the Fox studios, and Patty being with the woman at the end. (Although will that be in continuity? I kind of doubt that, those stupid non continuity bastards).

Moving right along, it was an alright episode. Nothing groundbreaking, the British opening felt a little squished (ironic, since I first saw it on the interweb), but Ricky Gervais is a sick twisted freak.
Looking at the overall episode, there was something ringing in my ear that I saw on South Park a couple of years ago. It was something characters kept on repeating. What was that line?
Oh, yeah.
"Simpsons did it."
What does the X stand for? It's definitely not Extreme. Extreme starts with E.
A wholefully average episode. I don't know, I guess I felt they had too many things tackled on in one half hour show that it felt generally rushed. There wasn't any humor that I truly laughed at either. It's got a solid enough story, so I'll give it that, but overall, I felt very eh with it.

Sideshow Mel needs to go away. Maybe to wherever Dr. Marvin Monroe went while he was "sick" for about 10-11 seasons. Or to wherever Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz dissapeared to after Phil Hartman died.

Trivia: I live in the New Haven area, and I believe that establishment was 'The Playwright':

Glimpsing a piece of my own neighborhood on 'The Simpsons' was my second-biggest thrill in this episode (the biggest, of course, being that terrific live-action opening.)
Interesting episode. I liked the gag with Homer slowly advancing toward the couch as he started watching that big screen. Seeing Dan Castelleneta make an apearance was actually funny, usually when some guest star appears for a second its not funny but this one I liked. Good episode but it went a little too fast for my liking. B.
