    The Summer of Gundam

    Like This Thread!
According to sources it looks like Toonami has a big event planned for Summer 2003

[indent]Some of you have been hoping for the return of Gundam Wing (which CN does still have the rights to!) and it looks like it is going to happen, along with all the giant robot action you can stand. Toonami plans on airing every, yes every, Gundam series they have acquired during Summer 2003.
[indent]In other news the list for the next people's choice vote coming in December now includes not only Outlaw Star and CardCaptors, but also 08th MS Team. The list is likely not complete and is definitely not finalized.

[indent]So far Toonami has Gundam Wing, Mobile Suit Gundam, 08th MS Team, Gundam 0080, G Gundam and Gundam 0083 (which has been airing on Adult Swim). That would likely make for a 2 hour Gundam block next summer. Plus, if they truely mean every Gundam series that means Mobile Suit Gundam will be back on Toonami.
[indent]Finally, I just gotta say that I sure hope they add Reboot to the people's choice list.

That's a lot of Gundam. People who missed out on 0080 will certainly be happy.

2003, eh? That's a long way off, could it possible their plans may change between now and then?

What's gonna happen with that blood they edited back in for ASA? Is it gonna be edited out again?

    And wasn't 0080 supposed to be midnight-exclusive?

Well, maybe Toonami will be the home for Z Gundam after all...

"2003, eh? That's a long way off, could it possible their plans may change between now and then?"

[indent]Plans could definitely change. Sometimes with Cartoon Network you don't even know if the plans for the next week are set in stone.

"What's gonna happen with that blood they edited back in for ASA? Is it gonna be edited out again?"

[indent]Did any of the reedited episodes that were talked about ever actually air? If so, how many were there?

    "And wasn't 0080 supposed to be midnight-exclusive?"

[indent]If it does air in the afternoons it would have still been a midnight run exclusive for almost 2 years at least. Plus, this could be an event involving both the midnight run and the afternoon block.

[indent]Anyone have an idea for a tag line? Suit up...All summer long.

Don't get your hopes up. Bandai is working on Z Gundam now, so it'd be set for a Summer 2003 release. Yeah, about the time MSG would finish up its run (supposing nothing happens six days before its run ends again).

I hope they have TOM do a narration setting people strait about Gundam timelines when they do it. There is SO much confusion regarding UC/AU/AC among the more casual fans and I think airing them all at once would cause an overload in some peoples' brains. You’d think that people might catch on when they say the dates at the beginning, but I don't think they've even said the date in G Gundam, have they?

Oh, and what about Char's Counterattack? Will that be included as well? Also, could this Summer of Gundam thing extend to AS? Meaning the AS Gundams such as 0083 and CCA will remain on AS?

    What I'd like to see:

Summer of Gundam begin in July -

    The Universal Century Hour:
4 PM - Mobile Suit Gundam
    4:30 PM - OAV Gundam

    The Alternate Universe Hour:
    5 PM - Gundam Wing
    5:30 PM - G Gundam

    Some other show:
    6 PM - probably DB/Z
    6:30 PM - I dunno

Who knows if midnight run will still exist.

    Meanwhile over on ASA....

    - Mobile Suit Gundam ends in July
    - air Char's Counterattack on ASA
    - premiere Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam in August in MSG's place on ASA

Yatta! A Gundam takeover of Toonami could be a good thing, especially if it means I can finally see 0083! (I held off on it until I could get around to seeing the end of the One-Year War, which I have since done) Besides, now that we have more Gundam in our blood, maybe GW will finally start looking silly as opposed to stoic. (sure it was good when I first saw it, but that was before I saw the UC and now the FC stuff)

BTW: who knows where Zeta will end up, but I say right now it will probably be on the ASA block. But WS has surprised us before.

I doubt it at this point. It's obvious they're trying to boost up the Gundam series' popularity, probably for Zeta Gundam. It'd be a waste to re-air all this and then just premiere Z on ASA. I'm pretty sure Z will come to Toonami.

    *drooling, twitching, incomprehensible noises*

    Gundam...so much gundam...gaaaaaaah.

I assume this came from a verified source, and if it did, and cn doesn't change their plans all of a sudden, i'm gonna be glued to the tv next summer. Although alot of people hate gundam wing, it's great that it'll get another play. That seemed like it would happen anyway eventually.

MSG hitting the block again? Awesome. Let's keep it on for the whole run this time.

0083: Seen it twice now, and it's still not to the point where it's boring. Good to see it get some time on toonami.

0080: YES! Finally, I'll get to see this. I missed it last time, unfortunately, but it'll be fun to watch. I only wonder how they'll implement this, seeing as it only has, what, 6 episodes? Although, they managed to make a run of 08th MS team with only twice as many.

08th MS Team: Yay, good to see that again.

Zeta: I'd love to see this, but i doubt we'll see it on toonami for a while, if ever.

    CCA: Yay.

Overall, next summer is gonna be a rockin good time for gundam fans. Suit up, ALOT.

BOOOOOOOOO! This'll cheapen AS's rep if they show 0083 and MSG. I like it on Adult Swim. I WANT TO SEE ZETA GUNDAM ON ADULT SWIM!

Heh.. I kinda had an idea like this... "A Month of Mechas". But enough about that.

If something like this is gonna happen, I wouldn't be surprised to see a new Gundam series pop in by that time for Toonami(wishful thinking but oh well)

Don't forget that there are movies that could be put into this by then too.

Great news. Its certainly a good idea, especially considering their library of Gundam titles is getting so big now. Of course it'd end up taking up the whole summer since G-Gundam, MSG and Wing will take 2+ months to air. A summer of nothing but Gundam sounds good to me though

Um yeah, All this Gundam stuff sounds cool and all, but what about those of us who aren't Gundam fans? Out of all the Gundam series that have aired on CN so far, the only one that held my interest was 08th MS Team. Perhaps I will feel differently by the time this happens, but don't count on it.

I'm kind of split in between jumping for joy and shaking my head. Although I consider myself a Gundam fan and would enjoy something such as this, I wonder how this could be any better for the block than the DB/Z run Toonami earlier this year. While I do enjoy Gundam I would not like for Toonami to be run by only one show or collection of shows that are similiar. I would rather have Toonami keep a timeslot open to show all of the Gundam shows in the course of a year or so than have a summer with only Gundam.

    IMO.

Well, there was a point in time when toonami was all db/z. Besides, CN owes gundam big time for cancelling MSG with 4 episodes left. If you're not a gundam fan, don't watch. There's ASA and the db/z-packed midnight run. Besides, like people who didn't like hamtaro on toonami but didn't hate the show, "it's only for the summer".

Heres more info that Z-Gundam might the new series for 2003 for Toonami or ASA..

Bandai Entertainment AXNY News (06:54 PM EST): Andrew's posted some more tidbits to the forum from AXNY. Bandai has announced the acquisition of season one of Galaxy Angels as well as Geneshaft. It should come as little surprise that they also have Big O Season 2.

The big news for a number of people is that Mobile Suit Gundam Zeta is in production. And for Crest of the Stars fans, it's worth noting that the January release of Banner of the Stars will be done on three discs.

I just want it to be known that in some thread... I think... I came up with this idea first!

Big ol' Gundam event is JUST what the doctor ordered. Good thing too, by next summer I do believe all the DBZ that people could eat will have finally worn out and Toonami will have to move on to the next best thing.
