Yu Yu Hakusho ep1?? WTF happened in the Tournament???

    Like This Thread!
I'm finally able to catch YYH at 630 pm, watch Friday's episode, got all interested in the series for the first time, and now it is back to the crappy first episode. What gives? What happened in the Dark Tournament?

The episode that aired on Friday was the end of season 2. So now they're back at the beginning.

That's right! That means we have to wait till FUNi gets their asses back to work and gives us the rest of the 20 something episodes of the remaining tournament saga episodes.

I'm sure the episodes have been finished for a long time now. It'd be foolish to air all of the episodes right away, so they just split them up into blocks like this.

There's 12 episodes left in the Dark Tournament.

Talking with Justin Cook at Anime Expo I beleive that they were still finishing up those last episodes at that time. Also, when YuYu was going into reruns for the first time Kyle Hebert on his board had said that he was finished(or in the process of finishing) voicing Karasu in his fight with Kurama.

The Karasu Vs. Kurama match is on the next dvd release of YYH, which comes out on September 2nd. From what I heard from other YYH fans on the web this battle is an real fan favorite. And Volume 17 which is title Swords and Dragons is coming out on October 7th. Few mintues ago I just found out what is the title of Volume 18 of YYH which called Deadly Toguro. I found my news at http://www.spiritdetective.com/

They'll probably air some new YYH after DB has gotten at least 2 runs of it's final episodes or after SD Gundam has 2 or 3 (then I expect it would move to SVES).

*sighs* I was wondering what was up with that.

I was all pumped to watch Kurama nance around flinging his rose whip everywhere, too.

Ah well, they could be working on other projects now too. I mean why else are they taking so long to dub One Piece, and GXP? I didn't list Conan, Kiddy Grade, or Sakura wars because those were very recent announcements.

What?! I thought it was a rumor until a Funimation VA confirmed they were asked to voice for it.

Still, I loved that thing at the con where this guy dressed as Lufy and the Funi rep guessed what he was going to say (it was around the same time conan was confermed)

Yeah, that's why Kyle Hebert said he was trying out for a role in One Piece.

CN likes doing this to shows
just when it gets good they cut the season off and decide to stop showing em

they think it's their way of making you keep watching
when realy all it does is drive people off

for the most part YYH was the only reason i watched toonami
of course it helped that they're re airing the early dbz's
but i've seen the frieza thing all too much and seeing it now
i notice how extremely similar it is to all the other ones

hopefully their fall line up will come soon :\
i'm curios to see the shows they have in store

Although it may be CN's fault, it could just as easily be Funimation's fault or some combination thereof. CN can't very well air the episodes if Funi has not sent them the tapes. Considering that Funi likes to try and release episodes on VHS or DVD before they air on TV to increase sales I would bet that they have a hand in this. Finally, the Dark Tournament arc is pretty long, it was likely that they were going to have to cut it off somewhere, at least they didn't do it in the middle of the battle (unless I missed an episode). Finally finally, you can't really blame CN. Contrary to opinion this doesn't really drive away viewers, some of the DBZ returns after cliff hangers have produced some of the highest ratings.

Are you familiar with the way TV works? Just about EVERY other TV show (if not every) is split into seasons. Why would you expect no wait between blocks of episodes?
Making shows is a lot of work. In the case of old anime, dubbing them is also a lot of work. They can't do it all at once. Or if they could, it wouldn't be practical because they have to have some sort of product being put out all the time. Do you think they devote entire time-blocks of their lives to dubbing these shows? They have a lot of other things to do.

The people at FUNimation aren't just sitting around doing nothing; they're busy with other shows and stuff. They're not the Yu Yu Hakusho company.

And besides dubbing the episodes, they have to edit them -- which is quite a challenge on Toonami.

P.S. -- When I say "you" I'm referring to whoever in this thread said things that relate to my various retaliations.

Hey I don't think he meant it that way. I think he just wants to see the dark tournament conclude. As do many of us in the U.S., but I do wish Funimation wouldn't of rushed new episodes if they weren't finished with the whole story arc first. Although the time situation is not their fault whatsoever, for all we know CN ordered it, even though Funimation didn't want them too until they were done.

Why is it that every tv show fan seems to understand the concept of seasons except anime fans?

Showing reruns doesn't drive fans away. Do reruns get equal ratings of first run episodes? In most cases, no. What reruns do is build anticipation for shows and allow people to catch up. Many shows actually become more popular from being rerun then they do from new episodes being shown. Heck, Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon probably wouldn't have gotten new episodes if it wasn't for them being rerun over and over.

Really if you want new episodes go out and buy the DVDs. CN and Funi are handling the shows any different than any other network does.
