    G4's Action Blast

    Like This Thread!
I ventured over to http://www.g4tv.com/shows/index.html and saw they had an image for something called "Action Blast" with the caption "Fast-paced animation featuring Transformers, live action fun with Kaiju"

I'm not sure what Transformers series they're talking about but I know about Kaiju Big Battel. They were featured on AOTS a while back and their site is here: http://www.kaiju.com/
It's basically wrestling except with people in weird costumes.

With Barbed Wire Biscuit trying to take some of AS's viewers, could G4 being setting up Action Blast to be Toonami's rival?

And yeah, they're not video game shows, but hey. It's not The Man Show.

An interesting thing for G4 to do but honestly that channel is pathetic. Some Transformers would do it good perhaps. Especially if it's G1 and/or Beast Wars. However more people get CN than G4 and I doubt this will be competing with Toonami in it's time slot. More likely it'll compete with Miguzi.

G4 should set their sights a little lower first. Maybe compete with something like Toon Disney. Or MTV2. Any network that isn't in the top 25 watched cable networks.

G4 seems to want to step on both SpikeTV and CN's toes. And they are gonna get burned for it.

    Ditto'd.

    CN = 80,000,000 homes

    G4 = .......

Anytime G4 tries to ape a popular programming block or channel, they're not trying to compete with anybody BECAUSE THEY CAN'T. They're simply trying to stay afloat.

G4, for me, is only good for one hour a week. Whoever's managing that network... what happened to TechTV's managers?

Anyhow, I'll likely end up watching this, for I's got no Toonami.

How would G4 legally be able to air any Transformers show? I thought CN and the WB had the rights to all of them? It would be great if they either had G1, or better yet, some of the japanese exclusive series (I'm dreaming, I know). But despite the obvious number of homes difference, I think Toonami needs someone to step on their toes to get back on track.

If they had left most of the Techtv elements in the combined channel, it would be watchable. They have to deviate from their original purpose in order to survive. I saw G4 when it first started and it looked like it was doing okay with what they had, a nice mix of video game talk shows, game hint shows, game competitions, and game variety like Cinematech. It's when they bought Techtv and decided to merge that caused the major problems in viewing for me. At least they put Call for Help back on with Leo.

This is much bigger than the Tech TV people crying that they can't see Leo Laporte and Patrick Norton anymore.

Even the dedicated G4 fans are crying foul with the cancellation of some of the older G4 shows.

Still, Comcast wants G4 to be Spike-Lite, and seriously thinks that it'll take a chunk out of the 18-24 male numbers. Sure, good luck with that. And good luck holding onto the niche audience that you had 100 percent of, too.

As far as an action block goes, no one will take it seriously, because G4 has become such an abomination. Unless they put RahXephon on it.

It'd be cool if they knew what shows to grab, how to package them and when to air them.

From their past record they'll cobble together a bunch of stuff, give it a package that it seems like business men in suits think is "hip", then continually change when it's aired.

I think G4TV has great potential if they'd sit down, have a meeting and better solidify what they're trying to do and how to bring it all together instead of seemingly like a high budget cable access channel.

    Get video game cartoons.

Captain N, Battletech, Reboot, Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, Sonic SatAM, Q-Bert, Pac-Man... maybe sneak some Starship Troopers in there.

Pick a theme and do your best with it.

CNN's website mentioned that a name change is possible for the channel when they discussed the acquisition of Star Trek. Basically, the executives at G4 don't know what they're doing and are just acquiring whatever the heck they can from left to right. So I'm guessing by the end of they year, the only real gaming related programming we'll have are X-Play, AOTS (which isn't too much gaming), and Training Camp (if that even counts.)

Hey, G4's looking for a writer for Icons.... hold up before you think it's gaming, it's pop culture stories they want!!! http://www.entertainmentcareers.net/id/?id=46115

CN has had the rights to Armada, Energon and Cybertron. However there's still G1 which no one has had for years due to licesning issues (how G4 could have scored that is beyond me) and the 3 series that Fox Kids held the rights to for a while (Beastwars, Beastmachines and Robots in Disguise). So they could be airing any number of those 4 series because CN doesn't have them.

I've been telling G4 to get VG toons for years now.

How awesome would this be for afternoons?

    Vid Land
3:00 - Captain N: The Game Master / Zelda (on Fridays)
    3:30 - Super Mario Bros. / SMB 3 / SMW
    4:00 - Mega Man
    4:30 - Sonic SatAM
    Action Blast
    5:00 - Reboot
    5:30 - Beast Wars
    6:00 - Transformers G1
    6:30 - Kaiju Big Battle

And like John said. Stuff like Redneck Chronicles would be great. How about Exo-Squad. And dare I say it... hit up Bandai for and ADV for Gundam, Dai-Guard, Nadesico and other robot shows.

Well they didn't say Kaiju Big Battle, just Kaiju. That could mean a small group at G4 dubbing over Ultraman or Godzilla movies in the most unfunny fashion G4's programing has to offer.

edit: Well the KBB has a Q of the week asking what's good on G4 next month and their board is wondering the same thing.

That'd be pretty darn sweet (in fact, it'd be the only thing that'd get me to watch G4 again), but remember, there are plenty of more recent video game anime that could be shown as well. Power Stone, Arc the Lad, Sakura Wars, Virtua Fighter, Street Fighter II V, and many more. The fact that ADV and G4 have a decent relationship helps as well, as ADV owns a lot of those.

G4 has slowly gone the route of MTV and Cartoon Network. All the stuff they originally were created for is pretty much dead and gone. Attack of the Show is now a show for the frat boy scene as opposed to the geeky gamer/PC'er, X-Play goes off on tangents more often than not, Filter is gone(not that I enjoyed it, I just liked looking at Mizota), and don't know what's up with Cheat.
