    Should Cool World be remade?

    Like This Thread!
Do you think Cool World should be remade but with Ralph Bakshi's original script? If yes, who do you think should direct? My choice would be Joel Schumacher.

I don't think I'd be happy with Joel Schumacher directing car commercials. The man needs a restraining order from cameras.

The original Cool World isn't that bad. Sure, I imagine Bakshi probably wanted it "rawer" but didn't John K. say the same thing about Ren and Stimpy? It's already a passable popcorn flick which despite the bad screenplay and acting has great mind-bending visuals and a catchy soundtrack. I don't really see a need to "improve" it.

Yes, it should, or at the very least I should have copies of the original script(s) and/or storyboard(s).

I see and who do you think should direct a remake of Cool World?

Meh, it was done once. It does not need to be done again.

I'd add Joe Dante and Wes Craven to that list.

Are you aware of the fact that Ralph Bakshi's original concept for Cool World was wildly different from the film that it ended up being? (In Bakshi's original script, Holli Would was called Debbie Dallas and

A little bit in the gutter, a lot in the toilet

The only real potential I see for a remake would be one which followed, as Mr.Pannozzi said, the original scripts and storyboards, which essentially be a new film since, as I understand it, the movie was changed dramatically from Bakshi's original intent.

I don't see much worth in a remake founded in how the film actually turned out as there was nothing particularly good about that.

I suppose I might like to see Bakshi have some satisfying vindication by having him direct the film anew by his original intent. Barring that, I suppose any able animation director with well-developed adult sensibilities would do.

Did Ralph Bakshi read the EC Comics? The plot and the moral I think sounds alot EC and also, John do you think Joel Schumacher should direct a Cool World remake?

It flopped the first time around, didn't it? I don't see it ever being remade...

    As I said---

It was done once. It does not need to be done again. It doesn't matter that the plot was different. It wasn't a terribly great movie, and changing the plot to that wont make it any better.

I have no opinion of Joel Schumacher as I've not seen any of his films (to date) except for a bit of "The Lost Boys" (My Japanese language class has a Japanese-subtitled VHS of "The Lost Boys", or as it's called in Japan, "Rosuto Boi"). I don't think he should direct a CW remake because he has no experience in animation or comics. I'd MUCH rather have Tim Burton (a former cartoonist who got his start with Bakshi) or Joe Dante (who is a HUGE cartoon fan) direct a CW remake.

The plot wouldn't be the only thing different. The whole tone of the movie would be different. It would be (in the words of former Toon Zoner Stephen W. "Steve" Worth, known on message boards as "bigshot") "Roger Rabbit meets Blade Runner".

But you know, Schumacher does a good job with Horror, not only The Lost Boys but he also did a good job on Flatliners.

Well, that was rude. Shutting the guy down because he didn't give the answer you were hoping for. For shame.

No movie should be remade. There are so many incredible ideas gathering dust in Hollywood we don't need to look back. This goes triple for animation seeing as only two or three theatrical animated films get released a year (More now thanks to the 3d boom)
