    Animated Music Videos Discussion

    Like This Thread!
Recently, some of the latest music videos on MTV and Fuse feature heavy dosages of animation. This got me started to think about the animated videos of the past from Dire Straits, Gorillaz, Pearl Jam, and others. So, I propose this: what is the greatest animated music video of all time?

My top 5 goes like this:
    1) Dire Straits, "Money for Nothing" (the first 3D-animated video and the ultimate promotional push for MTV)
    2) Gorillaz, "Clint Eastwood" (bizarre and stylish)
    3) Franz Ferdinand, "Take Me Out" (great song with a unique pop-art collage)
    4) Linkin Park, "Breaking The Habit" (Anime meets A-Ha...)
    5) A-ha, "Take On Me" (...speak of the devil)

What are your opinions on animated music videos? What videos did you like/dislike? What do you consider to be an "animated music video"? Discuss.

Nice choices there. I'm a comedy guy, so my top 3 includes the Weird Al "Beverly Hillbillies" video, the "Jurassic Park" video, and the "Three Little Pigs" video.

I haven't seen the whole Gorillaz video, but I have seen clips, and the stylized animation combined with a notoriously catchy song intrigues me.

More music videos should be animated, IMO. I've come up with some ideas for my own animated takes on real songs, and everyone I've pitched 'em to says that if I ever get into the business I should go for it.

No contest-- Pearl Jam's "Do the Evolution."

The aforementioned Gorillaz and Weird Al videos belong high on the list as well, as well as Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing, Ah-ha's "Take on Me," and its offspring, Incubus' "Drive." I'm really surprised no one's mentioned Daft Punk yet, either.

Wow, I can't believe nobody has mentioned one of the greatest music videos ever, Paula Abdul's "Opposites Attract." One of the coolest ever. Also, I definitely agree about those Gorillaz videos, has anyone seen those other videos that they made that weren't released on tv? They did Tomorrow Comes Today and Rock the House videos, the latter looking like a Rollerball knockoff.
Be sure to catch 24 every Monday at 9pm Eastern on Fox (and 10pm Eastern on Global). Watch it, because you know you're brighter than Michael Irvin.

I'm sure there are some I'll forget, but of what I can remember-

    1. Gorillaz "19-2000"
    2. Kenna "Hell Bent"
    3. The White Stripes "Fell In Love With a Girl" (lego animation!)
    4. Gorillaz "Clint Eastwood"
    5. Daft Punk "One More Time"

    Honorable mentions to-

U2 "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me"
Tom Petty "Runnin' Down a Dream"

    bloody 'ell....

I must admit I love the earlier animated RadioHead music videos....they were beautiful in their sweet depressed state...just so lovely to see such horrific sights with a lazy sad song to go with it.. truly dramatic.

I liked the Canadian band Prozzak and their animated videos...Good sexual innuendo...I'm still very much aggressive to find their new CD: Saturday People.

Also yes, Paula Abdul's Opposites attract was very good. Especially considering it was early/mid??80's

    I would also recommend:

Tool's "Undertow" and "Prison Sex" (MTV actually moved "Prison Sex" to late night only after parents complained that it was giving their kids nightmares.)

Rolling Stones' "Harlem Shuffle" by Ralph Bakshi (and possibly John K)

John Fogerty's "Vance Can't Dance" (animation by Will Vinton's Claymation)

    I'm biased, but...

    1) Dire Straits - Money for Nothing
Honestly, you can't have a list of this topic and not have that video be mentioned. Compared to today's standards, it's real primitive, but I love it so much.

    2) A-Ha - Take on Me
Another one of those 'it has to be mentioned' videos. Yes, there's a fair amount of live action, but the animated bits (and the story it told) always enchanted me as a young kid.

    3) Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood or 19-2000
Either one is fantastic, but then again, I pretty much love all the videos the Gorillaz have done so far. Oh, and Carolina Red? I actually saw the 'Rock the House' video on TV once... and only once. p_q

    4) Werid Al Yankovic - Jurassic Park
I totally forget how the song goes, but I do remember the distinct aesthetics of the video. Tres cool.

    5) Linkin Park - Breaking the Habit
This just kinda landed up here, 'cause it just looks so damn cool.

Didn't Daft Punk do more than one music video that had anime sequences done by the legendary Leiji Matsumoto besides "One More Time"?

    I have two.

Daft Punks animated videos and Linkin Park's "Breaking The Habit".

Have you guys seen Chronic Future's "Time and Time Again?" Doesn't it seem it was made by Flash?

How do you get the videos? I only saw four, and that was from a special of Toonami's "Midnight Run".

Interstella 5555 is out on DVD. You can find it at your local video store under either "anime" or "Music Videos".

Daft Punk and Gorillas videos defintley take the top spot. Espically "Harder, Faster, Better, Stronger" and "Take The Cool Sunshine."

Favorite Recent Animated Music Video? Defintley They Might Be Giant's "Experimental Film". Done by the Homestarr Runner crew. Very nicely done I must say.

I didn't like the Homestar/TMBG video. Then again, I've gotten so bored with anything 'Homestar' related, so that might explain something. But that's best saved for another topic.

And the Gorillaz video you're referring to is '19-2000', but I'd see where you'd be confused on the title.
