Heck more than half the people don't rember that the androids and they sure don't rember that Goku has saved their lives in the past.

Y'know, as dumb as it may look to you and me, let's not forget it's their DUTY to go out there and fight the good fight. We the audience take for granted the fact that Goku/Superman/Mothra/etc. is going to show up to save the day, but the military don't know that, and can't rely on that either.

Plus, if the military -did- stay back... after one of the aforementioned heroes comes in to clean things up, the taxpayers would naturally ask, "Where were YOU while all of this was happening?", and things would just go south from there. So, it's best to accept that those brave men are doing their jobs.

Yes it may be good to see the military step in after everything we have seen. But consider the circumstances:

-Nappa and Vegeta: nothing gets done
-Cell: nothing gets done
-Buu: nothing gets done

But hey, you can't blame them for trying.

Aberration summed it up very nicely. The military doesn't know about Goku, Vegeta, etc. but they try anyways. It's their duty after all to protect the small amount of people that are actually left on Earth.

It would be funny if the general did know and he was just doing that as an evil plot on his fellow soliders to have them run off and get killed as he moves down to the Caribbean with one Hell of a paycheck he collected that week.

If I do remember right, in the Cell saga there was a dog as the General of the Army and a private or something came up and asked him if he should send the order to deploy the troops to the Cell games or something like that. After hearing this the General told the guy, "No, that won't be neccesary, we would'nt be able to do anything. *looks at Gohan on the TV about to fight Cell* Why, that boy looks like Goku! If only Goku were here, he'd save us *flashback of Goku defeating Piccolo*". Yah, something along those lines, so we know at least ONE military figure knows who Goku is.
