    'Shark Tale'?

    O...M...F...G.

That's it. The academy is a complete farce.

Shark Tale. WHY that and not 'The Polar Express'?

And we all know the Incredibles will slaughter the competition. Works for me, as I hope Shrek gets its whatfor after robbing the oscar from 'Monsters Inc' in 2002. XP

Honestly I was hoping for The Incredibles to get a best picture nod. The film is really the best movie visually that I've ever seen. If Shrek 2 (Please no) gets the win it will be a sad day.

Shrek 2 had an original song? I thought they just stole every popular song and had the cast sing them.

On another note, I hope Plympton wins.

I'm tellin' ya people, the Academy will be biased at every anime film except anything that has the name "Ghibli" or "Miyazaki" in it!

    Money's on The Incredibles.

According to the VH1 special, the Counting Crows wrote that song especially for the movie...not that I like it any. I think the song is sappy pap and I pray the it doesn't win the Oscar.

And I'm with everyone else. What weed was the Academy smoking when they nominated Shark Tale? Well, at least I can take solice in the fact that most people believe The Incredibles will win. Shrek 2's over-reliance on pop-culture references is too obvious the second time around.

Whatever you do, don't read this signature.

    ...?

Consider it as a strategic attempt by the nomination committee to swing more votes towards Shrek 2 by picking its grossly inferior Dreamworks kin Shark Tale. That's my conspiracy theory, and it's the only sensible reason why the movie got nominated.

Unlike the other categories, the Best Animated Feature nominees are selected by a (very) small panel of Academy voters that view all the contenders and pick 3 (or 5, if contenders number 15 or more). I sure like to know who are in that panel.

Eh, it's not like there were any really good theatrically-released anime films this year anyway. The only one that might've had a shot was Ghost in the Shell 2, which would've been a good pick for some of the technical awards but definitely doesn't deserve Best Animated. So I'm not exactly crying about it this year.

Everything but the Incredibles is just being nominated as a technicality, anyway. It's got the Oscar-friendly Pixar name attached to it, plus strong box office numbers, plus good critical response, plus it's strongest competition (Shrek 2) has sequel-itis. It's a no-brainer.

Why not Shark Tale? It was a hit movie and well done.

While not 'teh best 2004 movie evar', I do agree.

Heck, I would have settled for 'Polar Express' too, not Shark Tale.

I feel sorry for my dad, as he had to go see ST with my little brother. The man rarely ever sees movies these days... why did it have to be that one? D=

... And if 'The Incredibles' doesn't win (yeah right, everyone knows it'll smoke the competition, unless the Academy is going for 'realistic' CG. Pfft, comparing the aesthetics of Incredibles and Shrek 2 is like apples and oranges), that will truly be one of the biggest crimes of the century.

Not surprised to see some Incredibles nominations. I have yet to see it, but I hope to when it comes out on pay per view or disc, I have been hearing loads of good stuff about it.
Be sure to catch 24 every Monday at 9pm Eastern on Fox (and 10pm Eastern on Global). Watch it, because you know you're brighter than Michael Irvin.

What about a nomination for "I'm So Ronery" or "Pearl Harbor Sucked". This is a travesty, They nominate "Shrek 2"'s terrible song over these. Bullcrap!
