Do you think Family Guy should've stayed dead??

    Like This Thread!
I don't, I think Season 4, while somewhat dissapointing has been going smoothly. I found rewatching the episodes on Adult Swim, makes them seem a lot better & more classic because the expectations aren't as high. The main reason people seem to complain is they expect ridicously high things...Even when The Simpsons & South Park were in their prime they had some very bad, let-down episodes. Hell, South Park's second & third seasons have some incredibly dull & boring episodes in them. I expect people to warm up to FG, but it's funny how people despised American Dad when it premiered, but know they're praising it more than FG. I think people are being too harsh on FG, the show has only had 13 episodes, most of which have been good, while 3-4 have been poor.

I've always thought Family Guy was good for mindless entertainment...and even this newest season provides that, so it's all good in my opinion. I do however, find I enjoy watching the older ones more then the newer ones (mainly because they are funnier and the jokes don't feel so forced), but in the same breath I haven't really found the newer ones to be particularly horrible...just not as good.

So I guess that's a no...it's fine that the show came back.

Yeah, I do notice watching Season 2 or 3 shows how many jokes you can still laugh just as hard at and repeat to your friends the next day at school or work..But it could have to do with two of the head FG writers leaving to run American Dad (Mike Barker & Matt...I forget his name) But I still think FG is running smoothly.

I never really liked Family Guy in the first place. For some reason, I just don't think it's that funny.

At least "bad" Family Guy is better than no Family Guy at all.

Though, I don't think it's bad at all. I think it's as funny as it always was...it's just that the plots are even more crazy and nonsensical than before.

EXACTLY--- I'm still laughing myself to tears. The show has only gotten weirder than it was back when it started.

Nah. The premiere and a small handful of episodes show that they still can make me laugh. It's just we did not expect a certain small handful of episodes to actually be rather trying affairs. But that can change since it is too early to say whether or not that will be the style for the rest of the season.

I don't like the new episodes, so I just don't watch them anymore. I'm not going to say it should have stayed dead just becuase I don't care for the new stuff.

Now I'm all for arguing with the evil spirit known as Matt Wilson, but he said "editor," not writer. Very different. Plus, he doesn't literally want the guy dead...

Should "Family Guy" have stayed dead? Good God, yes.

I like to see the return of an unjustly cancelled show just as much as the next guy, but not when it becomes something completely different. The 1999-2002 episodes of "Family Guy" had a strong sense of character and plot, even with an overlying essence of anarchy and ludicrousness. The 2005 episodes are only there to exhibit random humor, pointless cutaways, and mangled characterizations for the sake of a cheap laugh. Worse still, there is no sense of comedic timing, as "jokes" keep dragging on for far too long (Peter's "You Have AIDS" song, Stewie heckling Brian about his unfinished novel, etc.), and the humor is so unfunny it's actually painful (I'm talking to you, endless vomiting scene in "8 Simple Rules for Buying My Teenage Daughter" that made me stop watching the show forever). Yeah, that's right - I don't watch anymore. There's no point in me watching the new episodes if I'm just gonna feel empty, disappointed, angry, disturbed, confused, and sometimes just a little suicidal at the end of every one.

No, it shouldn't have stayed dead. The show deserves not to be ended prematurely. I do, however, want it to be better than it's been lately. "North By North Quahog" proved that the show still has life and can still be every bit as funny as it used to be, and that there's no real "hiatus effect" going on here. But about half of the season after that was disappointing, and even the good ones weren't quite as good, though certainly they were all that I expect.

I am so totally glad it's back. The endless praising and worship of the first three seasons were unbearable partially because unlike The Simpsons Seth MacFarlane could no wrong in fans eyes. Face it The Simpson may have slipped but it took them over eight years to really jump the shark. Family Guy has been coasting on it's laurels since it came back after just over three seasons.

And I'm just petty enough to enjoy that.

Seriously Seth MacFarlane says he won't run the show into the ground like The Simpsons has and will end it at the ninth season. But I've heard similar promises from Jerry Seinfeld and Drew Carey and we all know what they amounted to.

I'm sorry. I can't help enjoying this too much.

Yeah, and? Seinfeld stayed funny throughout its entire 9 seasons. Can't speak for The Drew Carey Show- I'm not a regular follower of it.

Jerry: Well, I don't know how official any of these rankings really are.

If it stayed dead, we'd just be whining and whining to Fox to make more. New episodes is what the fans wanted, so it's too late to say "take them back."

Newer Family Guy episodes are a tad bit less funny and well-paced than the old episodes, and the plots are a lot more disjointed and aimless, but overall, I don't see that much difference in quality. I don't care if a new Family Guy episode has a pointless plot with nothing but random jokes and cutaways, since it's not like I ever watched Family Guy for its plots and characters in the first place.

I'd keep Family Guy on the air. Though I wouldn't mourn too much if MacFarlane gave up on Family Guy to focus more on American Dad, a show with a lot more potential than Family Guy.

Yes. I never thought the show was that funny to begin with, though....so I might be bias.
