Yay, the Easter Beagle is back!

See the Toon Zone News page for more. I'm glad they're running this Peanuts chestnut instead of just ordering the old animators to create a new Easter special using old strips. I never got to see it, but I had a book based on it. How long ago did it stop appearing? I haven't seen it in MY lifetime...

That's interesting. I haven't seen that one in years. I'll have to read that article.

Ma Arbuckle: You weren't thinking of putting chili powder in my sausage gravy now, were you, grandma?
Grandma: No. Heavens to betsy, child. Why would you think such a thing? Just because my chili gravy won a blue ribbon at the county fair and yours didn't even place. Who am I to tell you how to make sausage gravy? The Green County gravy champion, that's who.

Hey, that's cool to hear! I thought that ABC only had the rights to three specials (A Charlie Brown Christmas, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, and It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown), while Nickelodeon had the rest of the specials (ALL of them). But this is really good news!

So, out of curiosity, when was the last time this special aired on television?

What happened to all the Easter cartoons, anyway? All I see on Easter now is The Ten Commandments and The Prince of Egypt.
I miss the Peter Rabbit specials and stuff.

ABC also has the rights to the Thanksgiving episode, and pretty much all new episodes being made since 2002.

Ah, I thought I had mentioned that Thanksgiving one! Thanks for reminding me!

Yeah, I know they have the Thanksgiving one (CBS relinquished their rights to the "big three" specials, A Charlie Brown Christmas, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving to ABC, because they were apparently sick and tired of doing Peanuts specials). I wasn't thinking clearly when I ended up putting Easter Beagle in the list. Sorry.

I have Easter Beagle on tape (it was some kind of promotional thing that my uncle sent when I was a kid) and, behind the Christmas Special, it's my favorite holiday Peanuts cartoon, and #3 overall (behind It's Your Dog Charlie Brown). I like the shopping and egg making scenes with Peppermint Patty and Marcie. Considering that ABC has aired other Peanut's holiday specials, it was just a matter of time before this gem returned to TV. Now, if ABC were to air Flashbeagle, we might have something here.
