Tommy and gang hit the road in an RV. Reason? Susie has been picked to sing at a New York parade (blech!). No, I'm not slamming Susie's singing talent, but dragging it in for this? Pretty cheap. Save her talent for eps that you can immediately tell involve her talent in a major way, I say!

Oh, where was I? It goes out Monday, 8pm e/p. It's an hour long, BTW. You know the drill.

    Spoiler:
There's a sneak peek at Turbonick right now, and let me say this: I thought Girlfriend Rachel wasn't coming along until later?

At least they finally admit one thing: they live in southern California. (You can see it on the map after the dog tears everything up. Also, to drive from northern California to New York, you go over the mountains instead of through the desert.) One small problem: to get from California to New York via the Grand Canyon, you don't go through Nevada first.

And what could be a bigger national audience than the "Gracie's Day" Parade? (Which brings up the question: how many people use the term "Macy's Day Parade" to refer to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade? The real "Macy's Day parade" is the parade of people who shop the day after Thanksgiving...)

I dunno... the National Soapbox Derby Finals, maybe? I hope they didn't do that bit for a cheap gag. Maybe they can tie it in with the ripoff artist from episode 1 ("Susie Sings The Blues")...

And speaking of tying it in, I'm guessing that no one mentioned that Susie had missed two straight shots at stardom heading into this eppy ("Runaround Susie", "It's Karma, Dude!")?

It was an okay special. Personally, I liked it better then the last All Grown Up Special, awhile back. The only thing I didn't get is why their moms' still treat them like little babies! At least it got better towards the end. With Suzie's singing being very well emphasized!

(Then again, the commentators always talk over the "no-name" singers on the floats, so it's doubtful anybody watching on TV heard Susie.)

Another thing about the episode: did it ever occur to any of them that, once they got to Denver Airport, they could have called, say, Susie's father to fly there and then escort Susie to New York? They didn't all have to get there in time for the parade - just Susie.

Depends. Is Randy still working on Dummi Bears?

Meanwhile, wonder if the "Gracie" is a shoutout to "Gracie Films", AKA that company that distributes The Simpsons (which K-C did work on once).

    Question the Answers.

Since it's now available on DVD (released 10/11 - includes "The Science Pair" and "It's Karma, Dude!"), probably not for a while.

Wasn't all that great. The first one was better. Wish "Dude, Where's My Horse?" was available on DVD.

It re-aired the very same day that you asked when it would re-air. (Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 6:00 PM).

Does anyone know if "DWMH?" will be back on again any time soon?

    Uh... here.

And speaking of DVDs, DVDToons has a scathing review of RV.

Meanwhile, here's a question to ponder. Which was more of a bust: Lil's soccer record attempts, or the whole kiss-quest storyline Chuckie got himself into?

Cooltoons over hyped that but I think it was miss interpreted. CT never said anything about Chuckie getting a first kiss. They just asked the question "will he be kissed?"

And yeah, he got kissed... on the cheek... So technically its consistent.

Seeing that this thread has just been bumped up, there's something I don't get about this special...

From what I've read, when Angelica previously tried to sabotage Susie's singing gigs (directly or indirectly), she had something to gain from doing so. In SSTB it was headlining the talent night instead of Susie (though that wasn't her doing, to be fair). In Runaround Susie she auditioned for FameQuest, and I'm pretty sure she'll be PO'd that she was beaten by someone who turned up a noshow for the next round (guess who? ). We're all aware of what she did in IKD (and I know some people who think that Angelica still should have gotten to sing).

However, what on earth was Angelica hoping to achieve with her attempts to prevent Susie from showing up at Gracie's? She wasn't going to replace her if she didn't show up (besides, they were stuck with each other and the rest of the gang anyway!).

Probably made her feel good in satisfying her jealousy because Susie was getting all the attention at the momment.

I agree. There was absolutely no point of Angelica doing what she did, but then, as we all know, Angelica is a rather jealous hearted person. Even in the older episodes of Rugrats, she was trying to outdo Susie.

She may not have needed a point, other than she was down right jealous that Susie got the chance and she didn't.

Personally, I'm a little sick of this "Susie singing" crap to begin with. It might just be me, but everytime I turn around, it's like they're trying to find an excuse, no matter how small, to get Susie to sing. She even sings on epsiodes that don't revolve around her.

To me, it's getting down right ridiculous. Susie can sing. We GET it. She doesn't have to do it in every single episode or movie special she's in. Personally, I think they're trying to get the voice actress a CD...

With that being said, you can guess where my opinion of the episode/tv special is going. Though none of the side stories really add much promise to it either.

I honestly couldn't have cared less if Chuckie got kissed...

Starting season 2 at least, it wasn't just you. (Though the "singing in episodes that aren't about her" trend started with "Brother, Can You Spare the Time?" in season 1...) In season 3, it DEFINITELY wasn't just you (see "Blindman's Bluff" and "Rats Race"... somewhat ironically, her singing talent was best used in the latter ep, and yet it didn't feature her singing!), and with RHVFY? Absolutely ridiculous that her singing is the whole point of the road trip.

Cree Summer released a solo album in '99, didn't she?

Okay, how about if Angelica kissed him instead? Or maybe Lil put up a fit for Didi knocking her over?

Coming soon to Nickdisk, a poll to rate everyone's little subplot in RVHFY. (Toonzone doesn't do "rating" polls.)

Dunno. Really don't keep up with VA's unless I really like them. Sorry, but it just reminded me of "Unfabulous" in that sense: the main girl keeps singing and singing--and LOOK! Now she's got a sountrack.

Nah. Still don't care. I just wasn't all that interested like I was say "Will Helga and Arnold get together?" "Will Sam and Danny finally stop acting silly and admit their feelings?" Kind of thing.

There's a little element of irony, perhaps intentional, in this story. When they get home, the whole town will envy Susie for having sung in the parade. But, in a way, they should envy Tommy, Chuckie, and the whole group as well.

We see a long shot of their hotel and the surrounding buildings when they arrive in New York. Did anyone recognize it? It's unmistakably the Plaza Hotel, in Grand Army Plaza by Central Park, and it's among the world's fanciest--strictly for the wealthy.

There are a lot more people who can say "I sang in a parade" than "I slept at the Plaza Hotel". And, as if that isn't enough, the promoters decide to give the AGU group "special luxury suites"--in a place where they would need like $3000 to $4000 to put them up for one night in the CHEAPEST rooms!
