Why Did 'Starship Troopers' Get Punked Around So Much?

    Like This Thread!
Sci-Fi Channel punked it and when asked over at Toonami in days of yore when Toonami still talked to us they snorted and waved it off.

This show's one of the best ever written and produced. Definately one of the best action cartoons ever made, even beating out Reboot in scale and daring stories to tell.

So, why isn't this show picked up anywhere and held aloft in the timeslot it deserves?

Anyone know what the latest is with this show? What the production crew's doing now that they're not doing that broke ass Extreme Action Man aka Max Steel?

Last thing I saw that I think was them was the music video Polyamorous which has clips from the PS2 video game 'Run Like Hell'.

Good video, you should check it out.

But back to the subject at hand..... why does it seem an awesome ground breaking show like this got so snubbed?

And where were the toys for this show?

My guess is that the reason is simply because it bares the name, "Starship Troopers," which is an R-rated movie. And in this country, many parents would perceive this as an attempt to market an R-rated movie to kids, which is a no-no.

I remember Duke Nukem action figures taking a lot of flak for pretty much the same reason: they were accused of attempting to market an M-rated game to kids.

[indent]I think the troubles with Roughnecks getting airtime had something to do with the troubles at BKN. I'm not sure what those were though. Someone else might be able to elaborate.

    This site:

    http://www.trooperpx.com/RSTC/series.html

Seems to have quite a bit of information, including toys and such.

While some of the Roughnecks team did work on Max Steel initially, I don't think any of them are still with the show. As for where they are now, I don't have much of an answer except that Michael Reeves worked on the show and he is now doing some writing for He-Man.
[indent]Also, a quarter of the show was story edited by Greg Weisman! (No wonder it was good!) He has been fairly silent as of late about what he is working on, but he has been busy with something since he hasn't had a chance to update "Ask Greg" in awhile. The only think it is known he is working on is the Gargoyles DVD.
[indent]Finally, I must say I need to get more DVDs of this show. This must be the best DVD release of any series ever. It looks great, it sounds great and there is audio commentary from the writers and producers for every episode.

Like ohmrbill said, I think a lot has to do with the fact that it's based on a R-rated movie that's full of gore and, to a lesser extent, nudity. Personally, I think the show would have been better recieved as an animated version of the book, instead of trying to "cash in" on the movie. If it stuck by the story of the book, we would have the American answer to Mobile Suit Gundam, not just a really good action show.

[indent]Actually, it pretty much does follow the book. It isn't really related much at all to the movie.

[indent]During a chat way back in the day the Toonami folks were asked if they had looked into this series.

It did pretty much have to do with the R-rated film of the same name. It would've been a good addition to Toonami but oh well.

If I remember correctly here, The series was shown a couple years before the movie was ever developed...

I was happy when they made the movie like about 3 to 4 years ago but was disappointed with it because the movie didn't deal directly with the show at all...

The American answer to Mobile Suit Gundam. I still doubt that.

    Exactally.

This would be prime Toonami material I'd take ov- hhhmmm.... well maybe not completely over Reboot, but I'd prefer over a second helping of Reboot or Chump Steel.

Like Toonami did with Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z, the show would've gotten "The Treatment" and spotlight it deserved, going down in animated legend and even finishing out the series from the cliffhanger it ended on.

It got mentioned in the chat and the Toonami Rep barely gave it a second snort.

[indent]The movie came out in 1997. The series debuted in 1999. The series was mostly a straightforward adaptation of the book with some bits of the movie thrown in. The style however was nothing like the movie. Interestingly, the DVDs are rated PG.

It resembled the movie in the Rico, Dizzy, Florez love triangle and I believe both were directed by the same guy, Paul Verhoven.

At least I know Paul had some in put in to the series.

From the little bit of the book I read, the Roughnecks were old duckers, not young bucks like we see in the cartoon.

[indent]Paul was just an Executive Producer on the series.

From the very little I saw of that, it was good. Children characters dying and everything.

so they never ended it huh? a while back I went to a Gathering (a gargoyles convention) in Orlando, Greg Weisman had done some work on the show and on the second to last day had this big script reading of the final 3 episodes. but since there were talks of making a direct to video end to it, GW asked us not to give info.

all I rmember was thgat no main characters died , Rico killed thew queen deep undergound in Hawaii and he and Dizzy hooked up at the end. but since I never wathed the show, i had little to be overly excited about
