Not really. I think I saw the "movie" once on iNDemand.
But anything's better than Sailor Moon returning in a month.
I am sorry if this topic has been stated, but i didnt feel like wadding through millions of threads.....anyways.....
I have never seen but a few clips of this anime. From what i have seen it looks really good, and i know that it is on the long side as well, and i hear people say that this is one really good anime. If that is true than, it could be a good replacement when DBZ is gone.
What do you think? Do you think this anime has what it takes to be the next "big thing" on toonami?

"Swatting flies again?"
It fell into Saban's hands, then went AWOL when Saban realized it wasn't for three year olds. But they won't let it go.

a. I thought fox owned the rights, but anywho
did they sell the rights to disney when fox had their huge saban sell off??
I'm pretty sure someone from fox programming said that Disney still lets fox do it's own decisions in the buy-out.
Central Park Media and ADV Own Slayers, Not Saban.
FOX Got the rights to show it on TV... and thats all thats know..
Slayers DVDs
All of the TV Series is out on DVD
2 Movies Are out of DVD
The OVAs are Out on DVD.
ahem...just some backround info on this series.
1) it is 3 series long, encompasing 3 seasons of material and is 78 episodes long. all of them have been released here. CPM owns them all.
2) this show has had 4 movies made. the only character from the series in the movies from the show is the main one Lina along with a reoccuring character Naga. one of the movies has been released here. ADV has the rights to these.
3) this show has also had a total of 4 OAVs released with a 5th in the works. 3 of the OAVs have been released here. ADV also owns the rights to these.
all right now that the technicals have been worked out time to continue.
do i think this series would be a good replacement for DBZ? no. why? because i dont think that the DBZ fanatics would appreciate this show. some of them might find it cool and the humor in it is somewhat remenicent of DBZ but overall the show estentially revolves around a short in stature and small on the curves firey red head sorcerress and her quest for money and power. it has the adventuring aspect of a fantasy story with all the fixings. magic, monsters, demons and dragons along with mystical items and all sorts of really interesting developments.
problems with the show getting on the air...well for one a majority of the jokes are aimed at the size of Lina's breasts. also this show can get dark real fast. the second half of Next, the second series, is incredibly dark and Try is pretty dark through out, though Gillis is a great character for comic relief. could this show make the cut on CN...maybe...it would be better suited for AS or ASA then Toonami because of that slight mature humor and the darker nature of certain portions of the show.
again just my two cents.
thank you for this space.
Aren't you tired of all of this? I know I am.
Ah well, another Slayers thread can't hurt, and most are probably too old to bother reviving by now. If it weren't for FOX nabbing the TV rights to only then do nothing with the series, I think Slayers would have been a welcome addition. Dunno how the DBZ fans would feel about having their show replaced with it, but I know I'd be happy!Originally posted by Michael

What do you think? Do you think this anime has what it takes to be the next "big thing" on toonami? Not only is it a fun series, but there really isn't *that* much to be edited. No major fanservice to trim down, no real nudity other than a couple shots of people's backs, and very little blood (Save for the last few eps of each season. Even then, it shouldn't be too hard to remove.) Some redubbing will, of course, be required... but none of the language is really vital to the show, anyway. Plus, it certainly beats "Hamtaro" in the action department... heh.
Though it should be noted that the movies and OVA's are in a different vein than the TV series. They take place before the events in the show, and as Zero Angel noted, the only character shared between both is Lina.Originally posted by Makankosappo
Not really. I think I saw the "movie" once on iNDemand.True, but is there really *any* replacement that would please the DBZ fanatics in general? Didn't think so. That having been said, I still think Slayers would have been a worthy Toonami addition.Originally posted by Zero Angel
do i think this series would be a good replacement for DBZ? no. why? because i dont think that the DBZ fanatics would appreciate this show.I'll admit that there *are* quite a few jokes about Lina's lack of... assets, but I wouldn't go so far as to say they compose the majority of the jokes. Maybe I should try counting them all over the weekend... Besides, changing the word "breast" to "chest" would probably be enough to slip that content past any who'd complain. If not... dangit, it's still worth a try!problems with the show getting on the air...well for one a majority of the jokes are aimed at the size of Lina's breasts. also this show can get dark real fast. the second half of Next, the second series, is incredibly dark and Try is pretty dark through out, though Gillis is a great character for comic relief. could this show make the cut on CN...maybe...it would be better suited for AS or ASA then Toonami because of that slight mature humor and the darker nature of certain portions of the show.
I wouldn't say the show is ever *that* dark, either... but I guess it's subjective. At least even in the more serious moments they can't resist throwing in a few gags. (Can't speak for Try, not having seen it.) Slayers could probably get away with more on Adult Swim, but it's really not the same sort of "mature" as other shows on the ASA block... ok, so maybe it's better suited than Pilot Candidate, but that's an odd one out to begin with. ;-)

they dare not show the movie for one reason and one reason alone: naga the serpent.....her...assets are bigger than a pair of gundams!!!
Slayers Next and Try are too dark for airing. Next because of the last seven or so episodes, and Try for the entire second half. I'll explain more on that later, but right now, I gotta catch a bus.
Edit: okay, I'm back, and here's some actually detailed answers on why the last half of Next is too dark (and why some of the humor is too risque). I'll do Try later.

Martina's costume would be subjected to editing, they's probably paint in a few more areas to cover her better.
The entire episode in the villaige of the females would be cut, since it involves a LOT of genderbending (Damn, why can't I look as good in a dress as Xelloss? O.-;;;; )
And there ya go.

Yes, Fox jumped the gun and snatched up the rights to Slayers so that CN couldn't get it first (much like they did with Escaflowne). Anyways, as you know Fox ran it's kid's programming into the ground and now 4Kids is behind the soon-to-be FoxBox. Also, Fox sold the Fox Family Channel to Disney, who renamed it ABC Family, but they still have the rights to a ton of Fox shows (that's why they can air Spider-man and Power Rangers). Last I heard, Slayers was supposed to debut on ABC Family sometime this summer, but I doubt it will happen.
Just think about it: Slayers and The 700 Club, airing on the same network. Slayers. Televangelism. Together. Woo, won't that be a hoot?

It's lonely at the top - if that's where I am.
