(based on the H.C Anderson tale) directed by Jiri Trnka? . it's a Czech film that uses puppets ( not exactly like Rankin-Bass but sort of ) .

it was truly magnificent!.. the fantasia of puppet animation I thought . the emperor and his servants were so cute and the nightingale was wonderous. brought tears to my eyes when she sang.. such a marvelous movie :thumbup:

I loved the Emperor's Nightingale. When I was very young it used to be shown on TV around the holidays and it was also featured in part of a music lesson at school.

I think that apart from a movie called 'Run Wild Run Free' the Emperor's Nightingale was just about the only thing on TV that every made me cry as a child, bits of it just broke my heart it was portrayed so beautifully and seemed so different from the regular puppet shows/animation on TV.

Thanks for bringing it up, its revived a lot of memories and I'd love to see it again though I guess now I'd cry harder than ever
