Are there ANY topics animation hasnt covered?

    Like This Thread!
Hopefully this wont get banned, but is there any topic that might be "too taboo" for animation? I mean, i havent seen any cartoons involving amputees or the mentally handicapped (South Park's timmy doesnt count since he's more physically handicapped).

I think the top issues that are out therre that have been done by Animations are as follows (in No Particluar Order):

    1. Handguns and Gun Safety. (Static Shock, Gargoyles, and Bravestarr (Way back in the 1980's)

    2. Drugs. (Here they've done a couple of Shows, including "Cartoon All Stars")

    3. Handicapbable people (Disney has done a couple of Episodes like this, Kim Possible, Gargoyles, and even Darkwing Duck)

4.Body Image (Brace Face did this in an episode Called "Skin Deep" and The Real Ghostbusters did something like that in season 6 (Called "Janine is that you?) There are others just tying to find the examples here...

    5. Shop Lifiting.. only one Braceface Episode comes to mind..(Maria Steals a ring from a Store..)

    The Least done items are

6.Teen Alcoholism (Braceface adressed this in Miami Vices)
    7. Teen Pregnancy and of course the three letter word we can't mention. (Braceface also did a couple episodes like that).
    8. and of course Gang Violence (only one case of this and it was in a Captin Planet show..)

but there are other issues that Haven't been discussed on Cartoons and in fact the Reason why they haven't been discussed are probably because of the issues that they do discuss (I mean they approach the Teen Alcoholism and Pregnancy issues with "Kids Gloves" because of the fact that they feel that a lot of Kids are watching.. hence the issue on this..so really there's very few issues Cartoons haven't touched.. but if there are some I'd like to know if Cartoon makers are keeping away from these issues because of the "Topical Nature" of the issue, or is it that they are having Questions about "how to present this..)

Cryptozoology 101: The truth is real.

Friday nights on CN.. Action, Adventure, and.. Chilli Fries?

I guess I'd say anything relating to planes hitting two identical towers. Yeah, that would go over REAL well.

That won't be impossible. Just that the studios won't even consider doing something like that for another 10-20 years.

Several of those have been done and done. You can see cannibals in black and white 30's cartoons.

    "Three letter word"... hmm...

"Sex"? "The Simpsons" has covered this ("Fuzzy Bunny's Guide to You-Know-What" Troy McClure classroom film shown to Bart; another ep with Homer and Marge's sex life problems; a first-season ep showing Homer with an exotic dancer, and various red-light district spots in Springfield).

"Gay"? Showtime runs/ran a five-minute cartoon after "Queer As Folk" (one-hour gay-centered soap opera---the mirror opposite of "Will and Grace"'s chasteness) called "Queer Duck", about, well, a gay duck (and friends). Voices for this one done by our own Maurice "The Brain" LaMarche and Jim Cummings.

As well as the 1945 Chuck Jones cartoon "Hare Conditioned" - the whole reason Bugs is retaliating in the cartoon is because the "Great Gildersneeze" plans to have him stuffed.

It's interesting to see how many topics have been covered by Braceface.

As for topics, do you guys think one day cartoons will take on events such as 9/11?

That was also done on the Simpsons in the episode "Marge Be Not Proud", when Bart stole a video game and had to face the consequences after his efforts to hide his crime failed.

And I just remembered this also happened on the Powerpuff Girls in the episode "A Very Special Blossom", although it was more technically stealing since Blossom sneaked off with the set of golf clubs after MoJo damaged the sporting goods store during one of his usual attacks on Townsville.

I remember that episode of the simpsons well. It was a good portrayl of how much distrust can be created between a mother and her son, when he shoplifts.

There's a cartoon done by the Fleischer Studios as an "Inside Joke" (it was never oficially released). It's very graphic pornography and it's called "Buried Treasure". It was made in 1928 (which means it pre-dates Popeye) and a copy somehow made it to Ebay in a "cartoons for adults" tape. I've never seen, and hope I never, EVER will.

Fushigi Yuugi and Perfect Blue both deal with rape (although, to be fair, the rape in Perfect Blue is just an act).

Oh, and there's white slave trading discussed in Fushigi Yuugi (as well as something else that hasn't been discussed here: genocide).
