"Are you still alive or what?"
I just can't wait for this episode to air. This battle is one of the best in Dragonball. Goku is at a real disadvantage here with his injury, and he's still stepping up to the plate. Non threatning injuries are almost unheard of in DBZ. The worst that can happen to a character is fatigue, power loss, overpowerment, and death. Those are the only handicaps that happen in DBZ...and quite frankly, they've been done to death. At least a leg injury is unique and it forces Goku to use strategy like using the Power Pole as a crutch. We feel for Goku because of he struggling with the injury.
Also the battle is cool because it uses martial arts and athleticism. A wide variety of punches, kicks, and other manuevers are used by Goku and King Piccolo during the battle so far. That stuff is always exciting to see rather than just rapid punching, kicking, and energy attacks.
And lastly, this battle satisfy the requirement for cool DBZ battles....the two combatants have to be or appear to be equal. Why was the Piccolo vs. Android 17 fight cool? Why was the Goku vs. Tien fight cool? Why was the Goku vs. Vegeta fight (Buu Saga) cool? Because the guys were even and since they can't simply overpower their enemies with their attacks....they have to use strategy to win.
So what's the magic word for today....Strategy. Strategy creates cool battles....THE END...
And that's my pre Dragonball rant for today...
This has been Dark Spider....
Buh-za! Chik-ka! Wuh-pa! Teamo Kiyone...o!!!! Oops wrong show....

So FINALLY Kami appears! Geez, took him long enough!
And BOTH Goku vs. Vegeta fights were cool. You can't say that the first time you saw Goku's Kame Hame Ha vs. Veggie's Galic Gun you weren't in awe.

First Gokou Vs. Vegeta fight was the best in the series. But I digress.
Goku is getting owned by Piccolo right about now. High drama. Gotta love it.Originally Posted by Animation Otaku

Anyone have a total "What just happened?" moment there?
Well, didn't Gohan loose the ability to use one of his arms in the Cell Games? And loose his arm in the History of Trunks Special? So yeah, there were some of those non threatning injuries in DBZ.I just can't wait for this episode to air. This battle is one of the best in Dragonball. When did Piccolo fight all over the universe?
Question: How did Yajirobe get into that wasteland? I thought he was still at Bora's village.
He's gonna destroy that transmission if he keeps stopping the hovercar like that.
That HAS to hurt. Poor Goku's arm.
Digital Paint! Yay!
See the problem of calling Shen Long the Eternal Dragon.
Why would they cut the shot of Goku going through King Piccolo and Piccolo spitting up the egg when they showed it in a DBZ flashback?
I guess Yajirobe DID get faster by climbing up Karin's tower...

I was thinking the same thing...I thought I missed a scene during the light flash or something. Stupid edit. Good showdown though.Originally Posted by Duke

Toonami's Got Another Final Battle Today, and this time it's thend of the Goku and Piccolo conflict in the "Final Showdown" Dragonball Episode Review.
God, Funimation really editing a lot in these Piccolo arc episodes. I mean, a lot of these edits today (I may not know the whole list, but it was obvious there were some) would have passed if they kept the standard from the other seasons of Dragonball, but why are they being so wussy now? It really makes not sense. One real important shot was edited out today (and ironic because they showed it in a flashback in DBZ) that you will find on this site (you have to scroll down for it though)

Anyway, onto the episode itself. This was a very fitting end. Piccolo cheating by threathening Tien's life only to get shot through the stomach by Goku. Of course, Piccolo's not finished yet. As a final act, he lays an egg that contains the essence of the Piccolo we all know and love in Dragonball. And so the battle ends, however Goku still has to get healed and figure out how to revive the friends he lost since the Dragon has died. A very good episode that dosen't end to early or too late into the episode. A.
EDIT: Forgot to mention 2 things
I guess FUNimation forgot that King Piccolo ISN'T Vegeata. King Piccolo was born on earth and has never travled around the universe. When did Piccolo fight all over the universe?
Oh, and I also forgot to mention that the scene where Yajirobe was thinking of what to do and kept turning around with his car was really funny. It reminded me of this one scene in a Space Ghost Coast to Coast episode ("Warren") where Space Ghost does kinda the same thing ("But he hurts me" backs off "But I've been replicated" goes forward, and the process repeats again).
I had a feeling that would happen. I didn't suggest it though because my post would have been edited by a mod.Originally Posted by Duke

any word of these showing on SVES less edited?
with out the power of sampo, this GJ avatar would never have been possible!

..um...I..dunno. That's why I was asking.
I haven't been watching DBZ or anything on SVES,but since it's on so late where they show the risky shows,I just figured they'd go a little easy on the edits.

Just because it's later at night doesn't mean anything. These kinds of shows won't be shown uncut except on Adult Swim, and 99% of Toonami's shows are not adult.

King Piccolo and Goku faced off for the final time.
*Welcome to Edit-O-Rama.![]()
*I missed the first few minutes but good to see Yajirobe make the save.
*Great fight, too bad the editing took away from it.
Overall a good episode. I'm looking forward to rest of the episodes. This was a good end to the King Piccolo arc. I give it a A-. It's always amazing to me that when Goku is on the brink of elimination, he uses some sort of strategy or tactic to defeat his opponent.

"Are you still alive or what?"
I find it weird CN would edit out those scenes. They were shown twice on DBZ with no problem (In fact, it was through those flashbacks that I first learned about the fight).
In many ways, the Cell Games was a remake of this battle. Both chibi Goku and chibi Gohan fought a dangerous foe who was considered the most powerful being they ever faced. Both boys had to win the battle by the use of one arm (without the aid of the other appendage). Most importantly, Goku's battle with Daimon Piccolo paralleled Gohan's battle with Cell in being the last major fight of their childhoods. Daimon Piccolo and Cell were a trial of fire for Goku and Gohan. It was their passage into manhood.
In a different analysis, this marks the last time we see Goku weep.
