    Fox Cans Cubix!

    Like This Thread!
Fox Box has annouced today (5/8/04) that Cubix will leave the air after the next
five broadcasts. This 3-D animated series ran for 2 seasons on Kid's WB and then crossed over to the FoxBox last year to replace a failed japaneese animae series called "Fighting Foodoms". Even though Fox says it's going in the vault "for good", there's a possiblity that it may wind up on another network. Perhaps Cartoon Network. Back when it started it on Kid's WB, the series made a one-time special appearence in primetime on CTN's "Cartoon Fridays". If it does end up there, it will all be reruns. And it has a simularity to that of the first 3-D animated series that also ran on Cartoon Network: "Reboot".

I wouldn't call Fighting Foodons a failure. It actually outperformed Kirby and Ultimate Muscle, the only two shows Fox Box kept from the original batch.

Cubix failed on Fox Box for the same reason Stargate failed: The crappy 8 AM timeslot. Interestingly enough, (Stargate is getting HIGHER ratings in syndication than it ever did on Fox Box.) Every show in that slot, from Yugi-oh, to Jackie Chan Adventures, to Scooby Doo, to Rugrats, ultimately fails, probably because the kids aren't up yet in the Eastern Time Zone, and they CERTAINLY aren't awake in the Central Time Zone.

Wow, I forgot that Cubix was even on anymore, cause I stopped watching after it went to Fox Box,(and I wasnt going to watch it at 7 AM Central Time).

The only times I ever saw it was on Kids WB, and this promotional video that I got in the mail about a month before it came out on TV.

    Anyone else get this VHS?

I hate Cubix. But then again I hate every cartoon that's 3-D.

I never got a Cubix VHS. My little cousin got a mailed DVD from Fox Box that was about this season. I asked if I could have it. It'll pack powerful nostalgia value to someone twenty years from now.

dunno, invader.. . a 30-year old stuffed gator i have doesn't really have much emotional or nostalgiaistical value, not enough for me to take up disco as a lifestyle.

besides.. ravers are so much cooler than disco kings.

dunno any fighting foodon videos would have nostalgia value in 30 years..

but i'd like to find one someday.

Techincally, it started in the late 70's. I started seeing this weird type of animation in commercails like 7-Up, Levi's, and Starburts' Fruit Chews.

I think the two things that may have killed Cubix were the sugary sweetness of the show and the poor handling of the toyline. When you make it so it's hard as hell to get the main character and yet leave the pegs filled up with characters like Cerebix and Don-Don, I think most kids would lose interest.

That's funny, because my Toys 'R' Us couldn't give the human characters away. I got Connor, Chip and Abby for like 2 bucks apiece on clearance.

I don't think anybody has much interest in human characters in a line such as that. How many kids would want a figure of Mong? But I know for a fact that Cubix was shortpacked from my brief Christmas job. Putting out some of the figures that were being put on clearance, out of six boxes there was only about 2 Cubix. The rest all tended to be either Diagnostix, Mr Fixit, Weldenfix or Lectrix.

That's true, but I personally like collecting human figures. Just wish they were more in scale with the Harry Potter/Pokemon characters.

Hey, I wake up from 6 to 9 on Saturdays, and that's usually at about 7:30 I do wake up to watch TV (without a timer).

meh, it was a rubbish show, the lack of the human chracters geting involved storyline wise realy killed it (Kinda like Chris up to ep 26 of Sonic X).

Well, I just gave up watching Cubix after awhile when I gave up hope that Cubix's "separable blocks" capability would not be a deus ex machina for any plot against it. From that point on, it just lost any suspense it might have had.

Foodons' didn't really fail, they replaced it because the series ended and there was nothing left to show.
As for Cubix the 1st season was ok, but the second one needed work and felt rushed.

It's about time! I really hated that show and I only watched it just once, I didn't like it. So put it out of it's misery!
