    Toonami Channel in the UK!

    Like This Thread!
Scraped off the news-encrusted back of Toonami Infolink:
Say goodbye to CNX, hello to Toonami!

From Sky Digi Online: CNX, the Turner channel dedicated to Anime and edgy films, is to be closed in September. The channel will be replaced by 'Toonami', which will be aimed at a young teen audience with cartoons such as X Men. Turner have defended their decision to drop CNX, stating that the adult market is "crowded and competitive".

Well there goes the neighborhood. But from what I heard about CNX, one hopes this "Toonami network" actually works for them. (and if it does, whether they could import it here)

Does this mean Gundam Wing Uncut will never see day in UK? (Unless it was airing uncut over there already or something.)

Well, a few months ago they were reportedly looking at bringing CNX to the US. If they do end up bringing it over I'd want it to be animation only, none of that animation/live action mix that CNX is right now.

Uh, wow. It's... actually... happening. We'll be over our self-imposed sticky limit, but considering this is the Toonami board and that's a Toonami NETWORK, I'd say this deserves to be stickified.

There is no official sticky limit; we could fill the entire board with stickies if we felt like it. However, we try to keep it to a max of three to keep the board from getting too cluttered.

Toonami by day, Adult Swim by night?

I'd pay to have that channel.

I seriously doubt they would bring it over here yet.

In the UK it's not their money that went into producing and acquiring so much of the programming you see in America on CN.

They paid a very very small fraction of the cost. So they can afford to do things like this. Cartoon Network CAN'T afford to split any of their core blocks right now, until they can recover from their ratings tumble.

We would probably have to, as it would a digital-only station. Given my choice of having Toonami and Adult Swim being a 24 hour a day network that only 15% would get or it being a 23 hour a week block (well, two blocks actually) that nearly all of us get, I's have to go with the latter.

If they were to do something like that I imagine they'd have to split Adult Swim back into two blocks, but on different channels. One on CN that becomes all comedy (both american and possibly some anime, which would be great for bringing more anime variety to U.S. television) and one for the action shows that would be moved to the Toonami channel. Of course, this brings up the possible problem of the two blocks having to face each other in the ratings war due to them only being shown at night during certain hours.

    Guess what? SCHEDULE TIME!

Old skoolers will love this by that I mean 90's, 80's, and way before that. Of course with this CN would have to make adjustments. They'd probably like all the extra space though.

Toonami could still air, but it would be only for 2 hours and would consist of these. Or maybe it wouldn't be called Toonami.

    5.0 - Justice League
5.5 - Dragonball Z (you honesty think it will leave? fat chance)
    6.0 - Cyborg 009 (the newest thing)
6.5 - Yu Yu Hakusho (could be something else but YYH)

Jackie Chan Adventures, Pokemon, Totally Spies, X-Men: Evolution could still air.

Adult Swim would mainly be humor but still have Inu-Yasha at 1:00am and a rotation of others series at 1:30am starting with The Big O, then moving on to Trigun and Cowboy Bebop. The rest of the monday-thursday schedule would be Futurama, Family Guy, Home Movies, Space Ghost C2C, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force (it has the most episodes) and Sundays would be the same as before.

CN could still air SVES I guess the new programs in the block will be the same episode as the SVES on the Toonami network.

Samurai Jack would stay exclusive to CN for the time being. It will be the networks only really action staple.

    ...

Yes you would, as that schedule is completely in your dreams.

Seriously, there's gonna be a bunch of filler and a bunch of reruns before AOL/Time Warner decides to branch out and get costly extra programming. It's probably cheaper to renew a few licenses like Gundam Wing and Sailor Moon than going out and getting Teenage Freakin' Ninja Turtles.

Expect the mornings to be filled with stuff like SWATKats, Captian Planet, Max Steel, Totally Spies, The Powerpuff Girls, Centaurions, Superfriends, etc. They're not gonna acquire programming knowing that not everyone can watch 24 hours of "new" programming.

With stuff like Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Bros., DiC might have gotten a good relationship with Turner dealing with Knights of the Zodiac, but they seem to really be focused with Nickelodeon.
