Three Types of Animation for one Toon?!?

    Like This Thread!
I dont mean to start a Totally Spies Disscussion thread, its just in relation. I've noticed this for a long time now.. it seems the animators for Totally Spies use 3 types of animation... is that possible?!?! Which animation out of the three is your favorite? #1 is the type where 'chibi/anime poses are used' (the eyes more rounded), #2 is the type using sweatdrops a lot, and there's nothing special about #3 except for the fact the spies look like they're older and more mature(the eyes more like this> ^_^.) DISCUSS, any other Toons that have this same weird coincidence. I find it uniquelly strange. Although I like Animation #1 a lot more because of the chibi moments.

Have a look... You will clearly be able to see the differences: (from left to right) Toying Around, Alex Quits & Fashion Faux Pas).

Those are all kind of stretching for types of animation, but I don't care. The animated lord of the rings by Ralph Bashki (I doubt I got his name right, he's the guy who did the new mighty mouse, Fritz the Cat, Wizards, Fire and Ice...) had like 10 styles of animation, none of which I liked at all...

It's probably three different animation houses (or more) that work on the show, but I haven't bothered to look at the credits. I have noticed episodes like Toying Around are leaning more toward the computer effects, adding heavy amounts of blurring and floating effects to cut down on the animation...but oddly enough, it seems to look good.

As far as I know, the only overseas studio to work on Totally Spies is Koko. They probably just use different artists for different episodes.

Incidentally, I like #3's look the best. Sugah, you once called it the "glossy" look, and it's been used in episodes like "Nature Nightmare", "Spy vs. Spy", "Mommies Dearest", etc. #1 is probably my second favorite, though it has some annoying quirks: Character's mouths will open unrealistically large when talking normally, the overuse of anime cliches (#3 seems to limit them to when appropriate, a la Teen Titans), and the girls looks younger (especially in their eyes).

All I know is, I strongly disliked the art style used in "A Thing For Musicians",
"Eraser", and a few other early episodes. The animation was choppy at certain points, and often it would happen during action scenes, which is unfortunate. Plus, the characters were frequently off-model.

That's what I'm a questioning as well.. eps #1-5 you basically cannot tell the animation difference. Maybe the first 5 were done by completely different artists. I happened to not enjoy the animation for A Thing for Musicians because it made the girls' look korean, which frightended me a little.

The animation of Teen Titans has a lot of the effects used in Totally Spies I've noticed and basically looks the same, but isnt. Is there any other animated series that have the same time of animation-coincidences alike Totally Spies? Believe Me, I've been looking.

All I know is, #3 is completely out of the way from #1 and #2 so I'm hoping they improve it a little more come season 3 in september.

Sugah, what episodes use style #2? That screenshot is not ringing any bells.

I don't mind the chibi. The "Teardrop"
isn't a teardrop, but a giant sweat, the japaneese animae sign of embrassment, humiliation, or guilt. No doubt the "teardrop" gag started on Sailor Moon and can
be seen (unexpectedly) in other animae cartoons like Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Shaman King, Teen Titans, and recently TS's sister show (by Marathon) Martin Mystery.

First, it's spelled "anime", Teen Titans nor Martin Mystery or anime, and sweatdrops can also be used when... someone does something stupid and you have no comment on it. I think.

Clover: Greenland? So it's like hot there right?

Here's an example of the sweatdrop:

Looking at the list, and a few screenshots, I would conclude that the 2nd style is like a combo of #1 and #3. I'm just glad that Totally Spies doesn't use the art style that's on the official website. They look weird- for example, Sam's skin is really pale.

Yup. ^_^ and those are huge sweatdrops, *laughs*, they're not quite as big sometimes, but with that #2 animation style I guess they are.

If you guys think Totally Spies over-play's the anime blend in their animation, then you oughta be saying Teen Titans. They use the funny anime quirks all the time, TS just starting using some of the chibi poses in season 2's I, Dude.
