    Stupid Transformers question

    Like This Thread!
I don't remember the original series all that well (I was young) and I was just wondering, was there any origin story? Like how the war started, and where the bots came from (did somebody build them?). Just wondering.
The world's 225 richest people now have a combined wealth of $1 trillion. That's equal to the combined annual income of the world's 2.5 billion poorest people.

    Something to think about.

Yes but versions of G1(TV And Comics) did explain things.

Alien slave drives called Quintisons made the Transformers as laborers on Cybertron which was originally a big planet sized factory if I remember right.

Eventually the Transformers rose up and kicked their masters off the planet.

Then the combat bots got together to create the Decepticons and rule over all, but the worker robots called the Autobots wouldn't stand for that.

Eventually to give the edge in combat, both sides modified themselves, giving them the ability to tranfrom.

That's about all I remember roughly.

Denner might come along and hook ya up with a more thorough answer.

    Actually, that's pretty much it.

We find out in the original pilot that there had been a war going on for millions of years, and the Decepticons, with Megatron, were in control. The Autobots cast about space in search of a new energy supply to win the war, when they were invaded by a Decepticon fleet during a meteor storm and crash landed on earth. After 4 million years they re-awoke to find Cybertron just as they left it. Megatron plotted to take Earth's energy and return to Cybertron, but the Autpobots stopped them and decided to protect earth since it was them who brought the Decepticons to the planet.

And that was really it, origin wise.... until the movie and season 3.

The movie set up The Matrix, and the backing of the Autobot leadership and the Quintessons. And then season 3 spent a HUGE chunck of time re-explaining the origin of the transformers and the history of Cybertron. The Quints came to Cybertron and built it into a factory, run by machines, to build 2 products: Military Hardware and Consumer Goods. As time went on, the robots slowly gained an intelligence of their own and fought back the Quintessons who escaped the planet. After millions of years at peace with one another, the Military Hardware rose up and started fighting the Consumer Goods, as being more powerful and the true dominant force of Cybertron. The Consumer Goods, now called Autobots, who were on the run, learned to transform themselves to hide from the Military Hardware, Decepticons, who too learned from the Autobots how to transform. And from then on, war ensued with the Decepticons gaining more and more control of Cybertron.

If you want, you can probably check out a few of the more historical episodes. Rhino released a tape, Vol.5: The Return to Cybertron, a few years ago that features 2 historical episodes. the first (season 2) shows the origin of Optimus Prime, and Megatron's first encounter with him. the second (season 3) shows a glimps into the past when, if I recall, a few Autobots are sent 14 million years into the past and must help the Consumer Good slaves defeat the Quintesson Sentinel robots. And, if you can find it, Five Faces of Darkness (movie follow-up miniseries), which has been out of production for about 10 years, should explain a LOT of the history in greater detail.
