Fresh Question #41 - Animation On TV

    Like This Thread!
    Hey all,
Just a reminder that this site's newspage (http://www.searth.net/wfnews) will be getting revamped and a new URL soon! Anyways, back to the question:

If you could change, or re-invent, any current or past cartoons which ones would they be?

Re: Fresh Question #41 - Animation On TV

Ohhh....this is a fun one! I am sure I will think of several, but off the top of my head, I would love to see an updated version of the animated Dungeons and Dragons series. I truly loved that series in the 80s, and given the renewed interest in the franchise with the movie and comic book, the time for a new animated series is prime.

That is my first pick. I have to think about this one further for some more ideas.

I would try to bring Gargoyles back with Greg Weisman....maybe Gargoyles 2198....(I can dream)

    Teknoman...that would good
The Critic-from what I remember was good...I think
    Thunder Cats...totally redone...more mature (I don't mean X-rated)

    More I thought of...

    Duck Man
    Mission Hill
    Clerks
And I would sign Daria up for another season, at least!

Definitely more Gargoyles... and all the spinoffs Weisman had planned.

I'd totally rework the ending for Digimon 02 with careers and couples that made sense and didn't make you depressed watching it. It's just wrong and it seems that season 3 is leaning towards couples that Toei will have to chicken out on as well.

"Tracey Sketchit" actually showing up on Pokemon. If "Todd" can do another 3 episodes. And yes, there was the movie 3 cameo, and a still cameo in the "Slowpoke Town" ep, both Johto themes from Japan (can't see him w/o slo-mo in the 2nd one)... You'd think the professor'd take him along to one of the research places he visits in an upcoming episode but noooooooooooo Oh well, at least we all know why "James" bought the infamous "Moltres" outfit. He did hear our li'l PokeWatcher talking in his sleep and all... Maybe that's what he's been up to.

I'd just like to see more unedited material. I think that the vast majority of the animation community is mature enough to handle and graphic nature of some anime, and we deserve it. Plus editing cartoons that aired unedited 6 years ago is poor taste. I would like a channel where everything is as it should be.

I'd definitely re-do Jackie Chan, xing out the bratty Jade. Uncle makes a decent enough sidekick, but the Jade saves the day every episode crap is indigestible and unwatchable. She destroys the entire concept of the show.

Perhaps a return of Geeker without so much stupidity in the main character (I know this was supposed to portray innocence, but there's a difference between innocence and idiocy). The secondaries were so much more interesting and appealing. Geeker had potential with its strange future filled with cyborg gangs, intelligent dinos and dark and dangerous malls. Could be interesting if written with a tad darker tone.

A return of the Real Ghostbusters, giving them stories more in line with the ones written for the inferior Extreme Ghostbusters. I love humorous horror.

I'm sure I'll think of more examples as soon as I post!

How about He-Man and Shi-Ra, heck half of those 80's cartoons redone could work. Goodness knows they where way more innovative then what we have today. Where else would we get Alien Dinosaurs that could transform. Today it's just rehashed little fighting monsters, cheap CG, and lame teen super heroes.

Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers. I don't really know why this popped into mind, I just think those characters would do well in a revamped show.

Your Right,Just look at all these Chip "N" Dale's Rescue Rangers Fanfictions on the net, made of a more mature platform and background of Adventures and Conquests, dealing with darker storys and stronger plots that Chip,Gadget,Dale,Foxglove,Montaray Jack,Zipper Have to face,Like Love,Death,Sacrifice,Pain,Heart Brake,Struggle,Life Matters,Loseing loved ones, they also have Tammy, Wescott (A Squrill in certain Chip "N' Dale's Rescue Rangers Fan Fictions i've read) and other charaters in them to. It's ashame that some of these fan fiction writters or not writting for Walt Disney,I agree with you Bubba on this one,a revamping of CDRR is a great idea, but I don't think Walt Disney would want to make All New Episodes Of Chip "N" Dale's Rescue Rangers that our more mature (meaning TV PG),anyways even if they did, they have to replace the voice actor that voiced Foxglove.

Because Deboraa Walley passed away On May 11,2001 of this year,do to the cancer that took her life,Everytime we read about or see Foxglove in arts, pictures or on tv will remember you and think of you Debraa Walley, God rest her soul continually. I'd redo "Pole Position" but mix in a little "Initial D." Wheels and Roadie are now Apple G4 cubes. Dan Darret now drives a McClaren F1 street racer, and Tess drives a 2003 Dodge Viper. Daisy is now the quintessinal "techno-kid," carries a laptop and designs webpages in her spare time.

Why not just give Inque her own series?

    That's an interesting question

I'd have to say Galaxy Rangers. It had a great concept, good heroes and villians(Scarecrow!), and some decent stories. Looking back, though, the writing could have been a lot better and with today's animation some of that stuff would look a lot cooler.

So that's what I'd do. Bring it back with better writers. Bring in guest writers every week. People like Dini, Timm, Joss Whedon, Mcfarlane, David Brin, William Gibson, Harlan Ellison, etc.
And make the show an hour-long.
Wow, I wish I could do that!

I think I like your idea the best, Killercroc! Especially if you could get those writers to contribute! I know some of them have contributed to comics in the past, but have any of them contributed to animated shows before?

What about a sort of rotating cartoon, where each week, the cartoon would be completely different. One week it cold be action, then next week comedy, drama, etc...and just put it under a name banner.

    Hmmmm....an animated anthology series?

I think an all-anime block could fit the bill, at least until American animation diversifies into the fields of romance and drama. Maison Ikkoku, Blue-Green Years, Master Keaton, Brother, Dear Brother, His & Hers Circumstances, Hana Yori Dango, would make perfect choices for animated drama. Unfortunately, if you can't derive action figures and plastic vehicles from a show, the networks won't touch it.
