    Samurai Pizza Cats on Toonami?

    Like This Thread!
Does anyone remember this anime from the early 1990's? It was animated by Tatsunoko and dubbed (and rewritten) by Saban in the US.
Could it air on Toonami? Is it possible Saban (or Disney) could sell the broadcast rights to CN? How hard would it be for CN to get this show?
It's been atleast 5 years since this series saw the light of day.

I would like to see the Samurai Pizza Cats on Toonami. I haven't seen it in a long time. BTW, you mentioned that it was "rewritten". Does that mean it was rewritten in the same was as how Sailor Moon was dubbed?

From what I understand from previous threads, when the dubebrs got the show, they got the videos but not the script. So they watched the videos and made up their OWN script based on what they thought was happening.

The result is one of the funniest dubs ever made and I would dearly love to see this show again.

Um...I don't know if it came to replace a bad show like the evil hamsters, Superfriends or Powerpuff Girls. I would say YES but if it come between Reboot, He-Man, a Gundam or other fine programing. I would have to say air it before Toonami. I am not againts the show by any means I like it enough to at least rent it or get in a box set however it's just not 100% Toonami.

Yeah, I remember Samurai Pizza Cats. Don't know if I'd want to see it on Toonami, but it would be interesting to see if CN could obtain the rights to it, or if it resurfaces on Disney.

Actually, when the dubbers originally aquired the show, they rewrote the scripts because too many of the jokes would just go over the general American audiences' heads at the time. This was dubbed back in 1991 when anime was generally unheard of by the casual viewer and most cartoons on TV were like Tiny Toons or Ducktales.
I heard that the original Japanese version was A LOT like Excel Saga in that it had many Japanese-affliated puns and humor. Imagine airing something like that on TV today. I have also heard that the English dub was MUCH funnier than the Japanese version was.
It was also much more successful in Europe and North America in it's heavily altered Americanized form than it was in Japan. In Japan, it is considered to be one of those long forgotten anime shows that no one would even remember.

Disney would never think of re-releasing the series and airing it on TV, as the main bad guy cross dresses in many episodes and there is some adult humor. There were a total of about 10 episodes of Saban's edited dub that never got shown on American TV, because of parental groups. One of the episodes not aired involves a lot of female-gender bashing.

Disney SHOULD sell the rights to someone like Cartoon Network, as they could show it in it's current form intact. However, I don't think CN would be comfortable airing the female-gender bashing episode on Toonami.

I love the SPC! Back when my computers hd had a lot of free memory I had nearly all the eps downloaded onto it! I sure wish it would re-appear on Toonami. It would make good filler. After say He-man or Transformers eps run out and they've been re-ran about three times throw in the Pizza Cats for a run to keep things somewhat fresh.

Trust us, Hamtaro it is not. It has humor, action, adventure, armor, giant robots, monsters of the week. And of course: more fur than a turtle ever had .

I dare say this was Saban's best dub of an anime, and I'm no lover of Saban dubs. I think the Pizza Cats would be a great way to start off the Toonami block. Too bad they would get rid of the opening if it ever came to pass.

If you're just going by the title you're missing out on a cool show.

A lot of anime shows have crap for titles but its what the series is about is what counts. Just go by titles or trailers and you'll miss tons of c00l stuff.

OOH! The giant gun in the tower of the pizza parlor that shot the cats to their missions was the coolest thing ever!

Re: Samurai Pizza Cats on Toonami?

I think Toonami has always been at its best when it has variety.

Since a stale Zoids Zero finally left, Toonami hasn't had a bonafide humorous show in its lineup (oh, shows like Dragonball, Hamtaro and G Gundam have their touches of humor, but it's not the main thrust of those shows like a Tenchi, for example). It should have an action comedy in there somewhere.

Its been far too long since Toonami unearthed a forgotten treasure like Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z, Ronin Warriors, etc. It should also have at least one older show in its lineup.

Samurai Pizza Cats fills both bills magnificently. Come 'on Toonami, give Bandai a call right now and let a new generation see this classic!

Y'know, I used to be part of the "cult" that revolved around this show, although I was one of the more moderate members. At times it would get a little crazy, other times it would get pretty interesting. But the funny thing is, I never really thought SPC actually had quite so much popularity. I never even knew that the script really was ignored/unacquired and I just found out from this forum that both versions were acquired by Bandai.

I thought I was one of a few people in the world (other than the members of the "cult") to have an interest in this goofy, yet, cute and funny show. I'm glad to hear a lot of other people want it back on the air. Until recently there was no way SPC could be placed in CN because it was formerly owned by Saban. Now that it has a new, good home, it has that opportunity.

Just as I was about to give up hope with this show, I suddenly have enough inspiration to want to help out in the constant struggle to see it on TV again. If you want to do the same there are several sites on the internet that can show you how (just use the search engines as it has been a long time since I have visited them so I don't know the links). You have my vote that I would like to see Samurai Pizza Cats on Toonami!
