Street Fighter IIV ... only Toonami?

    Like This Thread!
Alright, Manga Entertainment has been sold... but nobody knows to whom.

FUNimation coulda got 'em. Bandai coulda got 'em. Tokyopop coulda got 'em. Sony could have. The thing is... we just don't know.

Look at their library, most of the stuff would be prime candidates for an Adult Swim movie timeslot, and would be a major coup for the channel.

But there's one, maybe two things that would be perfect for our favorite block.

Street Fighter IIV and Astro Boy.

Street Fighter's got 26 episodes and a related movie (Alpha, not directly connected [If you play the games, you'll understand]). It has aired on other Toonamis. This show, by it's very nature, MUST be full of action. I've been contemplating buying the DVD Box Set for a while (50 bucks at Best Buy!?!). I have the Alpha movie. This would bring a whole new style of show to the block (Serious action [Kenshin has funny moments], gaming, and just a generally new look). Also... you know you want to see the adventures of Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Sakura only Toonami. Alpha fits as a Lightspeed Movie, but I think ADV has the rights to Street Fighter II: The Movie and the DiC series. This series is prime for Toonami.

Astro Boy... no idea on the amount of episodes (26), but the new series is coming to KWB in the fall. CN could leech some of that fanbase by airing some old school Astro Boy either as a special one-time marathon or something. This is the less likely of the two, but it's still possible.

And now that I think about it (And to whet JC's appetite)... Giant Robo's on that list...

Beware, all of the above is pure speculation. ADV mighta picked 'em up. No idea. Just wishin' for Street Fighter IIV to end up on our Toonami.

Manga's been sold huh? Interesting, I have some of their DVD's. Guess they couldn't sell enough of those T-shirts to stay in business .

I've thought about picking up the Street Fighter series, but I don't know if I want to invest too much money in it unless its really great (I've read mixed reviews).

actually, KnuxFive got it right, its Street Fighter II V, the V at the end is the letter V, not the roman for 5. (and its pronounced "Street Fighter two vee")

anyway, SF II V would be good for Toonami, it'd be a massive hit seeing that SF as a huge following in the US.

btw, i doubt any of the existing anime companies bought Manga Ent...

Yeah, I also think that was the Japanese name to one of the games... but I'm not sure...

Love Capcom's naming scheme. We've gotten such titles as...

Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival
    Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
    Street Fighter Alpha 3 ^
Three: A New Generation of Street Fighter

Revival's the GBA incarnation... I doubt that taught was as insanely fast as your thinking. 10 Star Turbo on SNES is freakishly fast.

OK, so if Manga has been sold (about time), why haven't we heard anything about it until now?

As for Street Fighter II V, that could be a good show for Toonami if someone gets their hands on it. Sure I don't know what happens in it, but if it is as good as you guys just said it was....

I would also talk about the neglected stuff that deserves release to finalize stuff, but that wouldn't be right here and now.

I have a bad feeling A.D.V Films got Manga Entertainment. They are the biggest anime company, not to mention Manga snagged EoE and a couple other movies before they could.
Buut... If a different company picked them up, I'd really like to see Giant Robo on Toonami(somehow). There's no DVD release of it, anime VHS are hard to find as it is, and I didn't realize it was on Sputnik7 until it was too late.

I've thinking about buying the cox set for a while, but I'm not sure. I've also read a lot of mixed reviews... Plus I've heard that they radically changed Cammy, who happens to be my favorite Street Fighter.

Oh, and the V stands for Victory, if anyone cares.

The game you're thinking about is Street Fighter II Turbo Hyper Fighting.

Apparently, they haven't been sold completely yet, but they ARE being sold. ANN updated it.

I remember renting a few videos of Street Fighter II V (back a little before DVD started getting popular and when Blockbuster actually carried anime besides the theatrically released stuff) and I don't remember it being half bad. Maybe I was too immature in my tastes since it was when I was just getting into anime, but I remember quite liking it, thinking it would be a good fit for Toonami.

As for this buyout thing... well, it's news to me... just not surprising - in fact, somewhat welcomed. Manga's always been somewhat of an odd-ball with their releases. Some are respectful and well done, while others are awful. Just a hunch, but I'm guessing if someone did buy out Manga, it's ADV. They just seem like the type to do this, and most of Manga's inventory seems to suit ADV's image well enough.

the Manga dub for it wans't all that good either.

It would have a hard time on Toonami, it gets pretty violent into the series. some easilly editable nudity (Cammy's boobs in one major scene that can easilly be shortened and Ryu and Ken swimming in a pool nude in an early ep)

But some characters suffer from grandiose character alterations, especially Sagat:
    Spoiler:
in this show he is in jail and BEFRIENDS Ryu, OMGWTF!?
and all the characters are placed much younger thna they look, like Chun-li was like 15, uhhuh, yeah, sure, I'd beleive that.

    Remembering Ben Feld,
    AKA Shogunthethird.
